This is my biggest argument against socialized healthcare. In a county like the US, can you imagine the monetary impact of socialized healthcare? We'd be paying 80% in taxes to keep these "people" alive.

Yeah kind of moronic. I'm fine paying extra to cover people with type 1 diabetes or other genetic conditions and shit they couldn't help but people who did it to themselves just by being fat? frick all that

the health insurance industry is leeching more money out of you than whatever it takes to treat fatties you dumbasses

socalized healthcare would gut the health insurance industry and force all of that labor pool to actually get jobs that contribute to society

more poor people would get regular healthcare - so they can get more preventative care - which in turn reduces stress on the healthcare system because it's a lot cheaper for a doctor to sit with a fatty for 5 minutes and tell them to lose some weight than it is to perform tripple bypass surgery

its time you chuds grow the frick up and get more than a 1 dimensional political take on everything

None of this is true. In fact ae should abolish the irs, audit the federal reserve, abolish medicare/medicaid, abolish social security, and abolish public education. Then we can abolish the fda, trust bust the insurance companies and pbrs and allow the sale of cheap generics that the fda doesn't approve of because drug companies bribe them to. We need the government the frick away from everything. Their laws created the trusts and monopolies.

that's a fantasy world you're living in, it baffles me why conservatards likes yourself think that somehow only the government can create trusts and monopolies - are you incapable of realizing that centralized power of any kind is the real problem? If you abolish the government then powerful corporations will just entirely take over and do all the things you just complained about

            >meanwhile in the real world
            farmers grow crops, people benefit
nurses treat patients and provide healthcare, people benefit
employee at the gym keeps the gym operational/clean, people benefit

health insurance employee exists, no one benefits, they are actually a negative on society

there's no political bullshit to this point, health insurance industry is unequivocally useless and a negative to society and the individual. regardless of political beliefs you should want to see it abolished

            >dreamworld
            >health insurance industry is abolished
            >all of that labor pool becomes health care workers (not immediately, requires education duh)
            >already best healthcare system in the world gets even better
            >all your doctors, nurses, etc. have a lot more co-workers, are no longer overworked, you're not rushed in and out of your doctor's appt
            >reception/administration staff at hospitals/clinics are no longer wasting their time helping patients with the minefield that is navigating health insurance

BUT WE WON"T GET IT BECAUSE ANON IS SUCH BIG FAN OF RUGGED INDIVIDUALISM, WHAT A BIG MAN YOU ARE

That and you can fix healthcare costs by allowing an unlimited number of doctors to get certified, currently they only allow 110,000 certifications per year, and they also make foreign doctors get certified too.

Medicare and Medicaid cost more than the US military. Just think, it costs more to keep only the elderly population alive than it does to establish dominance, and express a sphere of influence across the entire globe.

That said privatized insurance is shit too

But this added healthcare cost would motivate the government to pass laws that protect health (regulating food, etc.)

The US government already spends more per capita on healthcare than any other country, socialized healthcare or not, and it's not close.

    Healthcare is one thing
Why aren't there public, free gyms subsidized by the government to improve national health outcomes?

      Anonymous

As if money is what’s stopping people from going to a gym. even if they were free they wouldn’t use them. Hell a bunch of them have memberships and just don’t go. It’s not as if you even need a gym to lose weight and be healthy either.

        Anonymous

I'm sure lots of people still wouldn't go.
But I think some people would. Several big chains of gyms have succeeded by offering very cheap memberships and 24-hour availability.
Also, look at Muscle Beach. It started a nationwide fitness boom simply by being a free, public place where you could exercise and a culture built up around it. It's about normalizing fitness, and creating a path of least resistance to participating.
Besides, the gov does plenty of things that don't work/make sense. I'm just asking why they haven't done this yet.

Since when has the American government given a damn about the health of its people?

Yeah but how many of those people would have lifted anyway? Those places just draw in already fit people looking to lose money, not fatties trying to lose weight.

PF is what draws in fatties but they go once a month, forget about their membership and stop going while still paying. Unironically how PF makes most of their money

Same thing can be said for public transport, but what happens when suddenly everyone is allowed to make use of a service? Crowding.

If we all acknowledge we need better standards of having bigger houses, so we have one room that we can fit gym equipment in, then we dont need free.gyms and we

That's how healthcare used to be in the US: they were called fraternal benefit societies or mutual benefit societies, and you chose to apply be a member and the society chose who was allowed in. It was fundamentally exclusive. They were commonly organized by various ethnicities. There were many benefits besides health insurance, e.g. networking, socialization, community organization.

The way most of these organizations worked was the members would pool their money and hire a doctor on a yearly basis to treat the members whenever necessary. If further medical treatment was necessary, the members would all chip in extra to cover the member in need.

The government and a cabal of doctors in America didn't like that people were getting healthcare for so cheap and regulated these societies out of existence.

This video is a good primer on the subject which lists its sources as well.

If we had socialized healthcare, there'd be more reason to tax the fatties even more than we do now. They're usually the wealthier ones, whether that be actual or welfare. BMI and other health markers could be used to discriminate against people and make exceptions to coverage.

  9. 6 months ago
    Anonymous

Correct. Just like how smokers pay higher premiums, anyone with a BMI over 25, or under 19 should pay a higher premium as well.
