would throwing in a couple curls really kill the progression that badly? this weightlifting business is confusing man

        >would throwing in a couple curls really kill the progression that badly?
Probably not, if you're eating and sleeping enough. But they might not add much at this point either if you're still building a base.

There's better strength training programs out there. I hear some good things about BBB.
I personally do PHAT, but I care more about bodybuilding

thats a lot of exercises, how long does it normally take you to finish it?

SS misses out arms brah. Do some curls too. the trick is to throw them in on the right days, don't be doing some moronic shit like curling on the same day you bench
But just keep in mind; SS is a BEGINNER program fricking key word BEGINNER. It's meant to simply set you on the right path and build a solid foundation, don't expect to come out of it with your dream end game body. Have realistic expectations

yeah i know its just meant to set me on the path, but the talk of hypertrophy training from day 1 being better than building a strength base tempts me a little lol

Just don't bulk like crazy trying to extend linear progression past its termination point. Do light cardio like rowing/swimming or bodybuilding stuff to stay conditioned. The program was built for athletes that are active, don't just be a sedentary guy that lifts heavy objects a few times per day, you will look like shit.

i run a 5k on rest days, not sure how long ill be staying on ss, but im eating 500cal above my sedentary+exercise calories

Ah but strength is a necessary component of hypertrophy bro. What kind of chest do you think you could build while maxing out at 75kg on bench?

It's important to have a base of strength before going over to hypertrophy, get strong with SS and then use that strength for more hypertrophy/volume training. There's a bigger picture here brah

literally just switch to 5x5 instead of 3x5 and youll be fine bruh. and make sure youre doing the sticky variation with the chin-ups and dips, and that you add the recommended accessory work the second youre comfortable with it

Very good point. If you work an office job sitting down at a desk 8 hours a day, maybe walk only 4000 steps going about your day and then lift and do a little cardio (this describes like 60% of gym goers), that kind of surplus is so excessive. You don't need as many calories as you probably think you need

Its a fine place to start. Do it for 6 months or so and then move on. There's a reason its called STARTING strength. You start on it, build a good foundation, and then move onto something else.

it's called starting strength as a preparation for advanced strength training

Just add pull ups and chin ups, facepulls, and some tricep stuff on the last training day of the week. Also do rows instead of power cleans.

SS is for boomers and dysgenic losers. Trust your instincts. You probably have aesthetic potential and your body is revolting against that RippedToe shit.

Take one look at Mark Rippetoe and ask yourself if that is your goal appearance.
And, no, I don't mean the pics of Roger Estep that Rippetoe covertly pushed as being him to build clout among the zoomers.

if this is him, then yeah, but that generic clint walker pic is what im aiming for

Then you need to start researching steroids, because you are going to be injecting a lot of them into your body to look like that.

NVM thought you were talking about the guy in the pic.
To look like Clint Walker you need to be 6'4, have excellent genetics, and be very athletic from a young age.

            >6'4
            8 whole inches short, frick
            >have excellent genetics
my dad has good muscle genes, brother not so much, and im still new to it so i cant say for sure just yet
            >be very athletic from a young age
it has quite literally never been more over than it is right now

dont mean that exactly ffs, i just want size. back when i went to the gym when i was losing weight all i wanted was brad pitt in fight club, max cady, uber lean physiques, but because i ended up dropping it and now im just bones and loose skin, the only thing on my mind is getting big. dont care about v tapers and all that stuff because my body structure isnt exactly great, i just want every muscle to be thick and strong
