Would you consider someone who can bench 225 for one rep has earned the right to say “I bench 2 plates” or do you need to achieve a certain amount of reps?

Well for me I don’t say I run a 6 minute mile pace, just because I can run a single mile in that speed. Same with bench I don’t say I can bench 2 pl8s until I can do sets of at least 6. Just personal outlook.

        >at least 6
Actually the cutoff point is 16.25 reps, so hit the gym dyel

          Why that number?

Why 6? The joke was that it's an arbitrary measurement that no one is going to test you on. If you can get a full rep of 225lbs you can say you lift 2pl8

I say 6 because that’s the minimum I want to hit each set in a routine workout

I think if you can do a controlled rep with good form then you can "bench 2pl8." If you can do that, though, then you can probably do two or three sloppy reps, so I think it depends what you count as a rep for the purpose of bragging rights. If you say you can bench 2pl8 but your ass is in the air and you divebomb it to get maximum bounce then you'll definitely get some pushback.

        someone that actually lifts?

The bar doesn't count because benching with a barbell is roughly 45 lbs easier than benching with dumbbells. It cancels itself out.

I don't look like that. Are you trying to imply that I look like that? I don't.

That’s a terrible reason to not count the bar

No, it's not. The bar never counts, and never will. Stop trying to validate these egolifting DYELs

Yes and no. If you need to eat 10 000 kcal for the entire week, take MDMA and for all the stars to align and pray for god to be able to 1RM 2pl8 under perfect circumstances, it's theoretical at best. For me, you bench 2 pl8's when you bench 2 pl8's. If you never do it, you dont really do it. It's just assumed 1RM but if you dont do 1RM as a part of routine and never load up 2pl8's on the bar when you are doing bench? I mean? Okay? If you do 1 rep maxes every time you bench then sure but for me you dont really bench 2pl8 until you are doing it as your working set whether thats 4 reps, 6 reps or 8 reps doesnt really matter but you need to ACTUALLY load it up on the bar.

I think for 1/2/3/4 it's 3 or more reps but for 2/3/4/5 1 rep is enough

Fellas, are dumbbells and a pull up bar enough home gym for an intermediate lifter?
I want to buy Kensui dumbbells and enough plates for them to load each one up to 120lbs. I already have a pull up bar for the one godly exercise.

I would really miss the barbell if I didn’t have it but dumbbells and pull-up bar will be adequate if you make good use of them.
