you guys have a shitty bench and feel extremely insecure when some boomer benches twice as much as you so you make up excuses and say the bench is a shitty test of strength
its easy for you to brag about your strength if you base it entirely off a lift nobody outside of nerds on this board trains seriously
>the average gym-goer has never done barbell overhead press in his entire life
>strongmen, powerlifters, crossfitters, olympic lifters will train it as an accessory to their log press, clean and jerk, bench, push press, etc, but definitely not as a main movement
>most bodybuilders opt for dumbbells or a shoulder press machine and the few that do barbell OHP all do it sitting

wouldn’t your ohp be weak if your bench is weak, and vice versa? surely if you’re strong at one of them, you’d be decently strong on the other one too?
There is almost no cross over between the two lifts
2/3 main movers are the same and your OHP is usually 55-70% of your bench. There is a lot of crossover lmao.
Not really. The taller you are the harder the ohp is for you so you may bench a lot but it will never improve your vertical press. Also pecs take over the bigger portion of horizontal press while deltoids and triceps are more like secondary muscles. Ohp works the other way around.
Yes
No
The cross over drastically. It's like saying dips has no crossover for bench
if you do them both right yeah, OHP is easier to cheat though
If I had a nickel for every time I'd seen some homosexual bouncing on his OHP I'd have like a dollar
Seething zoomer
umm... our sister site r/fitness also trains it seriously!
It's just a good exercise to see gains especially for newbies. Shoulders is something people notice.
OHP is perfect for newbs because it exposes thoracic mobility issues. This thread is gay and so is OP.
I train push press as a main lift and only do DB bench btw
Wrong. You still need to be strong for a big ohp. IST likes the ohp because it hasn't been done to death like the bebnch press where you have many 19 year olds benching over 200kg
OHP is the funniest lift
simple as
I'm not weak at the bench, I'm extremely good at it.
I just hurt myself every time I go heavy anymore so I OHP instead -_-
>I just hurt myself every time I go heavy anymore so I OHP instead
yeah same here, OHP is a lot easier on my body
my back goes snap when I try to ohp
>you guys have a shitty bench and feel extremely insecure when some boomer benches twice as much as you so you make up excuses and say the bench is a shitty test of strength
moron. The vast majority of the time if you have a good bench you also have a good OHP. The ones that don't have them BOTH good or BOTH weak have bad form.
> olympic lifters.......but definitely not as a main movement
ahem.... Don't think you remember oly before 1972 when it was chad af and oly lifters had strong and upper bodies?
what are your ohp and bench?
