It has improved my leg strength and balance. Now when both my hands are occupied (e.g. with food) and I need to turn on the bedroom light I can use my foot to hit the switch without having to put anything down.

No. Street fighting always catches you off guard and all your training goes out the window.

      This guy is moronic.

If you get hit with a sucker punch and you don’t get knocked out, your training is going to help you from that point forward. because there’s a possibility you might *** not have a chance to fight back doesn’t mean you should give up and not even try training. I’ve been sucker punched numerous times and never knocked out. I’m not a big guy either so it’s probably largely luck literally this guys stupidity is so dangerous he shouldn’t have the ability to even post and share his stupid thoughts.

You've never been in a real street fight then. Street fights rarely happen when you're fit and ready for a fight. They'll always happen when you're at you're lowest hence ''caught off gaurd''.
Yes, you are lucky that you've only being hit by gays because if you were sucker punched properly you'll be knocked out. Fighting is an attitude. Something martial arts training can't give people. I've the best of street fighters with no training frick up gays posing as ''trained''.

          >I've the best of street fighters with no training frick up gays posing as ''trained''.

Point of note is that Tank Abbotts primary skill is that of a street fighter, and in his prime he was formidable opponent, and would destroy your regular trained guy ten times over.

posing and actually being is very different

        >I’ve been sucker punched numerous times and never knocked out.

Be very weary when you say things like this. You likely got hit by people who haven't had much experience fighting, and even if you had no training, the outcome would be the same, them not doing much and you winning.

While not "officially" trained, plenty of guys that have had masses of fights in the streets know how to knock people out and where to focus their punches.

I grew up in the late 80 and 90s of Southern Californian, poverty, gangs and drugs. Bloods and Crips. I was in over 30 fights in my teens, and went from wailing my arms around to jaw hitting knockouts.

A street fighter is going to aim to knock you out fight hit, when you're not ready.

I do it for sport. Trains my moronic motoric capabilities and also cardio and some strength. If you regularly find yourself in situations where a street fight is likely, you should probably stop being a bottom of the barrel pleb.

yup, got door job and having training really helped but in "passive" ways. Like I was able to judge distance better and increased reaction time. Helped me avoid punching people by being able to close distance and tie them up and get them out the door with minimal effort/scene. Meant the incident would be barely noticed and the owner would stay happy

MMA and BJJ have helped me almost daily at my work. I work in an operating theatre and about 2/10 times patients wake up really confused and try to tear their tubes out or just generally thrash about so knowing how to safely restrain somebody in a way that doesn't hurt them at all has been hugely beneficial. I also do the thing with the light switch that the other anon does.

BJJ is the best martial art because you can break the mf completely or just make him submit to you. you are moronic.

    Yes/No.

Firstly, it is a last resort.

Basics work. Knowing how to throw a punch (boxing) is one of the most important things, a leg swipe can be useful, but most of all is ground work/wrestling. Any wrestler will make easy work of your karate or whatever king poo poo master on the ground.

But. You don't wanna be on the ground, or risk being kicked in the head and killed.

Fancy martial arts are mostly bullshit, training versus adrenaline of a real life street fight are totally different.

Even great martial artists who make movies make masses of mistakes/fall over before they get it right for the fight scene. So irl it's worthless.

Short, strong, bursts of simple manoeuvres are the most effective. As they put their hand up, shot to the open stomach, they lean forward, bounce their head on the wall and when it comes off and they are dazed, punch to the jaw and it's a knockout. 2-3 seconds and over.

Strength training, cardio, and drilling in simple things like that will out you way ahead of most people.

Some people will point to MMA fighters, look at these martial artists! But firstly they train in many styles, most of their knockouts come from a basic punch or kick, and finally, they do not represent the average guy. They are elite. You're not.

    In short:

    >doing a martial art will help you vs nothing
    >don't think you're gonna kick anyone's ass after
    >basic simple combos are the most effective
    >street fighting is different than in a controlled training environment
    >FIGHTING IS REAL FRICKING DUMB AND STUPID

Remember even the toughest guy in the world can be caught off guard, smash their head and be brain dead, and remember, you can also do that to someone, and will likely face years or life in prison.

like u're gonna remember anything about your "arts" when adrenaline hits u lol, sure, if u're accustomed to adrenaline shots and your life consists of training and not much else u're gonna use them techniques, otherwise the strongest mofo wins

MMA will always br a great sport to practice but if the first thought you have about training MMA is "yeah im ready for street fights" then you are fricking moronic or you should move out from where you live

Where did I say anything about street fights?

Taking away the physical conditioning that helps in life.

    1. I was at a club when a fight broke out, it helped me to stay calm and get out of the situation by escaping attacks while hanging out with my wife.

    2. I'm from Brazil, it's very common here to attack groups of 3+ favelados applying a rear nacked choke and taking everything you have, when it happened to me I had enough reflexes to get out of the choke and create distance keeping them in sight.

Self-defense is much more situational awareness than techniques, but it doesn't work without responsiveness.

      >I'm from Brazil, it's very common here to attack groups of 3+ favelados

Hahah yeah martial arts is pointless for you.

Read the area, avoid, and escape is the only thing that applies. But that should really apply to everyone.

Learning how to fall properly from grappling training has prevented me from getting hurt multiple times when it's slippery outside in the winter. More people die from slipping and falling in the U.S. than homicide, believe it or not

I wrestled in high school and college. One semester this guy challenged me to a fight because I was fricking his sister. I got a single leg and tree topped him so hard he cracked his head open against the ground and couldn't remember where he was or what had happened.

I do bjj, which I actually don't think would be a great art in a lot of self defense situations, but it helps because it gives you a sense of calm and lack of fear of physical contact
