How do you cure insomnia naturally?

I need schizo meds to fall asleep for 8 hours. Without it at most I get is 2 or 3. I feel wired all the time despite being exhausted, like a zombie.

How do I fix this shit? Everytime I decide not to take my meds I have another shitty night of sleep. are there even any long term concerns for meds like seroquel or zolpidem? I even tried shrooms to cure my insomnia because I read nuking your serotonin (Peat) cures insomnia but it didn't do shit

Do both sides of your nose work?

      Anonymous

If I breathe in through my nose really hard, one side collapses while the other doesn't. I considered sleep apnea but I don't fall asleep and then wake up gasping for air. Lot of times I can't sleep at all or get microsleep

You are not doing nearly enough cardio. I had a buddy like you until he joined the navy and they work his ass for 16 hours and he takes caffeine pills and the moment his head hits the pillow he falls asleep. If you have insomnia for no reason, you’re lazy.

I used to have extremely long shifts of manual labor like your friend and that I got insomnia after that. Before I could sleep just fine but after that job I had trouble fall asleep since

I'm in the same boat as you. Maybe 2-3 hours sleep a night. Thought my nose worked pretty well but apparently it's 90% blocked on one side 30% blocked on the other.
I suspect in-taking more air increases oxygen in your blood and makes it easier to sleep.
I have tried every OTC product under the sun and it's all snake oil. Trying the surgery next.

Yes. I'm not a fatass and my GP brushed off sleep apnea being an issue. I'm fairly certain the sleep study would just send me to an ENT next anyway.

            Anonymous

Dont matter if you are not a fatass. Sleep apnea can be anatomically based, insist on a sleep study to rule it out or monitor it. You also could have UARS. Mostly diagnosed in non fatasses with sleep issues and you will be sent to an ent but again you should get it checked out so you can gauge the success of your surgeries before and after

Interesting. But a typical symptom of UARS is waking up gasping right? I don't have that issue.

                Anonymous

I have UARS never gasped for air. My symptoms are stuffy nose (most like the cause), daytime fatigue(its extreme to the point I need adderall to get out of bed), headaches, and general moronation (I can safely say my fifth grade self is smarter than me). I believe gasping for air is more sleep apnea as you actually stop breathing, uars just makes it a workout to get air into your body as my sleep study results indicated no apneas at all. Waking up is an issue of UARS but that depends on what is causing it. UARS can have a lot of different causes. All however can be fixed with surgeries its just finding the right one which is why monitoring it will be important if you dont have insurance and pay out of pocket on a wasted surgery.

yep. I have insomnia on top of fragmented sleep. The days i do get a full 8 hours I feel worse than days I sleep for 5. Constantly exhausted, I only ever become "energetic" around the late afternoon to evening before crashing down again. If you are experiencing these symptoms get checked asap because it will ruin your life. I ignored it a couple years ago when it started and it only get worse

Have to wait to see an ENT. Most likely will be my nose. Septoplasty and turbinate reduction. I also have large tonsils that I never removed so I will ask for them to be removed as well. I only just got diagnosed this week.

I will probably ask my doctor to see a specialist as well. Is there a check you can do for enlarged tonsils?

I just checked in my mirror and they look quite big. I don't know if they are causing obstruction but for me this will all be covered under insurance and I can get it done along with my nose in the same surgery. But definitely go see an ENT and insist on a sleep test even if he says you don't need one if you have insomnia and fatigue that is a reason to get one.

you need to go get a sleep test and see an ENT now then. Insomnia, daytime fatigue, and diminished cognitive abilities are reason for a sleep study. I started showing symptoms at 17, 21 now and only now am I getting it fixed. Save yourself a couple years of agony and go. Trust me UARS or sleep apnea is not something that is nice to have. At my worst I couldn't even watch a movie my head was just mush. Last couple of years flew by and I dont remember anything.

Your body has too much ehat and/or dryness. Try drinking milk. You can even eat ice cream if you want. Salad is also good. Don't eat spicy or deep fried food, don't train hard if you want to train at all (Better take a 3 weeks break if you can). Eat turkey or pork (Pork is probably better), not chicken or beef.
Basically eat cooling and moistening foods, not warming or drying foods.

            >I don't know if this means anything but I've had white tongue for a while now, at least since my insomnia started.
Eh? That's weird. Then the hard work is not responsible and instead it's a case of too much phlegm and you should do the opposite of what I just said.
Did you gain weight? Brain fog? Frequent colds?
Strange that this would appear after heavy physical work..

A white tongue is a 100% sure sign for too much phlegm/cold, but strenuous activity burns phlegm and heats the body. So if you got it after a stint of physical work, it's strange.

You mention Zolpidem, and your experience sounds like mine. The truth is not that your meds help you sleep, it's that you can't sleep without them anymore. The whole thing about feeling wired all the time is classic benzo withdrawal symptoms, which you go through every time you stop taking them, because you have become physically addicted.
Quit taking these meds for good. You're going to feel like shit for a while because withdrawal sucks, but it's the only way to fix your problem for good.

I had this wired feeling prior to taking meds. After a a job I had which required me to stay awake even when I wanted to fall asleep fricked up my sleep pattern and now I can't "switch off". I mostly use seroquel and it acts as an antihistamine to make me drowsy

never taken zopi either, and I'm exactly the same. Melatonin seemed to worked for a few years, but now has no effect what so ever. Running off 2 - 4 hours sleep a night is driving me nutty.

