How common is 2pl8 anyway? I doubt most guys can even bench 1pl8, most guys in my gym certainly don’t do much more than 1pl8. Is 1/2/3/4 a meme?

the entire point is that 1/2/3/4 is a goal to hit, it's not supposed to be free
Isn't 1pl8 60 kgs if the bar is counted and since you homosexuals don't count it, 40 kgs? That really is baby weight and I am a dyel. Also why is a plate counted as 20 kgs and not 25?
>40kgs
You're not accounting for acceleration due to gravity. You need to divide for 9.8, so your "40kg" is actually more like 4kgs, DYEL
Yes I am because it is already included in the variable moron
Please let the "dont count bar" meme die, it's been too long.
It took me 3 and a bit years to hit 2pl8 iirc, however my diet wasn't very good and lifting wasn't my main priority (also did martial arts).
I see quite a few guys in my (commercial) gym who are benching 2pl8, or benching 90kg for 10 reps or whatever and definitely could hit 2pl8.
It's definitely an achievable goal for an average person imo.
For 1? Fairly common. For 10 or more reps? You'd be considered an advanced lifter if not fat.
>advanced lifter
135 for 10 calculates to 179 for 1. in what world is the bar this low to be considered “advanced”? highschool tier weight
135 is 1pl8, not 2. 225 for 10+ while not being fat is uncommon and about a 3pl8 1rm (not that 1rm matters to anyone but bloat lords)
my b misread
>135 for 10 calculates to 179 for 1.
This is fake fricking math there's no way that's how it works.
https://strengthlevel.com/one-rep-max-calculator
It's an estimate smoothbrain.
Sounds about right to me
He's using a guideline for estimation. No shit there isn't an exact mathematic formula for relating two independent actions. This would be like a painting business estimating that they could paint one 10,000 sq. ft. house in five days if they are able to paint a 5,000 sq. ft. house in three days.
What gym do you DYELers go to? Curves or something? Were you raised on goyslop? Are you all manlets/lanklets???
I go to a dedicated bodybuilding/powerlifter gym.
About 5% of the members can hit 225 for 10+ reps or 315 for 1. Only the people with pro cards.
Well, only 5% that aren't bloatlords.
given my minimal experience, I really want to believe this. no one in my gym can hit 2pl8 for reps
t. garage gym
I can hit 225 for 11 and barely missed 3pl8 last time I tested maxes, and I would consider myself in the lower 50% of my gym.
Same, thats why I consider the other statements so shocking.
most people don't even lift
those that do usually lift in commercial gyms and don't take it very seriously
people who go to the gym and try to train heavy are a rarity
Apex Fallacy
>most people don't even lift
And we don't compare ourselves to those anymore than we would compare our literacy to that of uncontacted Amazon tribes.
>those that do usually lift in commercial gyms and don't take it very seriously
>people who go to the gym and try to train heavy are a rarity
Depends very heavily on the gym. There's a world of difference from the Crunch Fitness I went to as a guest when visiting family and La Fitness, where the former is probably what you're thinking of while the latter is chock full of guys that can rep 2pl8.
>Apex Fallacy
The apex is all that matters, the rest doesn't exist. I am always the weakest person at the gym no matter where I go. Better work hard.
>those that do usually lift in commercial gyms
Whats a commercial gym? I go to a cheap ass chain gym (cheapest in my city that isnt planetshitness) and there are a ton of bloatlords and super buff looking guys there, so I dont get it
Cheap gym targeted at recreational lifters. Usually doesn’t have any specialty equipment for weightlifting/strongman/powerlifting or nice machines. Telling how many anons have never stepped foot in a serious gym if they think 225 is a rare bench
>Usually doesn’t have any specialty equipment for weightlifting/strongman/powerlifting or nice machines.
Oh. My gym has a ton of equipment and machines and they add more every now and then, but its like $10 (usd equivalent)
I don’t mean equipment in general, I mean specialty like calibrated plates or specialty bars like axle bars and power bars
What's your height and body weight? I see people hit it for a couple of reps regularly. But only a handful of people do I see just rep it out. The people that do basically live at my gym tho so they are always there. But there's only a handful out of the several hundred members.
