How heavy is an ez bar? I tried looking it up but everything jsut says "it depends on the brand".

How heavy is an ez bar? I tried looking it up but everything jsut says "it depends on the brand". They aren't labeled in my gym but I don't know how much I'm curling when I load 25's on it 🙁
Also, how heavy are smith machine bars?

My gyms curl bar is 26.5 pounds but it doesn’t look like the one you posted. Ask at the front desk they might be able to check for you.
    >smith machine bar
IDK I wouldn’t count it tbh. I don’t think it really matters. It’s like counting the weight of the handles on pec fly

Why can I do like 120 lbs on pec fly when I can only do 40's on dumbell flys? Is the machine lying to me? Are dumbell handles lighter than pec fly handles?

Machine =/= freeweights. The pullies in the machine make it so you can lift way more weight for the same movement. It's the same amount of stimulation even if the numbers are different

This. Your body does not know numbers, only stimulus. Use the one you prefer. Some pec deck machines are great and some feel like shit.

It’s not a lie it’s just a different and harder lift. The blocks weigh 120 pounds but the design of the machine means you’re not fighting against physics as hard.

Machines have pulleys, pulleys have mechanical advantage. Depending on how many pulleys, it could half or make the weight 1/4 what you think it is.

Its hilarious. My 65 yar old mom was like, i do 70lbs in the tricep machine. I'm like ok, try that on my machine. She couldn't budge it. She was doing 1/4 of 70lbs.

Why is this allowed? Why even list weights at that point?

Hmmmm I wonder if they've invented such a thing

Yeah, lemme just pull my certified/calibrated scale out of my gym bag each time I lift.

So users can measure their progress. If you have to use a different machine, adjust accordingly.

does your gym not have a scale you can use to weigh yourself? weigh yourself holding the bar and subtract it....

Weight matters to know how you can compare your lifts, or compare against prior lifts.

Your olympic ez curl bar should be between 15-35lbs. Probably around 25lbs.

Machines are good to build a base level of strength before moving on to advanced free weight stuff. That's what I did when I first started. I see too many people jump into free weight exercises with no base level strength to control the exercise or keep proper form. They all end up hurting themselves.

very true. machines basically force good form, clear up the free weights for advanced lifters,

i do barbell squats, incline, bench and that's it basically. i use dbs and machines for everything else. if it's creating tension it's working

Normally 25 pounds. Just assume its 25 pounds for the bar and collars. You'll have different numbers on the ez bar curl and barbell curl anyways

I agree. I also prefer machines for many isolation movements.

If you can't find any information, then buy a luggage scale and just weigh the bar before you use it.

standard ez curl bar is 15lbs, they go heavier though. you could always just use the scale your gym should have and weight it lol
