      Go frick yourself

ADHD literally doesn’t exist. It’s a made up category by a bunch of professionally educated elites (like almost every other mental illness) to either a) legalise the medication and punishment of people exhibiting behaviours that displease the corporate state (hyperactivity, refusal to engage in monotonous bullshit, preference not to sit still), or b) give an excuse to shitheads who refuse to focus or engage in self discipline by naming their weakness and giving them an easy pill to take.

Stop going on IST. Stop eating like dogshit. Get regular, normal hours of sleep, with minimal blue light and maximum sunlight throughout the day. Go to the gym and stop complaining. And stop taking your shitty pills too.

As someone who got an ADHD diagnosis years ago to take the easy way out with Adderall and Vyvanse (which doesn't actually work long term), they're right. ADHD is bullshit. The longer you cope and avoid taking the steps needed to fix your shit, the longer you'll suffer, not fulfill your potential and live in mediocrity.

not him but I usually only read these kinds of posts on IST when everywhere else people are saying adhd meds saved their lives. Dont know who to believe IST chuds or normies

            Anonymous

Plenty of people on Reddit talk about hating their meds. I believe the positive comes mostly from people who've only recently started taking them before experiencing dependence and/or diminishing returns. I wouldn't say not to try it if you have some self control and can be honest with yourself.

did you have adhd symtomps and fix it this way? otherwise why are you so confident that you know better than everyone else?

        Anonymous

yes. also was diagnosed with ‘Generalised Anxiety Disorder’ in the same swoop, and things got better when i just went fricking outside, stopped eating processed food and sugars, stopped using the internet all the time, and stopped hiding behind labels. the fact that you’re this annoyed means you know i’m right, and you’re unable to separate yourself from a made up category that has literally no meaning. you’re not broken. there is no permanent brain circuitry damage going on inside you. you are entirely capable of doing everything you want to, you just need to reject the dopamine/attention-fricking aspects of modernity that utterly destroy the healthy mind.

My wife has adhd and I don’t care if it’s a real thing or not, she’s got like 70% of the issues that you see when reading about it. She doesn’t take medication for it anymore (at my request), but I also know she is incapable of developing certain habits that your everyday average person can develop, like putting your car keys in the same place every time you come home. It’s annoying but she’s hot, athletic, smart, went to an Ivy League school, tall, her family is great (and wealthy), and I definitely married up. I think most people have a fricked up attention span because of phones, but this is something on a whole other level.

You're a luddite who doesn't know what he's talking about. ADHD causes actual neurological changes, namely changes to the way the brain produces/responds to dopamine as well as stunting the growth of several parts of the brain, namely the amygdala and the hippocampus. Yes, it is overdiagnosed as frick, particularly with the fricked attention span of today's society, and in the US where ~~*big pharma*~~ can make bank from selling ADHD meds, but it does certainly exist.

you’re moronic if you think a physical reaction to a substance is the same as making up a name for a mental state that lacks discipline and focus. one is measurable, one is entirely taking place in the psyche of an individual, or the interpretation of behaviour by a ‘professional’. also, allergies do tend to be caused by poor microbiomes as a result of poor parenting choices in the early stages of childhood development, or diet. they are, in a sense, made up, but not to the same extent as ‘i can’t concentrate’ disease.

        Anonymous

How is an allergy a physical reaction but ADHD isn’t? The entire brain is chemicals. Dopamine is a chemical. Abstract concepts like personality, likes, dislikes, etc. are all just a culmination of specific arrangement of chemicals in the brain. Dopamine is a chemical and those with ADHD have less of it which results in the brain not wanting to do things that are less gratifying. Just read up even the basics of ADHD and the actual physical and chemical realities of it in the brain.

if you take your argument to the ultimately conclusion you will find that since you are made up of materials, you can alter those materials because you have free will and also totally control your body.
people don’t want to believe or choose not to believe that we can control all of ourselves. in these cases, drugs can forcefully affect an unwilling individual, but there are negative side effecfs

The ultimate conclusion is actually that we don’t have free will

An allergy is an immune response to a specific, physical condition. ADHD is a particular (completely arbitrary) pattern of brain behaviour (your 'chemicals', if you like) that is just as much determined by some bullshit genetic argument as it is by sunlight, food, social life, etc. In that sense, sure, there is a physical component, but it's not an inherent trait or a condition like an allergy is, it's the consequence of poor health and (sometimes) pure weak will. Attention and forgetfulness are symptoms of a weak, untrained mind, or a mind overly reliant on technology to make up for where memory and focus should have been, while hyperactivity is either a pretty normal state that civilization dislikes because it isn't conducive to control or labour, or it's the consequence of poor health. Read beyond bullshit DSM5 criteria and read about the actual selection of said criteria itself and you wouldn't be regurgitating 'muh chemical imbalance' like every hyper-diagnosed white girl on TikTok.

Being said, none of this is OPs fault, and I love OP and hope he overcomes this. I just think that if everyone keeps infantilising him he'll be much weaker for it, and will eventually have to face this as I (and others in this thread) have had to do in a much more difficult form.

ADHD is pretty much real but it's not just some "OHH I CAN'T CONCENTRATE" problem and that shit will come out once you live with someone and shit starts falling apart for you. But take the symptoms as clues to work around it and don't be a b***h about it. Your brain works differently, just be smart about it and stop using it as an excuse.

I definitely don't understand the triggered anon here. You won't get a (you) from me.

Attention is a practiced habit. Why do you think it's skyrocketing when phones are being given to people younger and younger. Yes amphetamines help support attention behaviour, but it, like most other mental illnesses are caused by lack of practice in the things we need to practice.

I started to take modafinil and, slowly, I've started to notice it makes a huge difference. Can concentrate on yard work, reading, watching videos, studying, working out, listening to music etc. I have serious ADHD and without medication I can't watch even anime or TV shows in full, I have to get up and walk around and talk to myself and other shit (on the autism spectrum too but I do well socially.) Reading Capitalist Realism right now and it touches on ADHD and mental illness in Chapter 4, an interesting take on the matter. Before I took dexamphetamine and got addicted to it but this is much better, albeit the effect is less pronounced and it makes me a bit glum but I can snap myself out of it if I try. Also I have to take it as soon as I wake up, after 9am it keeps me up. I take days off because I do want to feel like myself and be that energetic moron I usually am plus tolerance. Also the twitter block has made me realise just how addicted and fricked up I am from the Internet. Also diet and drink lots of water and chamomile tea.

Could you pay attention in class at school for more than 5 minutes without thinking or being distracted by other random things? The analysis starts there.
