Why wouldn't I just do lunges instead?
Because bulgarians isolate the lead leg entirely
Doesn't mean lunges are pointless but bulgarians are better for bodybuilding purposes.
The problem with normal lunges is the momentum from traveling forward. It's easy and common to cheat with that. Reverse lunges on the other hand are equivalent to BSS mechanically.
because its a overrated piece of fricking glute builder you dyel homosexual
>Because bulgarians isolate the lead leg entirely
untrue. The supporting leg does work to.
Muscle is kept under tension during basically the entire BSS set rather than alternating legs. Unless you mean stationary lunges such as in the smith machine. Those are fricking brutal as well
>stationary lunges
Those are called reverse lunges.
I mostly skip legs if I'm being honest.
>le skip legs gymbro
WOAH DUDE THAT'S HELLA FREAKIN EPIC BE SURE TO CHUG A SHAKE AFTER YOU WORK OUT BRO DONT WANNA MISS THE ANABOLIC WINDOW
I mostly miss the anabolic window if I'm being honest.
Only redditors care about legs
I browse reddit and I care about legs.
Same. I do legs once every other week if I'm lucky and basically it's some half assed sets on a couple machines
Yeah, I just don't care that much. Upper body workouts look better and feel better. I do just enough legs to remain relatively proportional.
I train legs at least once a week. I don't do 2x a week frequency for it cause frick that, but I never train calves
FRICK calves. It's the most boring muscle to train. I do incline treadmill walks, if that does the trick for calves fine, otherwise I don't give a fuvk
I probably average 1.5 times a month. I should probably bump it up a little, but as I said above I find it really hard to care.
Takes 10 minutes to train calves. Just put your hands against the wall and do calf raises to failure one leg at a time.
Based. I actually skip any exercise that indirectly trains the abs because it affects my stummy and I can't sleep.
fricking newbies. SS + GOMAD since forever and I'm doing 5x160kg squatteroos
I've been working out since 2009 or so, I just don't care about legs because I'm a man, not a woman. I don't even freeweight squat anymore and I haven't in years.
Hacksquat and maybe legpress if I'm in the mood.
stop being a pussy and train your legs properly
Nah. I'm good.
Once a month is plenty for legs. Frick leg day.
If you skip legs you're dyel. Simple as
Ok, you have no idea how little I care about your opinion. Back in the day we all skipped leg day then the gay ass "never skip leg day meme" started and now here we are.
What I do keeps me proportional and biomechanically aligned. I don't give a frick about having a big lower body. Johnny Bravo looks GOATed.
Lmao. X is superior to V kiddo. Keep overexplaining why you have no discipline or work ethic though
Women love broad shoulder and huge uppper bodies.
only fat powersharters care about legs
X is an hourglass for women. V is for men. You can look however you want dude, I know gen z is all gender fluid or whatever but I prefer to look like a man.
>I prefer to look like a man
you think you look like a man? KEK get a load of this homosexual. here's what a real man that does legs looks like
Flat ass looks like shit on both genders.
At least get to 24 inch legs then maintain
Like I said I look proportional, I've been lifting over a decade, I just don't care to bulk my lower body. I do enough to stay healthy, which is like 1-2 times a month.
You could cut his leg size in half and he'd look just as good. If you cut his upper body in half he'd look like shit. Crazy how that works.
>You could cut his leg size in half and he'd look just as good.
No
>You could cut his leg size in half and he'd look just as good.
No
I do a lower upper split and while I'm mostly proportional, I have tooth pick arms and mediocre shoulders bc of it. I'm bulking up, but I'm thinking next year when I cut and go back to martial arts, I'll switch to 1x a week for legs only, with 2x upper body. That 66/33 split is probably better for aesthetics, I'm inclined to agree. did you learn it the hard way by getting a wonky physique or do you just not care anymore and maintian?
I hit a point where I was like "huh good enough" plus frick leg day boys honestly. Guys weren't as obsessed with it when I was starting out either so that helped. No one cared about their squat PR it was all about the bench. We were too far one way, but now it's going too far in favour of lower body IMO.
It was also probably a bit of conditioning. I had frequent upper body compliments but few people seemed to care about lower. Why half die squatting when you can do curls for the gurls.
Do enough to stay healthy and proportional once you get to a size you're happy with was my general outlook.
Big legs are a bad thing if you're a martial artist anyways
Big ass is useful but the rest is just dead weight
we know its heavy and feels tiring but just do it homosexual
>Can't handle progressing with literally any knee flexion and hip hinge of choice twice a week
>Neglects half of his body
>Lower body requires more mental fortitude so I just stick to upper
Ngmi
I keep feeling it in my hamstrings
You may be going out to far on your working leg / Leaning too far forward / could be both.
If you step far enough with a good balance stance and sit straight up at all times it should work. This shit defeats me. But it can be great for that posterior chain on the opposite leg as well.
For me it’s the only exercise where I actually get DOMS in my glutes. Absolutely obliterates the hamstrings too though
i dont want fkin shredded legs
Are you some kind of masochist?
I shouldn't be surprised at the sheer amount of absolute b***hes in this thread
god i fricking love bulgarian split squats
i get to do them tomorrow
any tips to make them stop fricking up my lower back, though?
Use a belt squat machine. Imagine putting all the weight on your shoulders and spine when the belt squat machine exists in this day and age.
I do split squats 3 times a week
My lower back is usually sore when I do BSS?
are you forgetting to engage your core?
If you place a heavy weight on your back the spinae erectors are going to have to work regardless of how good your bracing is
Not as much as back squats or front squats. That being said, I still do them 3x a week just like my squats
>can barely do them with the left leg
>right leg so unstable can't even do one without losing balance
what the actual frick
Yes op. I’m already starting to see that muscle blowing up past his knee on my own knee. They are easier than actual squats in my opinion.
That & squat & front squats & that and step ups above the knee to close. DO NOT FORGET THE HAMMIES
Leg day is... why you're here.
Please redpill me on barbell vs dumbell Bulgarians. Any differences?
Kettlebell Bulgarian Split squats are better than either of the other ones as far as safely off-loading a heavy load for a squat exercise.
I find barbell give me the most complete workout of my leg muscles
>Treating leg day like a joke
Never forgive
I do them with Dumbbell
I've seen a guy drop a barbell on the back of his leg and fricked his knee up bad
