Well powerlifters, strongmen, and bodybuilders do do prefer heavy compounds for hypertrophy. Idk what other serious lifting groups I have left out. But yea if it’s not a heavy barbell compound or do how you could call it a main lift. But pull ups, tricep extensions, leg press, front squats, rows, etc are all good accessories.
Wrong, bodybuilder prefer to use it for gaining strength based hypertrophy and then use isolations for the pump and endurance type shit using volume instead of extra weight for faster recovery times plus to cut their workouts short.

Wrong bro. Hypertrophy means muscle building. Please use a quick google search before posting bodybuilding.com moronicness. You have compound lifts and then accessory movements to help build them. Bench press is a compound lift. Give me one body builder that skips the next press. The greatest body builders squat, bench, ohp, and deadlift. Arnold could deadlift 600 pounds. I know homosexuals think they will find some cheat code so they don’t have to lift compounds and can curl and become gigantic but it won’t happen for you.

You have no common sense. There is no feasable way to load up 224 kgs of kettlebells if you wanted to squat or deadlift heavy. Kettlebells are fine for beginners or someone who wants to specialize but they are pointless if you want to become strong
The problem is that there's no definitive answer, clubs come in different shapes and sizes and needs depending on what you want from them. My experience of a month with a single 6kg club has been that it's plenty to start with. For reference of my general level of strength, I'll happily crank out reps of clean & press with a 28kg kettlebell, dip my bodyweight of 97kg plus16kg on a belt, and bodyweight chin-ups.
Two handed stuff with the club is fine, just a case of building up the time under tension. What little I've tried of single handed stuff has been wobbly, but I've concentrated on just getting up to doing ten minutes of two handed work; inside circles, outside circles and shield casts.

Rings are different than weights. But I would do a mixed 5x5 barbell routine squat bench dl, ohp too if you like it. Then 3-4 days a week incorporating your rings. No need to do 2 hours a day. 30-60 minutes a day. Keep it simple and measurable.
Depends on your split. Generally though I'd suggest using ring presses as accessory movements to barbell presses. Ring pullups are the GOAT pullup variant though and can be your main upper back movement. I also think that if you have a way to load them, ring rows feel much better than any BB rowing variant.
For legs, BB is king though
what's an accessory movement
also, i dont think i have enough height for ring pullups

Powershitters refer to anything else than squat, bench, deadlift, clean and OHP as an accessory lift.

personally I just work in ring exercises into a weightlifting routine, usually towards the end. i.e. doing 4x10 ring dips after incline benching, or doing false grip rows after pendlay rows.

