The guy who ‘discovered’ it said he made it up. It’s not that the characteristics aren’t real, it’s that they’re not a’disease’ nor are they something that requires prescription meth. You can medicalize any set of personality characteristics if you want to and that’s exactly what the APA has been doing for a long time, though it’s been much worse in recent years
        In the past:
        >your shy
        >your energetic and undisciplined
        Now
        >youre on the spectrum you have a disease
        >you have adhd you need expensive drugs for life

Adhd isnt just "being lazy" as most of the society perceived it and seemed to only care about till now, its poor working memory, poor motor skills, poor emotional regulation, inertia and other disabling characteristics. People with adhd have smaller structures in certain parts of the brain. They shouldnt for example drive a car if they arent properly medicated, depending on the severity of their condition. Which makes me annoyed with how it isnt taken seriously and how suddenly everyone has 'a little adhd' because they are overwhelmed with everyday tasks and watch too much tiktok these days. I recommend dr Russel Barkley on youtube if you care about a credible source on the topic.

Third worlders dont believe in adhd. And some conspiracy theorist tier americans/europoors. That explains the replies

Can confirm it as a Europoorean. In my country when you become an adult adhd suddenly disappears. Or you have to pay fat bucks if you want to manage it properly because the medication is not refunded, and you are especially fricked when you didnt have a diagnosis as a child, because people will look at you suspiciously when your medical history of the disorder is very recent. Doesnt matter that until now i had trouble with following conversations or auditory instructions, or get easily stuck in my train of thoughts instead of paying attention to my surroundings, i was a quiet kid so noone cared because i wasnt causing trouble at school. My dad wasnt diagnosed or medicated and did well academically but still addressed a lot of issues he couldnt overcome, like his bad working memory and unability to follow conversations or organising anything without visual reminders lol. Then again in US it is apparently overdiagnosed/overmedicated for naughty children so i could in a way understand where that general attitude is coming from.

my adhd growing up was terrible. i'd say it's more characterized by distractability. all the shit you described can be worked on and is pretty much gone by adulthood. you'll still be prone to impulsiveness and distractability.
the problem is children are medicated instead of taught self-discipline. you should definitely be capable of driving, and you operate better under (interesting) stress.
        neuroplasticity prevails.
i've never had an issue in high stress jobs that are fast-paced or high stakes. neuro-normal people tend to crumple where adhd folk thrive.

          >all the shit you described can be worked on and is pretty much gone by adulthood
It can be worked on to a degree, but it is not sufficient enough for todays standards of living imo. I didnt get medicated as a child and it didnt make me "grow" better memory, lesser distractability or emotional regulation. I learned how to cope or walk around the issues with some organisation skills and constantly stressing about not fricking things up but it turns out it wasnt sustainable for a long time. Im 31 now and started medication recently which made functioning feel almost effortless instead of having to put extra energy to keep up with others, that is while the medication works before the crash. Not to mention it has some side effects and because of that i use it only if necessary. I feel like being an adult allowed me to recognise my limits and work with them but not feeling like i have to meet someones expectations at the expense of driving myself to an early grave.

Also anegdotal but to anyone having trouble with access to medication for whatever reason or having crazy workshifts affecting your executive function - i keep phenylpiracetam as a back up and it works quite well and doesnt raise blood pressure like methylphenidate in my case. Apparently tolerance raises quickly when you use it so i go with a minimal dose for a few days in a row and it seems to work fine so far.

I was wondering if you could elaborate on not having issues during your job? Do you make small and seemingly odd mistakes at work despite knowing how to do the job overall? Did you make them when you were younger?

C'mon now. ADHD may be real, but it's way overdiagnosticed and it's basically a way to shortcut discipline for a lot of people.
    >oh yeah man I can't do anything if I don't have my prescription like it's life changing bro
yeah that's medical grade amphetamin for you.
Might as well just sell it without script.
