why do you have to drink more than once a week or every other week? You cant just work all week and save one day for it? It can be something you look forward to all week and then saturday you can eat like garbage and put a nice buzz on (ideally not with beer). Sunday you can atone for your sins and work off those calories and set yourself up to not start monday hungover and recovering from bad food consumption. I do this and have an 8 pack of abs

I've had problems with alcoholism too mate. What i find helped was filling as many evening as possible with things to do and not keeping any alcohol in the house. I also started drinking a tonne of tea as a substitute. It's tough, but you can break it. I still thank God that i never fricked over my life because of it, even though i was close plenty of times.

I had to remove alcohol from the house in the beginning but I keep a few bottles around to test my self control now.
Pretty much spent my 20s depressed and drinking dangerous amounts of alcohol every night.
But now I prefer getting a good night of sleep and not feeling like shit all day.

I'd second getting a bunch of teas including decaffeinated types. It'll scratch the itch of wanting to drink something while you chill in the house.

This was me until I realised I don't actually really like my drinking buddies unless I'm drinking. We used to go to different places and pick up women but that stopped a long time ago. Now I'd rather sit at home and watch a movie or show and talk shit on IST and discord.

You can try all the little tricks in the world that people have come up with but in the end it's just a matter of self control.
You have to want to change and have the strength to stick with it. You can do it anon, I believe in you.

I was an alcoholic for 20 years. Quit drinking 3 years ago by using benzos prescribed by my doctor. Then I quit benzos by using kratom. I still take Kratom
    >inb4 injections
Listen fat boys, I was a hardcore alcoholic, puking blood, with an ulcer. I am way better off now than 3 years ago. I’ve lost 70 lbs and made major strides in my career, even moving into management.
Don’t start Kratom unless you are using it to quit drugs or alcohol. If you choose to start Kratom, I recommend white maeng da

Tapering off and having alternative drinks really helped me - alcohol free Heineken is really good if I'm wanting something more beery (half the calories, still not good for you but better). Also getting little packs of flavoured water so I can drink that at a similar pace, replaces the activity of going downstairs to the fridge for a drink.

The other thing is saying "I'm gonna completely quit" isn't the best idea because one relapse feels like an outright failure and demotivates you. Gradually reducing works better - say stop drinking on weekdays, have less over time etc. I've found the withdrawal wasn't that bad once I adjusted and it only lasted about 2 weeks so it's not as insurmountable when you finally quit. Depends on your personal drinking levels and body chemistry ofc, just my own experience there

If someone's drinking is so bad that they will have life threatening withdrawals if they stop then they need actual medical help, not just asking for advice on the internet.

By realizing that booze is a cope that you're using to dodge solving your real problems.

Alcohol is LARPing, it's make-believe. It's desperately trying to convince yourself that you're actually happy and that your problems don't exist. But it doesn't really matter how much you try to pretend that you don't care and that it doesn't affect you, truth of the matter is that it does, and it will continue to do so until you actually deal with your problems.

Whatever drives you to drink, that's the core of your issues, and that's what you must attack.