5'7
185
Fatter than I'd like to be but still fit by normies >standards
>Short and borderline obese
Yeah it's less common for people that aren't 1 point away from being considered obese.
>using BMI
I'm flabby but not that fat. if you're not at least overweight by BMI you should try lifting.
it's fine to be overweight as a lifter but you shouldn't be close to obese as a natty
I shouldn't be but that's the only way I could get to 3pl8 bench. That's what happens when you're made from genetic excrement scraped from the bottom of a barrel. I've spent most of my life watching fat, untrained guys be stronger than me just because they were 6'2, took not only a decade of lifting but also getting fat myself to surpass them.
>lower 50% of my gym
maybe measured logarithmically lmfao
>dedicated powerlifting gym
LA Fitness isn’t a powerlifting gym DYEL. I go to a dedicated powerlifting/bodybuilding gym and 2pl8 bench is extremely common. 300+ is pretty common, strongest guys in the gym are putting up 400+.
What's funny is that the La Fitness I go to has plenty of people putting up 2pl8. I imagine a dedicated powerlifting gym is full of ogres that do that for deload.
I'm at 1/2/2/3 personally, took me 18months to get 1pl8 ohp, 2 years to hit 2pl8 bench. I neglected squats and dead due to broken back so only been going on those lifts for 6 months atm
2pl8 is extremely common (feel free to disagree), because it is the main goal for every gym bro. The thing is that they then rarely try to push past it. They just get there so they can say yeah I bench(ed) 2pl8 and that's it.
This. A lot of guys in my gym do 2pl8, but usually only 1-3reps and not with a controlled decsend. Very few actually do full sets of 2pl8. The real milestone at my gym is 3pl8, which only a handful of guys can do.
if you bench 2pl8 for reps you have developed a good enough chest. Many people settle for good enough.
I agree. Then they drop off a bit and hover around 205. Or maybe coast and can do 225 for 2-3 reps maybe but will never do more
I Bench 2 plates for reps
Impressive, very nice
Ok Mr. Fox, I'm sure those grapes must be very sour.
1 plate is normal unless you are a woman.
when you do a pushup you push 70% of your weight.
Just eat and learn proper technique
most guys actually cant do it. commercial gym goer. average benchpress for reps for the guys at my gym is 40-50 kg.
when i was like 16 ish years olds and was a fat frick i benched 40 first time, then next time 50.
I soon got up to 60kg within a month of basically no nutrition or protein.
Bench is relies heavily in technique, learn it and you will put easily 10kg on the lift you have now.
extrremely uncommon. been actually looking at how much other dudes bench press this month since i wanted to know how good am i and only saw 2 ppl this month hitting 2pl8. Going 3/4 times a week btw.
It is very rare. Without a shadow of doubt if I randomly select 10 people (male) from the gym, 9 out of those 10 cannot bench 2pl8.
This doesn't mean that it's impressive though. It's impressive for the general population but it is incredibly easy to be better than "normal" people in whatever you do. Most people just cannot stick to anything, period. Even training just 6-8 months with perfect diet and following your workout program to a T is almost unheard of.
I mean look at Isley, second pic stats: 100kg bench press. 2pl8 is really all you need and it is definitely not common occurence in the gym. Most guys bench like 1pl8 and with a little bit of training they can do 1,5pl8. Some freaks can even do 1,5pl8 first day at the gym but the jump from that to 2pl8 is astronomical. It's exponentially more rare.
One pl8 is already really good, it's like pushing up a 60kg man 10-12 times for several sets, if you compare this performance with the current people strength state it's good because it requires some good pecs and triceps
>60kg
>man
Yeah, that's a woman. Any man should hit that within their first year of lifting. Took me about 3 months
I’ve only seen one 3pl8 1RM. Most other guys do between 1 and 2.
