Fixing powerlifting

Replace squat and bench with a push press. Remove sumo. The total is now deadlift + push press.

Get rid of it. Put it in the trash.
Weightlifting already is powerlifting but good.

weightlifting is a lower body only sport. you don't need any upper body strength to do a jerk

Conventional deadlift + push press + strict curl
Boom, powerlifters are now aesthetic and functional

strict curl is interesting but i would rather do some row variation like a max pullup. i don't like isolatinos as a test of strength

Problem is weighted pullups include bodyweight, but I agree they would be a good movement to test overall pulling strength. From competition point of view (and that powerlifting is still about moving pieces of metal), a deadlift + push press + strict curl would be easiest to judge:
        >conventional: regular ruleset
        >push press: no double dipping / jerks allowed, anything else is fine. Or we scratch that and just consider weight moved, so jerks are also allowed
        >strict curl: ass and back against the wall, both need to touch it during the whole movement

problem with jerks is it turns it into a lower body lift predominantly. it's supposed to be an upper body event and the point of the push is to overload the triceps at the top because strict ohp is not very taxing

            Anonymous

Then I think the double dip ruleset is nice enough. I'm aware jerks can pretty much be all lower body if technique is good enough

is it possible to jerk without double dipping?

                Anonymous

Nah, what I meant with that is "no double dipping, i.e. no jerks allowed"
Basically judge it like the viking press at WSM 2017

          Anonymous

With that said, I think weighted pullup would also be a great placeholder for a biceps movement, if we design it such that
          >absolute weight pulled matters. I.e. 100kg man + 60 kg added = 160kg competition lift

            Anonymous

yes weighted pullup would also impose a limit on bloat maxxers, if you can't do a single pullup you're disqualified but i also like to keep it minimal similar to oly lifting with a deadlift and a press

              Anonymous

Sure, but deadlift and press leaves out biceps. The soijack in the OP looks like that because he not only neglects his triceps (prolly shit bench) but also completely skips biceps training

                Anonymous

you will always have some muscles neglected with a limited selection of events, for that strongman is superior. at least if you're unbalanced you will still look good because over head and deadlift will build up your silhuette regardless creating that big yoke look around your neck

                Anonymous

biceps can indirectly help your overhead press so it's not really left out. if you train to maximise the overhead you will find that big lats and biceps improve the rack position a ton

I've already fixed powerlifting in /plg/, and they all hate it while having no rebut.

    1. ALL supporting equipment is banned. Every lift must be raw. That means no elevated heels, no belt, no wraps, no straps, no sleeves, no suits, etc.
    2. Use whatever variant or extended arch you want. Literally lift the weight however the frick you want. You can literally fricking lowest of low bar shart if you want, you can sumo it. I don't fricking care. This obviously means squat compared to squat, and not a deadlift vs a clean and jerk, aspie.

    Determining winners:
    1. There are two winners for each sex, who share the gold. No weight classes, full stop.
    2. Whoever lifted the most total weight across three lifts for one rep wins absolute strength.
    3. Whoever lifted the most allometrically scaled weight for the three lifts wins relative strength

    Determining weight lifted:
    1. The weight lifted is the average work done along the straight line path of movement from lowest point to highest point
    2. These are found with sensitive video recordings that are analyzed either during meets or post meets, I don't fricking care

Was first disagreeing with you but then realized the last point makes the whole thing based. Yes, if you include the average work done then this will btfo sumogays, so I agree with you

Also post a total in excess of 1000 lbs with your rules.

Which universally applies to everyone. Unacceptable excuse—lower the weight or get injured winning. I don't care.

strength genetics include leverages, you shouldn't punish someone for their genetics, as long as they're not some scoliosis midget doing sumo.

Genetics influence all sports. You won't find 4'8" football players or basketball players. Michael Phelps has unique genetics that lets him win gold medals. Anyone who b***hes about genetics only does so because they lost before they could try.

OP, change push press into the press anyhow. Oldschool. Barbell starts on the ground, and in whichever way you prefer you have to bring it overhead and keep it there for a sec or two. This way we might see people go overhead with massive weights. Fricking awesome. (Injuries are your own problem).

we already have that it's called olympic lifting

        Anonymous

No, Olympic lifting is too restrictive. I mean, 0 rules as long as it goes overhead.

          Anonymous

it's not too restrictive everyone will naturally gravitate to the clean and jerk because it's the most efficient way to do it. strongmen can powerclean logs but a 30mm barbell with +200kg digging into your stomache will gut you it doesn't work like an axel bar or a log

            Anonymous

Push press it is then. I'm all for it. Like, I genuinely would care about powerlifting if your rules were implemented. Do consider the "press anyhow" though. Standing incline pressess are freaky.

              Anonymous

i assume the press anyhow means just means allow jerks. the event is supposed to be upper body, a jerk would turn it into a lower body movement, both powerlifters and weightlifters are pear shaped because their movements are lower body dominant this is what i want to fix