That’s a troll pic right? >multiple pairs of kettlebells that would all up cost more than either adjustable dumbbells plus weights plus bench, or basic barbell plus weights plus bench….
A single kettlebell, maybe a pair, is ok but kettlebells are so far overpriced per pound for how basic they are. If you want to min-max for budget make sandbags instead of kettlebells. >Most expensive piece of cardio tech after Peletons…
Yeah they’re based if you go to a gym, I can’t really talk because I just go swim open water at the beach for free, but again if you want to min-max just get a jump rope for $5 or use the kettlebells you spent so much money on that are primarily a conditioning tool already.
You could get a LOT more that you can do a LOT more with, for the couple thousand $ that a concept 2 rower + multiple sets of kettlebells gets you.
Or, you could get just as much (sandbags plus jump rope) for about 1/10th the cost.
Rowing is absolutely NOT the king of cardio, running is. Rowing is just an excuse for fatties to stay sitting on their ass while "working out". It's a shit excuse for a workout and anyone ITT who is below 10% bf RIGHT NOW will agree with me.
Don't run on asphalt cretin.
Don't be obese.
Don't run in globo "running" shoes with humongous heel padding, it promotes wrong technique.
Ball of foot always lands first, this way impact shock is distributed correctly.
I run on aslphalt all the time and I'm fine. Learn to run correctly using forefoot and get shoes that don't inhibit your form with their cushion, inflexiblity, shit toebox.
>Don't run on asphalt cretin.
Asphalt and concrete are literally the best surfaces to run on, the absorb the least of your energy making it much less tiresome.
This is good advice. If you have knee pain when running then switch to running forefoot and it will fix the problem, but you’ll probably need new running shoes that aren’t inclined forward
its understandable to think this way, since most people rowing in the gym are fat and have moronic form, but anyone that's seriously trained rowing will vo2mog rooners. that and runners have shit physique while most rowers are at least ottermode
>that and runners have shit physique while most rowers are at least ottermode
You say that but "most rowers" are extremely out of shape fat people who are not doing anything. I've never seen a fat person running, I have seen plenty of fat people on rowing machines.
I would even go so far to say that the rowing machine has decreased humanity's fitness in total. By tricking hamplanets into thinking they have done work by sitting on their ass on a rowing machine for 20 minutes instead of going out and doing actual cardio, rowing machines have made humanity fatter.
>Rowing >spend $900 on a concept2 once >maybe a cheap maintenance or two every half a decade, because that thing is built to last >reach a very healthy old age, your trusty concept2 is still right there waiting for you >Running >""""free""""""", but you're actually buying a new pair of shoes every month or so >nature of high impact exercises wears out your joints no matter how much you try to mental gymnastics about it >reach a very painful old age, where you're spending hundreds on painkillers monthly >be unable to do any half intensive cardio anymore, become a sedentary vegetable >or keep pushing through the pain, larping as some kind of anime warrior, and ultimately destroy your shit and be unable to walk anymore
Yeah no thanks, you're free to ignore traditional science and keep doing your high impact trash
I actually care about my long term longevity, rather than trying to larp as "muh ancestroons"
Just got done building the pull up rack. I wasn't able to do a single one but I feel like I'm too tall for it. Dips and leg raises were easy. Excited to break it in today
Speaking of this, thinking of copping an 80lb kettlebell. I've got a 20 and a 40, was looking for a 60 but the 80 is a good deal at $65 and free shipping. Or a 95 at $74 lol
Should I pull the trigger?
I'd suggest going as heavy as you can press 5 times, and 4kg increments work for me. If you have the budget, you might consider an adjustable kettlebell; pricey, but not compared to, for example, a set of 16kg to 32kg in 4kg jumps
You listed: >bw chinups >+16kg dips >28kg clean and press with lmaobell
Those are lifts, and certified dyel tier lifts.
The purpose is to inform anons because buying a bunch of redditbells to do moronic spastic shit is a waste of money and time. Buy dumbbells and a barbell, or pay for a gym membership.
Competition style bells have a consistent handle diameter for all weights. Hard style bells tend for the handles to expand as they get heavier, so maybe look at comp bells and see if they work? My woman works with a 12kg comp bell, so unless you have weird tiny gypsy hands you should be ok
You should be able to squat heavy with that barbell too, just get some decent sawhorses, should be cheaper than racks
You will only be doing zercher/front squats though, which is absolutely fine, since they're just as great as back squats
Doing back squats without a proper rack would be too dangerous though
Honestly though? Don't even bother with a barbell, just do double the reps and sets with the heavier kb pairs
These kettlebell sets will be more than enough for you to max actual real life applicable strength, you will still get stronger than 99% of the population anyway, like close to 1/2/3/4 levels
You just won't get gym strong like powerbloats
>buying kettlebells >not buying multiple barbells
For squats, first start with one bar, then as you get stronger hold one bar in each hand on your shoulder, and then a place a third bar across your back to form a triangle
For presses, start with a bar in each hand, then balance a third bar across them both, and then balance more bars after that
Unironically all you need is rings. You can either progress by doing skills or just add weight to the basic movements and still look better than most gym goers.
>be me >went to walmart this week to get 25 pound kettle ball >no price on shelf >scanned with walmart app, 25 dollars... damn, but ok >get to register >37 dollars >wtf >call over manager >"yeah thats the online only price, in store its 37. we dont match the website price"

frick walmart. went to academy sports up the road and paid $45 for the same fricking thing. yes i lost in this story.
kettlebells are dramatically inferior pieces of shit that poor people used because they were too dumb to make a symmetrical piece of metal of a precise weight.
Then hipsters decided they were cool again and crossfit latched on and everyone pretends they're hip.
They're super mediocre for all but 2 things and take up loads of space.
Are you guys fricking Peruvian or something? Why don't you just buy actually good equipment? What is this penny pinching shit for something you will do several days a week for the rest of your life?
some people just want to be real life strong, not gym strong
you have no real life applications for your 5pl8 deadlifts
a very ugly fat body is all you got out of it
>"You have no real life application of your heavy deadlift"
It applies to literally anytime you lift anything, to wrestling takedowns, or any strength involving lifting, lower back, and explosive leg stength you absolute moron.

