I always assumed the lack of plus size clothing in thrift stores was due to high demand, but…

I just tried to exchange some of my plus size clothing at a popular thrift clothing store (for money or store credit). They didn’t take a single thing. I totally didn’t expect them to take EVERYTHING, but I know what they carry in my size, I know how hard it is to find something I actually like at this store. My taste isn’t crazy, this is the kind of stuff I would find at this store (actually, at least one of the shirts I originally bought from this store…). The store associate told me they’re just not taking that much right now.

So the lack of options isn’t because plus size people are getting to it before me. Or because plus size people aren’t donating as often. Apparently the store considers their current selection to be acceptable. And I don’t think they’re going through it that fast, I recognized a pretty dress I almost bought from there 2-3 months ago.

Most of the stores around me go straight from the kid’s section to adult clothing so there aren’t that many teen or youth specific places near me, but I’ll keep it in mind next time I go further afield than normal.

Don't be ashamed of that size, there has been massive size inflation recently. I'm 6'3'' and definitely not dyel (I weigh about 190 lbs at 14 % bf) and I actually have to buy clothing in size M nowadays when I buy from American companies. In the past, I always wore L, sometimes even XL, and this is still the case for European clothing. Hell, in Asian sizes, I need XXXL, lmao. They are inflating sizes in the US to appease fatties to the point where someone who belongs to the top 10 % of males in terms of height has to wear a size that should normally mean "average", simply because he's not a landwhale. A man that's actually average height and has a healthy bodyweight probably needs XS by now.

            Anonymous

I get it that its not so odd to see manufactured clothing catering to the average, but damn its annoying. Average man here is small shoulder width, small arms, manlet, skinnyfat. Finding good fitting clothing for me as a fit tall dude is near impossible. What shirts that fits my chest are too wide on belly and waist but also literally squeezing my shoulders and biceps so hard the stitches groan, while being annoyingly slightly shorter in lenght than what they should be. What pants that I can fit my upper legs perfectly are 2 3 sizes larger in waist, so large that it looks funny If I try to fit it with a belt.

Its a hassle buying online since I cant tell what Im gonna receive. Pretty tired of it all.

This. I'm a lanklet with a big frame so I generally wear L or XL but look turboDYEL in them because alienmode. Regularly wearing fat people clothing really impresses on you how fricked up their bodies are. My shoulders fit into fatty shirts fine, but the rest is a wizard robe.

It's fricked. I need a shirt to get longer and it turns into a tarp. I remember making fun of people who wore men's S, and then I'm 6'2" and usually wear a M, but a S isn't suffocating. Fatty discovers the reason she can't find fat clothes at thrift store is because thrift store isn't taking fat clothes.

She sees a dress hanging on a rack she almost bought 3 months ago. This is weird because know America is fat so how are far clothes not selling? Or maybe this is because first don't shop there because the selection is bad because they do not take a lot of fat clothes.

        I hope this helped anon.

Used to go to a thriftstore for cheap work clothes. Got to know the workers decently well and somehow the topic of what they take and don't take came up.
They didn't take 3xl and I think above size 44 pants, because so often they just reeked or had food stains or body fluid stains.
It wasn't worth their time to sift through it and make sure they were sellable.

I'm an xs/s and the clothes resale shop place usually only takes 2 or 3 of my pieces for every 10 I bring them. They're just like that. My best friend is tiny with amazing taste who actually owns her own vintage shop and has a fantastic eye for fashion. They generally only take 1 or 2 pieces more from her than they do me. We always walk away with most of our clothes.

