How good are pullovers actually?

I see so many people at my gym do this, should I add it to my pull routine somehow? I would ideally want to keep it to only 5 exercises.

Current pull routine:
Pullups
Seated Row
Face pulls
Cable lat raise
Biceps

for the best version for these you need to hinge at the elbow. Cross your arms and move your elbows up and down in unison.

most gyms dont have pullover machines which are incredible for the lats but they do exist

Would rather do with dumbbell if your shoulders can take it. Cable pullover is nice but stretch isn't that good.

Really helped with my muscle ups. Makes you fly over the bar

What are you guys' one rep maxes for this? Multiple rep max is fine but only if less than 6 reps. Recently hit 190 for a 1 rep max a couple of weeks ago. Wondering where other anon are at with this.

I can almost do the whole stack (~110lbs) for a 3x10, took me about 4 months, I think these are fairly easy to progress when you get your form right

Why tf are you doing 1RM on a cable exercise

I routinely do one rep maxes on literally every exercise I do to keep track of strength increases over time. Then I log them in a spreadsheet. Sometimes I'll go back and compare my 1 rep maxes (or estimated one rep maxes) to see how far I've come over a particular period of time to see if I'm still on track or if I've stalled

I don’t like dumbbell pullovers because you lose all the tension at the top of the movement. Cable pullover maintains consistent tension through the entire movement.

Cable Pullovers are like the standing version of a DB pullover. Both work the chest and lats, if done at the correct speed and range.

The studies have proven dumbbell pullover is a chest exercise and cable pullover is a back exercise. This was obvious if you just felt your muscles but it's been proven.

I'm new to lifting, but aren't those called push downs? Pull overs are performed with a dumbbell on a bench, where you move it over your head and below.

I think you’re confusing it with tricep push downs

you can see in the picture that he is performing a similar movement to the dumb bell pullover. push downs target the triceps and require elbow extension

I should have said that the triceps only provide stabilization in pullovers, and the elbow joint remains in one position throughout the movement. in tricep pushdowns, you extend the elbows fully through their full range of motion

how is everyone confused by what muscles it works? This is nothing more than a pull up but with your arms straight out.

Basic muscle confusion. If I don't know what I'm working then surely it'll all grow.

I usually use the lat pulldown bar to do these? Am I fricking up by not using the EZ bar or rope?

They're nice. I like the feeling of hitting the lats. I find cross-bench pullovers to be nice.