well, after you pull yourself up to a ledge, you need to push yourself up and over it, the dip is part of that, except you start in the bottom of the dip position. >When do you plan on hanging off a cliff over lava or something where you would need to do a pull up to survive?
Not everybody is glued to the ground like you anon, some people actually traverse up and over things.
>Climbing over ledges and traversing over objects
Very common day to day activities. Also there's no way you can do these things by just working in 3 sets of weighted pull ups at the gym twice a week like it's any other exercise, you have to be a calisthenics only guy who doesn't deadlift.
fricking your ass with workout bats or whatever you do does not make you real world strong
Completely neglecting the lower half of your body kind of makes you as UN-'functional' as possible, in fact

Takes about an hour to an hour and a half depending on the day, not counting cardio. Sometimes I'll have a cuppa in the middle though so it's not exact.
>don't you have other shit to do?
Yes but lifting is a priority.
I like lifting weights.
My lifting sessions are like 2 hours.
How long are your breaks, I just don't get what you have to lift this long
I can do squats and bench press, overhead, plus curls and tris all in one workout around 30 minutes, my breaks are 30-45 seconds
do you squat 1pl8 or something
such short breaks are meant for external gyms due to having to share equipment and time spent commuting
you're at your home, what's the hurry for
>do you squat 1pl8 or something
Little under 100kg and I don't plan on going much over that, I'l just be increasing reps if I can >such short breaks are meant for external gyms
The main reason I have a home gym is to be done with the lifting as fast as possible, not everyone enjoys lifting and sitting around will just make me cool down and lose energy
do you squat 1pl8 or something
such short breaks are meant for external gyms due to having to share equipment and time spent commuting
you're at your home, what's the hurry for
Never ever 30-45 seconds.
I dont time them,I rest until Im not tired anymore, it usually is <2 minutes when starting the workout and about 2-5 minutes as Im progressing towards the end of my workout.
Again it depends Im sure some sessions my average resting time is 90 seconds aka 1.5 minutes and others are a 5 minute average.
Takes about an hour to an hour and a half depending on the day, not counting cardio. Sometimes I'll have a cuppa in the middle though so it's not exact.
Everything with kettlebells alternating heavy/light, other than the club work - A and B usually comes in around 40 minutes, and C is currently a lot shorter because I'm new to it. Lunchtime works because I can fast until after I work out, then quickly eat lunch and am good to go.
Looking to expand my gym. Is that a row machine on the top right? Never used one before. What are the benefits of using a row machine over doing the same motion with a barbell?

your 30min long sets of curls are not a "main lift", brosplit/ppl roidtroony
Aww did I upset you? Your junk volume doesn't build the muscles you want when you do those compounds rippetoe told you to do?
"I'M NOT BUILDING MUSCLE TO LOOK GOOD BLAHA BLAH!"
Then you can't talk shit about something you don't do or understand, kys.
>got on the defensive that quick
bullseye hit right on the sore spot, huh, roidtroony
>Powershitters
>clean and OHP
homie you dumb
Well powerlifters, strongmen, and bodybuilders do do prefer heavy compounds for hypertrophy. Idk what other serious lifting groups I have left out. But yea if it’s not a heavy barbell compound or do how you could call it a main lift. But pull ups, tricep extensions, leg press, front squats, rows, etc are all good accessories.
personally I just work in ring exercises into a weightlifting routine, usually towards the end. i.e. doing 4x10 ring dips after incline benching, or doing false grip rows after pendlay rows.
Sounds solid. Just make sure your lifts are measurable. Otherwise you are just fricking around.
Depends on your split. Generally though I'd suggest using ring presses as accessory movements to barbell presses. Ring pullups are the GOAT pullup variant though and can be your main upper back movement. I also think that if you have a way to load them, ring rows feel much better than any BB rowing variant.
For legs, BB is king though
is this the DYEL general
yes
if you ever see a post arguing for kettlebells over a dumbbell or barbell, you can know for sure that the poster is a nogainz dyel moron