The frick are you guys doing to reach it that fast? I’ve perfected my technique (perfect leg drive, upper back tight, bracing) and gone hard at it but I’m still at 100lb for reps. The only thing I’m not doing is bulking, but every other lift is going up fine (including DB bench) (except BB OHP) so I don’t know what the frick is going on
I just went in and increased 5-10lbs 3x a week for the first several months. I weighed 175-180lbs at the time though. I'm 6'3.
You're way bigger than me though
I'm 5'9, 145lb
I don't even know where to approach the problem now, since my pecs and delts have actually developed really well (although they started off inexistent, since I had to start with the bar kek)
I guess I have to leave it on the table for when I stop cutting
Well, IST taught me you're not a real man until you reach 1/2/3/4. From that point on, you can see yourself as an actual male that lifts, but not before.
Obviously IST is full of shit so there's that.
1/2/3/4 is the bare minimum to claim that you lift.
2pl8s is the new 1pl8. Anyone can do it
I recently did 1pl8 for 4 reps, I am very happy 🙂
There was a semi-regular at my old gym who didn't progress from doing 70kgs for reps for three years. And this dude would be considered fit by normie standards, relatively lean with proper abs.
The bar literally could not be lower, get to the gym and start impressing people.
Is your goal to be average, you absolute fricking loser?
It really isn't too hard to get there. I went from doing 1pl8 reps in january of this year to 2pl8+ reps now and I'm fairly average. (5'9" 185lbs.) Just have to show up fairly consistently and put in some decent effort, really not that complicated.
180kg DL is alot harder than 100kg bench
I found a 200kg DL easier than a 100kg bench.
>hurr durr me hit 1pl8 in 2 days hurr durr dyel
So when are you gays gonna bench press your bodyweight for reps, oh wait.....
1/2/3/4 sounds hard for normies and casuals but once you hit it you realize it's not that hard and you should go further
If you eat enough and stick to training every healthy young man can hit 2/3/4/5 as a natty. It’s just a matter of how badly you want it
I can do it, so I refuse to believe it's rare.
You can expect about 10 men bench 2 plates for reps in a big gym. That drops down to really small when you bump up the weights to even 2.5 plates
I've never seen 3 plates for reps in my life. One roided guy does slight incline dumbbell press with 40kgs, he surely could do it but he always just dumbbell presses.
40kg is nothing for incline bench, I can do 75lb x 12 for dumbbell incline press and I can't even bench 2plates x5 yet
If using 40kg dumbbells for incline, should be easily 2pl8
listen to ricky
How much is 2plate in dumbbells? I can rep 105lb dumbbels for 6 for sets now and honestly tomorrow going to try 110lb for the first time in my entire life.
105 per DB for sets of 6 is clearly beyond 2pl8 bb bench.
Absolute weight is moronic. I am 190cm (6'2'' in mutt units) and I weigh around 95kg (210 poons) and I can bench 2,5plates no problem but if a dude smaller than me lifted the same it would obviously be more impressive. Go for rep/body mass ratio instead
I am starting to think most of IST are genetic dead ends. When I was in high school most seniors in our gym benched 225. I was one of 3 that year to bench 315 just from doing SS.
Yeah no shit. Me and my buddies were closing in on 400lbs bench presses in high school. We werent even football players or even that big compared to most. Just a little above average size.
>did 225 for 4 reps today
Felt nice since that was an all time rep PR (have only ever gone for triples). Wanted 5 but the 4th was too much of a grind that I wasn't gonna risk it. I'll try again soon though. I've been hitting stupid PRs with weighted dips and that has definitely been helping. Did 7 reps with 80lbs added today and now I'm sore as shit. Thanks for reading my blog, be sure to like and subscribe.
Anon most people can bench 1pl8 within a couple weeks of starting lifting, if not in the first session are you serious?
2pl8 is the first goal to hit.
