Lou wasn't as defined and his proportions, while incredible, weren't as good as Arnold's. Lou was definitely bigger and stronger, but it's not a competition of 'who is the biggest'.
I remember first seeing pumping iron at 14 and wondering how Arnold beat Lou. I thought Lou was robbed. Now I can see how blind I was. If you think Lou should have won just because he is massive then they should just give it to the tallest guy with the biggest frame every year.
Condition, bodybuilding isn't just about being big, there are multiple criteria. Mass, condition, symmetry, balance, completeness etc. Lough is mass on Arnold, but that's just about all he has.
I love Arnold's physique and would suck his big muscle.
But why does his legs always look off? Not even the legs but when the legs meet the upper body. Is it because of small butt? Just can't put my finger on it.
By being nowhere near as conditioned as Arnold and Arnold having better proportions, he was also clearly not as good as Serge Nubret at the show, assuming it's 1975 Olympia
The public perception that would have crushed bodybuilding if they selected a weak man to Mr Olympia cannot have been. Serge was doomed from the start.
arnold had better definition everywhere
but.... other guy BIG
definition is way more important. Lou's body fat is too high for bodybuilding comp
Arnold had better conditioning and had an obvious in with the judges

The olympia was just a promotional event for a supplement company
only sensible answer
Even with golden era bodybuilding not relying on super low bodyfat and paper thin skin, Lou just looks fricking bloated.