redpill me on cardio rowing, does it impede with your lifts?
I stuck some cheap ass cap plates onto an extra pin I got from rogue fitness to use as a mace. And I got an adjustable kettlebell from titan fitness

Anon, you posted the wrong pic again
This one doesn't even have gym equipment on it
That’s a troll pic right?
>multiple pairs of kettlebells that would all up cost more than either adjustable dumbbells plus weights plus bench, or basic barbell plus weights plus bench….
Or, you could get just as much (sandbags plus jump rope) for about 1/10th the cost.
>they hated him because he told them the truth

> King of cardio machines
> Mogged by a fricking skipping rope
Rowing is absolutely NOT the king of cardio, running is. Rowing is just an excuse for fatties to stay sitting on their ass while "working out". It's a shit excuse for a workout and anyone ITT who is below 10% bf RIGHT NOW will agree with me.
>Rowing is absolutely NOT the king of cardio,
>running is.
Asphalt and concrete are literally the best surfaces to run on, the absorb the least of your energy making it much less tiresome.
t. an actually barefoot runner
This is good advice. If you have knee pain when running then switch to running forefoot and it will fix the problem, but you’ll probably need new running shoes that aren’t inclined forward
cope seethe dilate
plus your fat and a kneelet
its understandable to think this way, since most people rowing in the gym are fat and have moronic form, but anyone that's seriously trained rowing will vo2mog rooners. that and runners have shit physique while most rowers are at least ottermode
>that and runners have shit physique while most rowers are at least ottermode
You say that but "most rowers" are extremely out of shape fat people who are not doing anything. I've never seen a fat person running, I have seen plenty of fat people on rowing machines.
I would even go so far to say that the rowing machine has decreased humanity's fitness in total. By tricking hamplanets into thinking they have done work by sitting on their ass on a rowing machine for 20 minutes instead of going out and doing actual cardio, rowing machines have made humanity fatter.
lmao
look at how rowers look and then look how you runners look
one looks like a statue, the other looks like an african tribeswoman

Yeah no thanks, you're free to ignore traditional science and keep doing your high impact trash
I actually care about my long term longevity, rather than trying to larp as "muh ancestroons"
Just got done building the pull up rack. I wasn't able to do a single one but I feel like I'm too tall for it. Dips and leg raises were easy. Excited to break it in today
shit, I'm pretty sure that's my bike
Using the new equipment now makes me realize how weak my back is. Pull ups are so hard
Row machines frick. I hopped on one for the first time yesterday and was cooked after 5 minutes.
Then you are very, very out of shape
Let me guess, you "need" more.
I only need the forest in the background. Getting my strength directly from nature
Speaking of this, thinking of copping an 80lb kettlebell. I've got a 20 and a 40, was looking for a 60 but the 80 is a good deal at $65 and free shipping. Or a 95 at $74 lol
Should I pull the trigger?
Pull the trigger for that 80; increments of 20lbs for linear strength curves you know.
i thought 35s, 53s and 70s were all you needed
qrd on why are the 86s mandatory?
I wouldn't say they are, definitely not two of them, nor double 70s for that matter
Responding to a post that is literally not about lifting with
>dyel
But here's your (You), because it'll be the highlight of your day
What is a good kettlebell set to buy for a beginner and what increments do I go by?
I'd suggest going as heavy as you can press 5 times, and 4kg increments work for me. If you have the budget, you might consider an adjustable kettlebell; pricey, but not compared to, for example, a set of 16kg to 32kg in 4kg jumps
Wouldn't I be better off going by 8kg increments like OP's image? I get more mileage out of them before that jump.
Was too big a jump for me; tried to go from 20kg to 28kg, stalled, got a 24kg to bridge the gap and it did the trick.
Noted, 16kg to 32kg; increments of 4kg, should fit my budget and living space, thank you.
You listed:
>bw chinups
>+16kg dips
>28kg clean and press with lmaobell
Those are lifts, and certified dyel tier lifts.
The purpose is to inform anons because buying a bunch of redditbells to do moronic spastic shit is a waste of money and time. Buy dumbbells and a barbell, or pay for a gym membership.
Lots of big talk, yet no body was posted.
Here's your last pity (You), don't waste it.
PLATE. LOADED. KETTLEBELL. HANDLE.
Fine for swings, but not for anything else - if you have the plates anyway, definitely worth getting, because swings are awesome
Does anyone know where i can find kettlebells with slimmer handles?
You just won't get gym strong like powerbloats
redpill
>buying kettlebells
>not buying multiple barbells
For squats, first start with one bar, then as you get stronger hold one bar in each hand on your shoulder, and then a place a third bar across your back to form a triangle
For presses, start with a bar in each hand, then balance a third bar across them both, and then balance more bars after that
Unironically all you need is rings. You can either progress by doing skills or just add weight to the basic movements and still look better than most gym goers.
Sounds really gay. Also you'll always have a weak lower body
Yup. Rings are fantastic. 50 lbs on a bulgarian dip will blow you fuvking up
>be me