Maybe anon is 14 in which case 1pl8 could take some time but a not insignificant amount of men can hit a 1pl8 bench their first few days in the gym
I added the stipulation of couple of weeks because I am aware theres a chance of people existing who are so weak they would have to start with 10kg on each side or even just the 20kg bar. Either fat fricks who work sedentary jobs or skeletons
When I was 15 and started lifting I was so weak I couldn’t do 1pl8 but I can’t imagine a grown man struggling like I did
175lb here, 34 y/o. Been able to do 2pl8 for a while, I like using the 125lb dbs and can get those for 4-5 reps. I’d say 1/4-1/3 of the dudes at my commercial gym can do 2pl8 bench… maybe more, idk. I don’t really pay too much attention but I do see 2pl8 bench fairly often. 3pl8 bench not so much. There’s a few guys who get 3, and like two who I’ve seen hit a 405 bench at this particular gym
2pl8 OHP is impressive to see, esp when it’s strict form. 1/2/3/4 isn’t all that impressive if you’ve been training for a while. 2/3/4/5 will get some attention, esp OHP and bench.
Average off the street - most men between 22 - 50 can probably hit 95lbs.
With a bit of training (3 to 6 months depending on how much time they've got to put in), most guys can hit 1 plate.
Those in physical jobs can likely hit 1 plate. They often have strong arms but chests are typically proportionally weak. Many of these guys also have injuries from 5, 10, 20 years working these jobs. That can be a factor.
I would say most guys who desire to bench 2 plates could get there in 1.5 to 3 years while fitting lifting into their normal lives, or like 9 months to 1.5 years if they make it a top 3 life priority. That assumes they are training with someone experienced or otherwise well coached, and not afraid to gain weight.
Finally I'm guessing 8-15% of men could hit 2plates today if it was important to them. Lots of injuries, lots of older guys, lots of guys who weigh 150lbs or less. But that's the ballpark. You're no superhero for doing it, but you're certainly far above standard guys. If you want remarkable strength that stands out among strong people you gotta hit like 350lbs.
I've not been lifting for long but one thing I've learned is that some people take way longer on developing bench than others. I am at 2.5pl8 squat and DL after about a year, but my bench 1rm is still a plate. It's all DYEL numbers but my bench has progressed way slower than the other two.
Am adding in more chest accessory lifts but still. I am also fairly skinny so that doesn't help
Are you sure you are using the correct form? Make sure you real have your shoulders pinched back so you are using your chest to push.
It took me about 2,5 almost 3 years to bench 1pl8.
Last week I set a new PR (2 plates for 3 reps)
But there are actually not many guys in my gym who can bench 2 plates I guess.
Only seen it maybe 3 times.
>It took me about 2,5 almost 3 years to bench 1pl8.
what the frick???
I started lifting last year in my backyard with a rusty barbell, did that until early this year when I bought some proper equipment and was able to actually form a routine. My bench 1RM was 110lbs when I started and now it's 205
At 6'2" I started a 190lbs skinny fat, it was bad. I could bench like 100lbs. I got down to 160, then slowly added up. After about 2 years I got 2 plates at around 195. After 3 years I could get 2 plates for 2-3 reps at about 185. It takes some time.
2pl8 is average among serious lifters, ie better than 50% of all people who take lifting seriously.
It is better than 99% of all men who ever lived.
It is an achievable goal for most men and a good sign of having made it.
2pl8 is minimum for serious lifters.
My boss can bench double his bodyweight. He told me to do Chin ups to improve my bench. Not sure how that carries over but he's a skinny looking guy who hides his insane arms under baggy clothes. I can only bench my bodyweight. Around 93kg.
>He told me to do Chin ups to improve my bench. Not sure how that carries over
Probably due to stronger lats giving more stability
I get leg cramps doing chin/pull ups. I'm too fricking tall for the bar at my gym.
/fat/ here. I started working out in January and I put up a new 1RM of 295 the other day. I think starting working out as a fat person is giving me extra strength.
*Not landwhale fat, but noticeably fat. 6-0 245.
I can bench 30kg on flat db bench, how close is that to 2 plate? I can’t barbell bench I got scoliosis, db only.
>see fat guy in gym "bench" 2 pl8
>bounces the weigh on his fat stomach like a trampoline
>How common is 2pl8 anyway?
it is so common it is regarded as the bench mark
