It is theoretically good since it should just be lean chicken meat and bread with a little bit of fats.
But in practice, it's low quality chickean meat with lots of cartilage and a bunch of seed oils for frying.
So they're good if you make them yourself (and use an air fryer).

You can have it once a week if you cook it yourself and use good cooking oil like avacado oil (make sure you're getting the real thing and not something adulterated with safflour oil) or ghee.

over the years I've come to accept that fried chicken is one of those things I'd rather just eat out instead of prepare myself

It's fine every now and then, but it shouldn't be eaten regularly. I get it from the supermarket deli maybe once a month. No sides (except cole slaw once in a blue moon). Also, I remove most of the breading from the larger pieces like the breast before eating.
