cause its a specialized sport that 99% of gym goers dont understand and want to participate in

  2. 5 months ago

Because 99% of gym goers are genetic dead ends without an athletic background. They're there for "self improvement," and are unwilling or unable to perform the olympic lifts.

Regardless of proportions, you would be much better off sprinting in terms of fitness than doing Olympic lifting.

Because the clean is a foundational movement used by athletes of almost every sport to train explosiveness in the legs. People who tend to avoid it are powerlifting gays who refuse to post body like yourself

Incorrect. Oly lifts are only done because football coaches saw that strength training increased performance and the only people doing strength training of any kind that were easily accessible to them were Oly lifters and just copied them regardless of whether or not the motions they were doing were actually necessary to develop the athletes. For developing the muscles needed, there are far superior motions for training the muscles. Athleticism? That only comes from practicing the sport. Oly movements are irrelevent in that regard. Clean and Jerk being done is just tradition, much like a shaman or witch doctor doing the rain dance to try to make it rain.

              >Cleans were a staple in every lower body workout day
And they were a waste a of time. You would have had the same results without cleans. You would've just had a more productive training session without them. Clean is just as effective for training athletes as a rain dance is for making it rain.

No. Oly is not based. It's just an autistic niche for people with dysgenic proportions relative to the ideal proprotions for most real sports and physical activities.
        >CrossFit
The danger of the motion comes from the motions themselves. There are just so many crossfitters doing those same motions relative to people going to the few oly lifting gyms that you're going to see a whole lot more people getting injured because of those motions doing them at a crossfit garage. The only caveat here is that an oly lifting coach would probably be guaranteed to be able to properly instruct and train the motion whereas a crossfit instructor might not have the same. The same logic applies to oly lifts in gyms. Some random gymgoer deciding to do oly lifts will likely injure themselves in the same way.

                >to train explosiveness in the legs
The only way to train explosiveness is to make the the muscles in your legs so that they can generate more force at any one time and to practice a specific skill enough in the exact conditions you will use it that your nervous system becomes adapted to efficient motor unit recruitment during that activity. Clean and Jerk is irrelevent as far as CNS adaptation for a variety of sports are concerned and extremely inefficient at training the legs. If the athletes are training with Squat or Leg Press (they are), then all their explosiveness is coming from the muscle development during Squat or Leg Press and the skill development during sports practice. It's not coming from clean and jerk or snatch or any such movement.

Go find a paper that actually proves the power clean actually caused increases in performance in specific papers. I'll wait. Protip: You won't find one.
                >The clean and it’s derivatives are essential movements for nearly every athlete to develop power and explosiveness
The only things you can develop are either CNS adaptation which activity specific or muscle strength (only general factor). "Power" and "explosiveness" are not general physiological traits. Unfortunately many people including naive professionals falsely believe they are and just ride the band wagon like every other idiot who uses "power" and "explosiveness." Since the CNS adaptation is activity specific, the cleans can contribute nothing to this. Muscle strength is the only possible factor here. If were to suppose that cleans were effective muscle builders, then we can simple substitute cleans out of the program for any other exercises that are a combination of any exercises that use the same muscle groups and notice no difference in performance. However, as cleans are a notoriously bad exercise for muscle development as has been especially well known within bodybuilding in particular whereas squat has always been favored (and rightfully so). Cleans can thus be removed as nothing but a pointless side activity.

How about you actually post some evidence to refute my point. So far the entirety of the athletic world still uses cleans and their derivatives in their work outs. If they were such a waste of time then you wouldn’t see pros doing them as well. When you post your next wall of cope be sure to post body with it as well, you sound like a powerfatty

I didn't look into it, but I think the football team weight room probably got an upgrade so they unloaded the "old" stuff on the regular students. Not complaining though, it was the nicest gym setup I have ever had. Probably ever will.

I quit doing snatches forever after I crushed my nuts doing one and couldn't sit down for a week.
Still do clean and jerk though. You just need to learn to be humble. You can't push yourself like you can with machines. You wouldn't do a squat without any safeties if you were expecting to fail (I hope), and if you were, you would have an escape plan in your brain for if you fricked up or it was too hard.