frick walmart. went to academy sports up the road and paid $45 for the same fricking thing. yes i lost in this story.
kettlebells are dramatically inferior pieces of shit that poor people used because they were too dumb to make a symmetrical piece of metal of a precise weight.
Then hipsters decided they were cool again and crossfit latched on and everyone pretends they're hip.
They're super mediocre for all but 2 things and take up loads of space.

a pullup bar, dip bars, adjustable dumbells and a weight belt are literally all you need to get jacked
Are you guys fricking Peruvian or something? Why don't you just buy actually good equipment? What is this penny pinching shit for something you will do several days a week for the rest of your life?
some people just want to be real life strong, not gym strong
you have no real life applications for your 5pl8 deadlifts
a very ugly fat body is all you got out of it
You're an idiot if you don't think deadlift strength transfers to other activities
>amerifat reading comprehension
>"You have no real life application of your heavy deadlift"
It applies to literally anytime you lift anything, to wrestling takedowns, or any strength involving lifting, lower back, and explosive leg stength you absolute moron.
do you plan to marry and bridal carry a 450lbs landwhale?
then you literally don't have anything realistic to use that 5pl8 deadlift on, period
so stop suggesting normal guys to waste loads of money buying a full fledged powerfat gym, when what they actually need is something much simpler
you'd be surprised how little equipment one needs to reach natty limit and have a better conditioned body than 99.9% of the population
You are weak. Your body isn't functional. A 500 deadlift alone is better than everything you do.
t. ex calisthenics gay
at least i'm not fat and on the verge of having a heart failure, powerbloat
>Being able to do a million fricking weighted dips or some stupid shit is somehow more """""""real world""""" than being able to lift a barbell
Holy shit why are calisthenics enjoyers like this? Don't get me wrong I love pull ups and dips but where in the "real world" do you need to do a dip? When do you plan on hanging off a cliff over lava or something where you would need to do a pull up to survive?
>MUH FUNCTIONAL FITNESS
>MUH REAL WORLD
>MUH ACTUAL STRENGTH NOT THAT FAKE STRENGTH THAT COMES WITH BEING ABLE TO SQUAT HUNDREDS OF POUND BUT ACTUAL STRENGTH
>Don't get me wrong I love pull ups and dips but where in the "real world" do you need to do a dip?
well, after you pull yourself up to a ledge, you need to push yourself up and over it, the dip is part of that, except you start in the bottom of the dip position.
I love swings
I have