This is not special for fat people. Obviously the demand isn't there for her size, and possibly demand isn't as high for s/xs either as it might be for medium. The issue is that they see what they think is oppression everywhere they look.

honestly depends on where you live

I live near the alps in southern Germany and a lot of people here genuinely like hiking slow 2-3h sunday afternoon tours as well as 8h+ summit climbs
the farther away I went from the mountains the less women liked the long tours

also in my experience, putting more than one sport in your bio like hiking, swimming, lifting etc, just has to be more than one, keeps away the fatties
and having most of my pics showing me doing some kind of sport (surfing, biking, kayaking) does the rest

Prob don't want to ask women to hike on a first date, it sets their murder radar off

        >don't want to ask women to hike on a first date, it sets their murder radar off
first date should be something short - <2h - anyway
also there are VERY popular hiking tours
especially short ones around cities where trams / trains are in proximity
never had a women decline when I suggested hiking

I've been fat most of my life. Lived in a trailer from when I was born until 16 when I finally had the courage to leave home. By then I was 230lbs and doctors categorized me as "morbidly obese" at 5'4. Just turned 38 this year and a lot has changed but not my weight. I've continued to gain a bit over the last 20 years and it's mostly due to stress and work commitments.

I'll never understand how a humans worth can be derived from an arbitrary number on a scale. From a young age I was fed fast food and we had limited access to fruit and vegetables. We've never had the luxury of money and the healthy lifestyle that comes from having access to it.

Most of you won't understand the struggle. You've likely had access to all these resources that you've taken for granted. I'll ask you this tho, do you feel better kicking others while they're down? Why not try to help them out? There's too many people in this world content on projecting their insecurities onto others. Try to be kind for once.

Fresh food literally costs less than fast food every single day.

      Anonymous

      ok, I'll take the bait.

I finally lost my excess weight when I left my parents' home at age 23 and had to be frugal with my spending, lol (well, technically, I didn't HAVE to, since I already had my own job and could've spent more money on food, but I preferred investing that extra money into stocks and ETFs or at least buy myself a nice piece of furniture every now and then). I can get enough potatoes to eat for a week for 5 bucks, and chances are eating nothing but those potatoes would already be a better diet than whatever the frick you're eating. Chicken breast and in-season veggies cost almost nothing as well if you don't buy the "muh organic food"-variety (for which there is zero reason, since they are chemically identical, t. my dad is a biochemist and always makes fun of people who buy organic food). Dairy and eggs are cheap as well. Fruit can be a bit more expensive, but you don't really need that for a decent diet anyway, it's more of a little treat.

      >But I don't have time to cook!

You can cook a chicken breast in a shorter amount of time than it takes you to drive to any fast food place to buy goyslop. Literally takes five minutes. Boiling potatoes takes half an hour, but you don't really need to be present while they boil, so you could just throw them into a pot of salt water, set your stove timer (if your stove doesn't have a timer, get a cheap time switch for your electrical outlet and set that instead) to half an hour and let it cook. Means half a minute of work. Most vegetables and fruit you can eat raw, and even if you boil/fry that stuff, it's extremely fast.

Sure, *fancy* cooking takes time. But simply preparing food to eat enough to stay healthy is extremely fast and easy.

Neither time nor money is an argument against eating healthy.

Talking to a coworker and she said she eats healthy. Which includes
    >no red meat
    >lots of bread
    >salads
    >diet soda
while she does eat a salad for lunch at work it's 50% dressing. And I'm sure that's just her way of trying to convince the office it's how she eats. Meanwhile my lunch is usually beef/broccoli/tomatoes and potatoes

Sometimes. I’m not American but when I was working in grocery stores years ago the really fat people I saw were like 50% poor people, 30% rich people, and then 20% people who could have gone either way but weren’t instantly identifiable by their clothing or personalities. The poors I can only assume were getting gubberment bux for whatever reason, and the rich ones were obviously just gluttons with low impulse control.

Fat women ALWYAYS eat salads at work, it's magic how they never seem to lose weight anyways, but don't bring any deserts to share in the office, or the same magic that keeps them plus size and curvy will also make the food vanish if she gets close to it.

