It’s because, contrary to popular thought, the metabolic pathway of ethanol (ie alcohol) does not lead to the creation of new fat (liponeogenesis).
Most beers drunk at frats are lite beers, whose primary source of calories is from the alcohol. In order for alcohol to be used as energy by the body, it is eventually converted to acetyl-CoA. Acetyl-CoA is converted to energy directly through the Krebs cycle.
You can get fat off of beer, but really only if you eat a lot of other food with it. Your body will preferentially burn the alcohol as fuel and convert the carbs in your burger bun to fat (and not burn the fat from your burger at all). Also, most frat bros are young, so the inflammation of the liver you see in older alcoholics isn’t present yet.
Alcohol promotes accumulation of fat in the liver mainly by substitution of ethanol for fatty acids as the major hepatic fuel. Progressive alteration of the mitochondria, which occurs during chronic alcohol consumption, decreases fatty acid oxidation by interfering with citric acid cycle activity. This block is partially compensated for by increased ketone body production. Thus, mitochondrial damage perpetuates fatty acid accumulation even in the absence of ethanol oxidation. Alcohol facilitates esterification of the accumulated fatty acids to triglycerides, phospholipids, and cholesterol esters, all of which accumulate in the liver.
Tl;dr alcohol metabolism takes priority by being digested first and interferes with the body’s ability to break down fats. What a shocker
I was in a fraternity, but keep in mind this was 8 years ago. >The majority of your stereotypical chad fratbros are either current or former athletes >Weed and liquor (no cal/low cal) were far more popular than beer most of the time >It typically isn't everyday, you often have to maintain a certain gpa to stay in a frat so getting schwasted every night isn't always feasible >Your physique doesn't usually improve the longer you're in a frat >Poverty induced fasting (alc vs food, not I can't afford rent) >Hey lets go do this sport/physical activity/attract women usually requires not being a complete fatfrick
Frats are generally a mix of body types with a certain look/shared interest being the main factor for entry.
TL:dr movie star physiques are rare but no one notices/tries to hook up with the typical fatass beta chi upsilon when you can enjoy your youth w/ chad-lite the alpha omega
I had abs and at least an ottermode physique when I was a frat kid.
The "secret" was being young and eating lots of protein. Getting drunk often caused me to eat below maintenance the next day or two. And when I partied/went out I drank low cal mixed drinks (vodka soda), not bloated ass beers.
Most frat guys arent in that good of shape. They are usually pudgy built. Like they lift and all and obviously have muscle but also are like 17% bodyfat
>Past college age >on all sorts of PEDs >hollywood trainers >whatever you might say about him he clearly gets after it in the gym
Yeah, real representative picture OP. I did not see a single ripped guy in my friends frat that was one of the ‘cool’ ones. I’m the few cases it is true it’s because they don’t give a frick about rules so they have zero apprehensions about roiding. Roiding was pretty much unheard of when I was in hs/college, even by the guys who wanted to play college sports
Most of the pictures of what you see in pictures are freshman and they hardly drink every single day. If you find someone who is drinking copiously every week, compare their freshman pictures to junior/senior year and see if they usbemt gained at least 50lbs (being generous)
Nta but >nah man, you just wouldn't get it, nah >its thinking powder you get it >for business, yeah it's all about business, >frick let me get another bump of that shit, you want some? >like I was saying business, crypto especially >What? yeah I took a small loan from my dad but I lost that shit, so Im a self made man now >Im all in on stonks, GME is at a turning point
How to separate oneself from future hunter bidens was probably one of the better lessons I learned in college. Well that and the fact that: >I'M MOTHERFRICKING INVINCIBLE, SHOOT ME IN THE HEAD YOU PUSSY OR WE'LL HAVE WASTED ALL THIS COKE
By being young and active. When I was in college I was eating whole pizzas and binge drinking weekly, but you could literally see my abs through a shirt.
I drink most days but I Also lift 4 times a week and do about 30 hours of physical labor, eat a perfect diet. There are much worse things for your health and body than drinking. You know this because everyone who claims not to as an accomplishment/conviction is physically weak. Literally every straight edge guy I meet is <150lb, short, etc.
The secret is to realize that alcohol is just one drug, of many, and it's not even a very good one. Alcohol is just a common and "acceptable" drug. It has terrible comedowns (hangovers), is bad on your liver, causes brain damage, and usually results in weight gain.
During college, I was dropping acid and doing shrooms literally 3x a week, at minimum. I also vaped weed constantly, all day every day. Once or twice a week, I would take so many benzos and opiates that I would pass out in the middle of the floor.
But I didn't drink alcohol, went running 5 days a week, showed up for every class, and studied when I wasn't high. I remained in great shape and graduated with Honors from a top-10 university (in the U.S.), while doing massive amounts of drugs. This was 17 years ago, though.
I don't get why everyone is so obsessed with alcohol.
It's not everyday
every day* my bad grammar police
I meant they don't drink beer everyday, too much
most frat bros are skinny fat or have some muscle from casual machine only gym sessions
what shit frats are you looking at
Show me any frat where the average guy looks at least this good. They're all flabby morons who go to the gym and mostly only bench.
i was in a wrestling frat. literally at least half the frat looked like that
>i was in a wrestling frat
This doesn't exist in the US moron
it exists only in the US
I've never seen a frat bro with a decent body
be in 20s
have good genetics
play sports and gym throughout year

Nice eighth grade science there.

what frat ?
did they paddle you?

Genetics and youth. After they turn thirty they swell up like a balloon.
t. works with a bunch of washed up frat bros
They don't at all. I was in a frat and most of the guys were pudgy.

People drink alcohol in fats? At my frat everyone just snorted coke.
man a house party full of coke heads sounds like a chaotic chattering nightmare

They swallow each other cum loads
because it's about calories in-calories out
not magical fattening potions
By being young and active. When I was in college I was eating whole pizzas and binge drinking weekly, but you could literally see my abs through a shirt.
>he doesn't know
lol fricking nerd
>fatty sees a a thin person having junk food/burgers/soda/alcohol ONE (1) time
>HOW DO THEY EAT [food] AND STAY SO THIN?????????
Fats literally can't comprehend that normal people don't gorge themselves all day every day
if ur not already fat and 30 you have to be something