          Anonymous

Same here. Melatonin got so bad, that I woke up after the half life wore off, so after 3 to 4 hours I've been awake and couldn't fall back asleep.

Also, melatonin has to get dosed below 0.3mg, everything is overkill and against the dose you naturally produce anyway.

Most of this thread is shit advice. Take meds if you need to but not for sleep. Do NOT take melatonin. That will make it worse in the long run if better at the beginning at all. One guy suggested working yourself to sleep; that's not a long term solution either.
Basically just 1, have a comfortable bed. 2, go to bed early enough.
If your beds not comfortable you won't sleep. If your ENVIRONMENT isn't comfortable you won't sleep. Give yourself plenty of head room to make sure your actual sleep time aligns with when you're in actual rem sleep

I used to need >150mg of benadryl to fall asleep as a kid. I've been on every sleep medication legal in the US. The only ones that helped short term were temazepam and sonata. My stack has always included valerian root, magnesium, and sublingual melatonin. Lemon balm, chamomille extract, L-theanine, L-tryptophan, and kava can be helpful too but never worked consistently for me. Check if you have restless legs. I've had two sleep tests that both just showed me moving constantly, so I take gabapentin and propranolol too. I take unisom on top of these as a last resort but there are nights when 15+ pills cant make me fall asleep.

had insomia when i was younger, but have mostly grown out / no longer care about it. tried all the medication and chemical ways to sleep. problem is long term you habituate to them and the issue isnt fixed. What has worked for me is to set myself up in a way that gives me the potential for sleep to happen ( exercise enough, avoid coffee after lunch, make sure my bedroom is cool enough, read a bool instead of phone when in bed) and then stop worrying about whether i've got or am going to get enough sleep. theres a big part of insomnia which is psychological. you notice that you aren't going to sleep, and then worry that your not getting enough sleep. you can easily work yourself up lying on bed and lay their wired & awake. i used to rage at every little sound in my house, could feel my heartrate rise as i heard someone use the bathroom late at night. literal teeth grinding anger and worry about being tired at work, which of course would stop me from sleeping. now what i do is try to keep consistent with the time i wake up, rather than my bedtime and trust that i'll fall asleep at a time to sleep enough for my bodies needs. seems to work pretty well for me. Also the period of my life where i slept the best was on a 3 month hike across my country. Being outside all day, walking all day with a pack, being exposed to sunset & sunrise. Slept like a baby.

I'm schizo too. Take clozapine and amisulpride. Without the clozapine I don't sleep for days. Feels too weak to sleep, I know the feeling. The answer is Wim Hof's breathing method. On about day 3 or 4 of no sleep, do some breathing and a wave of good health will come over you and you will be out. It's hard work but I promise it works. Here's a video where he guides you through it.

who cares about that grifter and his little parlour trick of starving your brain out of oxygen
just breathe out longer than you breathe in, which activates your parasympathicus and calms you down
stress, sympathetic activation, histamin, cortisol, blue light, irregular breathing, high blood pressure/heart rate -> bad sleep

He's no grifter. The method charges up your blood with oxygen. Leads to amazing things. I used to do it for hours a day and magically ended up with doms in my calves. Don't knock it till you've tried it.

yeah ok moron you just proved u aint got a clue
hyperventialting for prolonged times depletes your blood of CO2, oversaturating everything with O2
your brain has a high O2 demand, hypoxia = dead neurons
presence of CO2 in your blood is the signal your body uses to tell u "homie u gotta breathe"
very low CO2 -> absense of signal to breathe -> body goes into panic mode (cue clips of half naked dimwits in the snow crying of ecstasy after having paid to learn hyperventilating for $1500 and Joe Rogaine going "dude woah, monkeys") -> loss of braincells -> trauma based bonding with cult leader

At this point, you are dependent on the meds so there is probably just no way to not get bad sleep for a while if you come of them. How long that while is depends on you. I used to take benzos for sleep. When I stopped, it was 3 months before I got somewhat normal sleep again. It actually never went back to normal completely but sort of normal was about 3 months. Those 3 months were hell. I started a routine of daily 5-10 mi walks at that time and that’s basically what helps now.

you might have adhd if your mind races for an hour or two after going to bed and you cant stop fidgeting. We have shifted circadian rythmns, it sucks, I end up getting no sleep at all some nights. inb4 edgy normie opinion about adhd not real etc, heard it all before.

vitamin D supplementation can cause insomnia in some cases
its due to depletion of magnesium and other factors
been eating lots of fish + D3 + K2 recently and likely got bone/back pain + insomnia from it

Find the real cause of your insomnia.
None of those sleep hacks (routine shit, ingestion of garbage) actually work if the thing causing your sleep to be disrupted is not solved. Those only work for normies who have a disrupted sleep schedule and think they have insomnia when they really just suffer from mental illnesses. If you've been sleep deprived for 3 fricking months - it is fricking hell. My insomnia stems from my gut.

I get 0-2 hours of restful sleep a night except unlike you I dont have access to schizo pills.
eh you get used to it, like after a year straight of laying in bed waiting to die, your body just allows it.

guess you have to ask yourself it its worth it to live like this for the rest of your life, because it will never get better. I've had this for 6 years and it only has gotten worse.