The salad of a fatty is a different thing from a healthy person’s salad. Lots more shredded cheese, lots more croutons, lots more bacon bits and other non-veggie toppings. Tons of salad dressing, and it’s a good chance it will be ranch or “creamy”

To be fair in a lot of places most >p that try to lose the weight either don't, give up, or manage to regain the weight after a few years and reverting back to their old habits. They've either fallen for a meme diet or they didn't make significant changes to their lifestyles and thought that by eating "The magic foods" that they'd be healthy. Most of these >p don't realize that in order to lose the weight AND keep it off, that they have to make radical changes to their lifestyle and keep those changes too. every one either thinks that they'll just magically lose the weight after they've started their "diet" or that once the weights off, that it'll never come back. It's always the short term, quick changes that they make and never the long term, harder ones that they try. They also, I've noticed, usually only tried for a single week and gave up immediately to have fast food.

This. You can’t exercise only to lose weight and then stop once you’re at your goal weight, otherwise you’ll slowly gain weight back. Exercising has to simply become a permanent part of your lifestyle forever.

This happened to a fat coworker of mine. From the one moment to the other her intestines couldn't be contained by her weak abs anymore and they escaped into her navel. And to make matters even more unbelievable she beats a 30 year record. So in 30 years no man or woman of normal weight could beat the previous record holder but this fatty who is also beautiful and brave could. The face closeups as she pretended to be physically active, the over the top record breaking and at one point CGI just made it more delusional.

My brain just did a back flip because of you.
I was going to write a post about how I was nervous for a date I have this week. He’s a thin guy and seems really great, we met online and he’s seen the pictures I have on my profile that include full-body ones. I’m just so nervous that he’ll see me and change his mind. Obviously then he wouldn’t be the right one, but it’s still scary to think about.

But then I went to this sub and saw all of the beautiful women here showing their curves, their cute outfits, their wins, talents, etc. it reminded me that I would never want a guy who could look at us and think anything but, “Wow, that’s a beautiful person.”

So, thank you for that reminder.

I feel like there is no safe space to talk about the impact of life long discrimination due to being fat

I see a lot of posts on here talking about it; but idk why it still doesn’t feel safe to me and why I’ve held back talking about it for so long. I feel like I am about to burst because I cannot hold onto the feelings of coping with lifelong fat discrimination anymore. The reality of living in this world while fat is so hard to carry and it bleeds into every area of my life.

And I am SO TIRED of people rushing in to say “talk about it to a therapist!!!” Or “see a dietitian” or “this is what I did and it worked for me!”. That’s not what I fricking need. I need a lot of space to talk about how fricking hard it was to live through a childhood where I was explicitly and repeatedly told that the worst thing I could ever be was fat, and that I was introduced to some truly awful food and exercise associations from my earliest memories. There is no place for my trauma to be validated. Oh and speaking of therapists who specialize in this kind of thing? $150/hr. What makes matters even worse is that I am a therapist so I feel like a fraud for having such complex food and body and exercise issues.

I have disordered eating that has lasted my whole life that I desperately need help with. It is so compulsive and so connected to my childhood trauma but I’ve never felt safe enough anywhere to work on it, or felt like I could carry the weight of how painful all of this is. But these thoughts about my relationship to food and my body and exercise are demanding to be dealt with. I feel so trapped with my relationship to food and exercise because it’s dripping in trauma that I don’t have the tools to heal from on my own. I know the reality that if I stay fat like this my life is only going to get harder. I constantly fantasize about how much better I would get treated and how many more opportunities I would get offered if I was thin. To live with this reality for 30 years is soul crushing and it fuels my disordered eating because I don’t know where to go to process it. Yes, just because I know all that I know about therapy being a therapist and that I should be able to apply it to myself doesn’t mean I’m actually capable of it. This shit is so intense in our culture I just don’t know how to make peace with it.

I have tried working with a dietitian before and it did help some, but these problems are so deeply psychology I don’t think a dietitian is equipped to help heal my food/body/exercise related trauma. But everyday I deal more and more with the reality that my desire to have a healthy relationship with partner who I am attracted to, is worth the effort of a relationship, someone I’m absolutely not settling for, and someone that I could have kids with, is not going to happen easily for me because of the weight I am at now. Believe it or not, I have the most self-esteem I’ve ever had in my life, which is why I’ve been single and celibate for 5 years because I refuse to settle and know my worth now. But I know my place in society, and first impressions/appearance is paramount and being fat is an automatic shot in the foot.

