Handshakes are always awkward with women.
Sometimes they do that kiss on the cheek salutation but like just kissing the air.
It's confusing af.
My current handshake metric -
For men i always go for the strong handshake ie 50 percent of crushing grip - full contact. if they don't return it i go for full crushing grip, you can instantly tell.
for women i just hold their hand like i'm holding a smartphone with no palm contact only fingertips - i have been informed that it seems very "confident".
for gays outside gym - i do the limp wristed thing and always get limp wristed in return, gaydar has never failed me.
for gays in gym - full crushing grip - try to crush their knuckles together, no mercy. usually am matched, never had any complaints.
i can currently do a 100kg max on those machines that ppl use to measure grip strength.
oh yeah also i've switched to bear hugs for ppl i consider friends/family, no force only enough to be comfy.

How many pumps and pump speed in each case? I usually only shake when it’s with men and get a grip - then one main pump with force - let it bounce back for another pump without force - then brief grip hold or slow disengage. Is that normal?
if it's a business context just the one pump and disengage. only intimidation requires another pump.
if it's a social context ie trying to get a girls number i try and hold on as long as the girl doesn't pull away - remember light grip no pressure.
Slow disengage is only when the other person refuses to let go after you loosen the pressure - ratchet the pressure back up to their level and keep pumping as long as they're pumping.
They used to be normal and there really wasn't any overthinking anything. Then covid happened and that started the moronation now associated with handshakes. If you didn't like handshakes before covid you probably stopped doing them, if you liked handshakes before covid you probably now engage in them too long and/or put too much emphasis on grip which makes them really awkward.
I was a bricklayer the last 12 years my handshake is tight and sandpapery. My hands are rock hard callous.

No. Lifting mostly gives you a strong positive grip aka you can squeeze hard. It doesn't do much for the negative aka resisting getting squeezed. When you shake a contractors hand it's like stone.
You can't get that lifting weights. Buy a sawzall and buy/find some scrap wood. Spend an hour a few times a week cutting off thin slices from the wood. Or better yet become a weekend DIYer like me. My shake is in the middle
black guys do the dap up effortlessly for some reason. when a black guy daps me up its never as smooth as when they dap up each other. i have to look at my hand to make it connect smoothly whereas they have a sixth sense for it and can do it even if theyre looking the other direction. its odd
