measure yourself your progress, it's just the negative reciprocal of how far you can see in meters. do it in low light though as when your pupils are small (i.e. during the day time or in a well lit room) it can enhance focus and give you a false reading. you will want to measure when your pupils are large. just like with camera aperture, you can have a narrower focus plane with a larger aperture. If you can shoot small enough aperture i.e. small pupil, everything will be in focus.