Any of y'all ever made your own indian clubs? I'm thinking about doing it myself, since wood is free.
The amount of dyel Zoomer hasn’t lifted more than 2 years cope in this thread really reeks.
>this anon owns his own house and has a home gym, he’s clearly an obese boomer!!! DEADLIFTS ARE LE USELESS IRL
You tend to see it in any thread on IST that isn't fundamentally about looksmaxxing for the algorithm. I guess actual exercise scares children?
mad as frick
It’s pretty simple. I enjoy a calm room.
Looks like heaven bro.
Is that an attic or a shed/baby barn?
2nd floor in a small barn where people kept horses. The roof leaks but it’s nice.
Is the floor strong enough?
is there a reason why people don't just put spotter arms inside their racks instead of spending money on safeties?
That's what I do, do people not?
I will never understand people who buy a full rack but lifts almost exclusively outside either
May as well just buy a half rack, hell even a fricking squat stand would do for most of these guys
because they would rather waste 1k+ than learn to control the weight
WHAT'S THE BEST SQUAT RACK TO BUY? ROUGUE?
MIND YOU I WANT TO DO PULL UPS ON IT AS WELL SO IT GOTTA BE A FULL RACK
Synergee off Amazon it’s quality and affordable. If money isn’t an issue rogue or literally any big brand
why are you shouting
>wants to build body
>couldn't even build his own equipment
ngmi
Nice
that's actually cool
How much $? I might do that since there's a long weekend coming and nothing to do.
Just like an Amish barn raising, you should have all the bros over to build and raise a cage. It's the only path to victory.
Bros, let suppose you just have $50, and you are very poor, also you already have a pull up bar, what would be something worth buying?
This is my acquisition strategy for the next 18-months, plan to buy eveything in order (with one power gap between diy stuff and real deal). What do you think?
>barbell
>local cheap weights
>diy rack
>diy bench
>rings and bands
>real rack
>real bench
>scrap diy rack and bench, build platform
>cardio machine
>adjustable dumbells
>probably: crash pads
>probably: quality plates
>done, don't buy any new equipment for home gym until the day I day
This is pretty much what I have except I also got an EZ Curl bar since my workout space is limited.
Airbikes or rowers ?
rowers IMO
I have both and if I had to choose one I'd go Air bike. Faster way to murder yourself via cardio.
>ITT: Autism between powershitters and twinks
Can't you fricks take what works for you personally and develop a training regimen aorund that, or are you homosexuals too autistic and prideful to budge.
A bench with enough plates is more than enough.
I was doing dumbbell presses for a while, went back to bench and I already have DOMS.
Homegym bros do you generally keep your workouts shorter around 30 minutes or is that just me?
Just you, lifting is usually 1h30min-2h and cardio 30min-50 min so almost 3 hour workouts.
Not gonna lie I would honestly kill myself than do that more than once per month, don't you have other shit to do?
>don't you have other shit to do?
Yes but lifting is a priority.
I like lifting weights.
Little under 100kg and I don't plan on going much over that, I'l just be increasing reps if I can
>such short breaks are meant for external gyms
The main reason I have a home gym is to be done with the lifting as fast as possible, not everyone enjoys lifting and sitting around will just make me cool down and lose energy
This
Never ever 30-45 seconds.
Like 2 minutes sometimes 3 I always do a bodyweight exercise immediately after finishing my weights though
upwards of 10 minutes. What's the rush? I go read, pet my cats, etc
Takes about an hour to an hour and a half depending on the day, not counting cardio. Sometimes I'll have a cuppa in the middle though so it's not exact.
My lifting sessions are like 2 hours.
Short - I work remotely and I usually exercise at lunchtimes.
Currently doing ABCABCx of:
A: Chins-ups, Dips, Swings
B: Clean & Press, Squat
C: Club
Everything with kettlebells alternating heavy/light, other than the club work - A and B usually comes in around 40 minutes, and C is currently a lot shorter because I'm new to it. Lunchtime works because I can fast until after I work out, then quickly eat lunch and am good to go.
Looking to expand my gym. Is that a row machine on the top right? Never used one before. What are the benefits of using a row machine over doing the same motion with a barbell?
The rowing machine is for cardio. It's especially good in that it uses both upper and lower body.
post more home gyms gays
I would but it's raining out and it's a shitty gym anyway