This is a societal and cultural issue as well as a personal one. We cannot just “be confident” through systemic oppression based on how we look like. Losing weight is often a temporary solution and is not easily attainable for many. So often we observe and internalize a gross amount of fatphobia, and it just leaves me feeling so helpless. I can love myself and my body only so much, this does not change the way society treats me. I am so so sick of repeatedly hearing that it will and that this confidence will ultimately find a partner. Yes, the people I date now are hugely better than what I used to surround myself with and I get a great deal of respect, but ultimately, my options are still limited.

Too long for a bait post. Get it down to 1 post, eliminate some of the therapist and trauma talk and stick with more the systematic talk and I think it’ll be decent. Also remove Reddit spacing and maybe include some body positivity picture. That would be solid bait.

People forget just how bad alcohol is for you, it impairs the liver and you impair the processing of all major metabolites, protein, fats, everything.
And thats ignoring just how calorific alcohol is without it providning any nutrition whatsoever and ignoring all the carbs etc in beer etc.

Your liver processes alcohol in a way that both detoxifies it and allows it to enter the krebs cycle iirc.
You gain chemical energy from it as a result, although it severely fricks with fat metabolism as a result.

I hate how much you're expected to constantly drink beer, wine and even hard alcohol in western culture. My colleagues and friends all think I'm a recovering alcoholic because I refuse to drink this shit at social occasions. I only get a headache and become very tired from it, it tastes exactly as healthy as it is in reality, so why on earth would you expect me to drink that literal poison? I get absolutely nothing out of it. I also hate the feeling of losing control that it gives you. It's actually bothering me a lot, because I can never participate in any social gathering without being "the weird (probably ex-alcoholic) guy who doesn't want to drink booze with us". Mudslimes are unironically
        right about this stuff.

Dont avoid the events, stay social, just assert that you dont want to drink and then dont bring it up again.
Drink things that look alcohlic but arent perhaps?
There are some good non-alcoholic beers etc just to say.
Idk if you are in the UK but I like Erdinger Alkoholfrei 0.5%, pic related.
There are also alcohol free ciders etc which are more fruity, alcohol free pear cider is fantastic.

Bro, what’s the point of drinking non-alcoholic beer. All the calories with none of the buzz. moronic tier idea. Just drink water or tea. I keep seeing more brands release non-alcoholic beer and it being stocked at my grocery store. Just don’t drink beer unless you want a buzz. It makes as much sense as sugar free candy.

NTA but I’m 27 and will admit that most alcoholic taste like shit. The only class of alcohol that is tastier than the nonalcoholic version is ciders. And wines get a pass because they enhance the flavor of food. But everything else is only improved the more the alcohol is hidden away.

On analysing this footage, there are two key points of failure.

      1) Weak tibialis muscles, which is why she keeps tripping over her toes.

      2) Weak hip flexor muscles, which is why she cant lift her legs up enough to get into a proper run

Both of these muscles become weak through sedentary lifestyles.

      2) Weak hip flexor muscles, which is why she cant lift her legs up enough to get into a proper run

Both of these muscles become weak through sedentary lifestyles.

      Heed this warning.

But also, i'm like 99% sure that's an old grandmother, not the mom.

Just found out about a show called "fat families". Aired shortly on UK TV before getting cancelled after a family sued. I can't find anywhere to watch full episodes, but there's a few highlights out there. If anyone knows of where to watch the full thing, please share.

Every average gym goer I've met has always been really level headed and mellow, yet every fat frick has always been angry and screams at everything and wont keep their nose out of everyone else's business. Why is it like this?

Fatties are usually emotional creatures, their relationship with food is emotional and not logic and health based. They are also insecure about their bodies, and insecure people are usually the loudest in the room to fake confidence to others.
