He shouldn't be blamed for being a regular kid and getting used as a prop by some rat-like journalist with an agenda. The weightlifting seems like a genuine accomplishment. Good for him.

Well obviously there wasn't much going on in the local neighbourhood that week, but nothing in the article is wrong.

Most journalism deception now is more about what they choose to talk about. It's called "selective reporting". The articles themselves are mostly true. But they very carefully choose what articles to publish. E.g. they'll post lots of articles about when a white cop kills a black guy, but zero articles about the thousands of times that black guys kill white people. The "cop kills black guy" article's material is mostly true, but the newspaper is still lying.

In this case the article's message is "look at how black people are smart, just like us", which is obviously agenda driven. They don't write articles about the hundreds of white and Asian kids who assemble computers

Yeah it's a Black community newspaper, I'm sure the Greek news puts grandpa's lamb spit on the front cover when he knocks it out the park too.

Meh, proves my point that propaganda = selective reporting. The meme image leaves out that it's a black newspaper. I fell for the selective including of some information vs others, much like a middle American soccer mom falls for the New York Times selective reporting. The difference is that I'm racist so tend to believe racist propaganda whereas New York Times readers are liberal therefore believe liberal propaganda. Also why do you capitalize black? Honest question

Because they're an ethos or race like English or White people. Be less neurotic and more fun, nothing in the article is wrong and it would have been perfectly in place in a family whatsapp chat, mothers facebook post, or school newsletter. If a journalist wanted to write a silly piece lauding him and put it on the front page of their paper then laugh along with the kid at the dopey journo who found it so newsworthy.

the original article claimed he "invented" a new computer in the headline, which is why it became a meme

Good luck to the kid. He kept up with it and is now studying compsci, and also managed to become an elite obese powershitter.

nta interesting, thanks for the source.

This "Glenn Munro" dude is apparently some freelance hack, writes lots of stuff for brown/black people. They're obviously desperate for stories of black people doing notable things.

Obviously the laughter was never at the kid, it was the journalist, the media, the gullible masses and his parents who obviously helped orchestrate it.

It's a normal human interest story, most local papers will run similar stories when some local kid does something good, even if it's a bit stupid. What makes it funny is the boomer bewilderment at the tech-savvy kid, and that they though it was front page newsworthy. Maybe that's a comment on low self-standards for London Blacks, maybe they're just boomers, maybe it was a very slow news week. In any case we get a funny story out of it that expresses the same self-satisfaction we felt when building our own computers, and the same praise our tech-ignorant parents and peers conveyed to us at our petite achievement.
