      I mean I'm pretty confident I could
I was a pack a day smoker from 18 - 21, quit for 2 years and then my mom died and I picked up smoking again
I was smoking a lot at first but the past 4~ months it's just been 1 cig in the morning and 1 at night

No one can tell you. Any study is done off of a sample of the population. Your individual genetics and health will pin the actual outcome.

Who knows? I think vapes are far safer, I literally feel a difference in my run time. If you have the will power to only smoke 2 a day, why not just have 2 5 minute vape sessions a day? I get that a cig tastes good, but also... so? You wouldn't have to be worrying about this shit.

I actually used to vape when I was first quitting but it just upped my nicotine intake because I was doing it constantly
I have considered buying vapes and using them the same way I do cigs (eg. once in the morning and once at night)
probably would be healthier though obviously not healthy

I read somewhere that 45% of people who smoke cigs get addicted to them which is higher than people who try heroin getting addicted to it at 30%

opioids are much more addictive. the issue is that the first time someone does them it's usually not a great time. they have no tolerance, dose too high, get sick asf, puke and pass out

cigs barely have a 'high'. it relieves stress that it itself creates by making you addicted

yep. got this native tobacco for free so I decided to mix some into my bowls. after a few days I realized I was already addicted and couldn’t smoke weed on its own so I threw out the bag before shit got worse

vapes never give me the same hit as a cig, despite the nicotine content being higher. no idea how that works, might be placebo. maybe it's the burn and taste that gives the impression of a harder hit

either way OP, 2 a day won't cut into your life expectancy much, if at all. but it's always a gamble.

        Anonymous

cigs cut into your life expectancy because of how addictive they are, not because having a single cig is bad. it's the 1000s over time, combined with the "oh it's not a big deal i can quit anytime" mindset

Probably. I get the taste. Hell, I broke for New Years and smoked 3/4 a pack. But also, my lungs were shredded, my stomach and throat were killing me after a year and a half of not doing it. Vape is just far superior; hell, even Zyn. You'd take creatine for a 2% bump... hop over to something healthier that clearly pays off way more than 2% better, IMO.

Tobacco does not literally shave years off of your life. It reduces your chances of living to the average natural lifespan. There is a big difference.

That said, look at it like this: how do you want to die? Are you comfortable with risking the various ways that tobacco could lead to your death? Are you comfortable with dying younger than average?

Curious drug nicotine is. It does nothing for you aside from getting you addicted. Maybe it’s a mild appetite suppressant but so is caffeine. If you want a good appetite suppressant that isn’t addictive try bronkaid.

Pretty bad, even one cigarette causes your alveoli to shit the bed for many hours. So the amount of incremental damage going from 0-2 is probably about the same as going from 2-10 or something.

And then there's a the risk of going to 3 or 4, which you will probably do even if you cope and tell yourself that you won't.

Tobacco and nicotine are fun at first, then it's a chore, then it is a misery, and then you're so sick of it in all it's forms that you are simply a sniveling drug addict crying for another hit, picking butts out of receptacles, trying a new product, gum, vapes, patches, pills, dip, chew, cigars, light cigarettes, menthol cigarettes, a pack a day, half a pack a day, no smoking during the week. If you are like 80% of smokers, which you are or else you wouldn't ask this question, it's a horrible downhill slide into a shitty slave existence.

Well the bad is measured in terms of pack years so by that metric it isn't that bad. But every human body responds differently to smoke , some develop cancer even without smoking. It's all genetics. You never know. Some spoke many packs a day and won't even develop emphysema or chronic bronchitis.

Other than that , psychologically you are always gonna be an addict depsite just the 2 cigs. You are gonna be tense for the rest of the day waiting for the time to smoke your cig of the day. Spend the rest waiting for the next day to smoke again. It is probably worse than someone who smokes more cause he does not spend much time being tense and anxious about the next one.

Best is to quit. Or to accept you're a smoker and enjoy the cigs.

      >Well the bad is measured in terms of pack years so by that metric it isn't that bad.
Yeah, but it's unlikely to be linear like that. Like if you smoked 100 cigs a day for a year and then quit forever vs 10 a day for 10 years. That would be the same in pack-years. I don't know which would be worse (I'd guess the latter), but I doubt they would be the same.

Generally smoking less has been indicated to be less harmful even when done over a longe period of time. I recall reading a couple studies that indicated smoking one cigar a week raised your odds of getting cancer by an almost negligible level

          This says the opposite

          https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5903957/

It's looking specifically at COPD though, but COPD is a bigger risk for smoking than cancer in practice, but it usually takes longer to kill you.

          >cancer
Cancer aint the problem gay its HTN, CHF, and COPD. In other words once you hit your 50s enjoy never being able to breath and constantly feeling like your drowning in your own fluids for 10-20 years until they put you on hospice

            Anonymous

Yeah but cancer is also a problem. Along with all the things you mentioned. Small cell and squamous cell cancer in lungs , bladder cancer , hell lots of cancers have smoking as a risk factor

        Anonymous

Yeah but that is a metric otherwise how will we judge ...

Any way , better to quit nicotine and smoking. No benefit. Inb4 nicotine helps in blah blah blah , welp it's highly addictive.

      >the bad is measured in terms of pack years
Yeah OP's not in bad shape, and any acute damage should heal within months of quitting with minimal long-term effects.
      But it's expensive and addictive.
Anyways most people have an addiction, whether it is coffee, alcohol, cigs, or video games...

    1) damage you externally and internally big time
    2) doesn't even get you high
    3) get you addicted
    4) widthdraw fells like mourning the passed of 5) a loved one of the breakup of a relationship
bigger part of the damage is irreversible
    6) the damage now will get potentialized as older you get
    7) lung collapse will make you drawn on your own mucus

also, if you sum the amount of people that died on average per year at the world war 2, korea war and vietnam war, the sum is LESS per year than the deaths related of smoking consequences

and you are not special, snow flak.. the same will happen to you, no matter as much you imagine yourself removed from the npc world

      >4) withdrawal feels like mourning the passed of a loved one or the breakup of a relationship
Interesting because TCM says that sadness is the negative emotion that corresponds to the lungs. So in the short-term a cig shuts down sadness, but baseline levels of sorrow remain the pretty much the same in a long-term smoker, and rebound hard when quitting.

probably not THAT awful in grand scheme of things if you don't up your uptake, which is big if.
better drop the habit now when you are smoking little. Every smoker that isn't a teenager would rather not be smoking, but breaking addiction is grueling ordeal with how widespread and socially accepted smoking is (consider downing a beer in work during your break).

Bro, there's people that smoke like turks and eat like a ketotard on steroids and they die at 90+ years of age. Meanwhile you get all these yoga doing pansies with perfect diets that never smoked a cig ever that die at 45 from heart attacks. Just do you.

The "perfect" diet is usually something stupid like vegan or following the "food pyramid," so it makes perfect sense when people doing "everything right" get sick.

        >bread is fine (gluten is a meme)
        >veggies are bad
        >exercise is bad (makes me tired)
