The smaller you are, the easier calisthenics are. I've been fat and small. Trust me. Chin-ups over 200lbs are no joke. 135lbs is like baby mode. Though my tendons are too fricked to do them now.
It is not that most men just do nothing past watch tv and working
they say they never could do a Pull-up but Pull-ups are pretty easy to learn as long as your under 220lbs and try for more then a week
I can dp 12 with 10 kg. Bw 84.
Chest supported rows 20 x 32.5 kg each. I dunno but k feel like the rows are good but i dunno if any is better than the other
People are generally extremely critical of pullup/chinup form so regardless of your rep # if you are just banging out quick half reps you won't really impress anyone (unless you do 50+ or something). If you can do 10 at 5 second rep cadence from a dead hang to a pause at the top with your chin over the bar and low kipping, people will be impressed because it's so rare to see.
People here would obviously critique anything other than non perfect form but do a bunch of shitty half reps in front of normal people and they’d be impressed
>If you can do 10 at 5 second rep cadence from a dead hang to a pause at the top with your chin over the bar and low kipping, people will be impressed because it's so rare to see.
you must be lying
i can do this very easily at 80kg
been lifting for around 7months, couldnt do 1 pullup when i started, but it increases fast.
I've been critiqued for the following >Skelly >Skinny >Skinny fat >Dyel
Escaped skellymode with the body I want (still working on it)
Dwelling on the opinions of ISTizens does you no good.
Participate in threads but disregard responses.
1 pull up for 90%
11 for 99%
The only reason I'd say 11 is because 10 is a nice round number, so realistically anyone doing pull ups as part of their routine is doing sets of 10.
It all depends on height. You can counter the weight argument by saying oh well you shouldn't be so heavy but even when very low bodyfat/looking very skinny it's physically impossible for a tall person to do pullups very well.
I pull out the Brian Shaw can only do 5 pullups every time I see this thread and it shuts all the skinny manlets right up.
>women can do pull ups
No, they cannot. One of the test to become a police in my country is reach 12 pull ups. Anything less or bad form and you are out. Women got their test changed to hanging from the bar 1 minute
I can do 25+ strict full rom.
Pull ups have been my main lift for years and I do calisthenics only as a 150lbs manlet. My arms and lats aren't even that big, at that point it's mostly endurance.
I can't do a pull-up.
Why shouldn't I do sets of 30 on an assisted pull-up machine until I can do 30 real ones?
If someone has never done bench no one tells them to do 3 plate negs until they can bench 3 plate.
But for pull-ups the standard advice is doing negs and then small amounts until at some point you can do lots more.
>Why shouldn't I do sets of 30 on an assisted pull-up machine until I can do 30 real ones?
you can but a lot of people looking into pullups don't have access to assisted pull-up machines
You can absolutely do it. >t. Did it myself
Took me roughly 3 months to go from -25kg assisted for 8 reps, to now being able to do 2 free form pull ups and -10kg assisted for 8reps (machine doesn’t go lower than that)
When I start lifting I could barely do a single pull-up and I started on the assisted machine. Worked great. Now I do 3x10 weighted at +10kg.
Everything we know about lifting, strength gains and progressive overload says that an assisted machine should be better than negatives.
Don't know why you'd do sets of 30 though. Get yourself to 3x8 or, at most 3x12 on the assisted then swap to normal.
Hot take: negatives are a huge meme if you can't do any pullups
In order of usefuleness: scapular pullups>resistance band pullups>australian pullups>negatives
This is disregarding all machines and other useful accessories such as pullovers, reverse curls, face pulls and so on
>be me >do calisthenics for a year already >be very serious and dedicated to it >read this thread >realize I mog 100% of the thread >regular, weighted, max reps, muscle-ups, you name it >while looking DYEL
I'm not sure if I made it
>in the army bootcamp >whole group at the gym for some strength tests >afterwards we do a lighthearted pull up competition >do 18 with pretty good form >next best had like 10 >lieutenant in charge of us joins in >starts doing those kipping pull ups >does 19 >comes to me looking all smug and said something like "well... maybe next time"
Most guys I talk with have said they can't even do a single pullup. Was at a park walking with 2 friends and there was a pullup bar, I did about 5 and they acted like I just did some superhuman feat
i also get a chest pump (sometimes soreness) from pullups
i think for some people their build/muscle attachments makes their chest more involved in stabilization during that movement
This is normal. I don't get chest pumps from pull-ups, but if I do pull-ups after chest day, I can definitely feel it in my chest, it goes away after the first set though.
Why can i do 10 chin ups (with palms facing each other) but i can't do more than 3-4 wide arm pull ups (palms facing away)?
How can i improve this?
Palms facing each other is called neutral grip. Your biceps and teres major is stronger than your Lats, that's why you can do more. Just keep doing regular pull-ups to build up your lats. Do 10 reps on an assisted machine if you need to.
>If you can do 10 strict ones you're probably mog 99.9% of other men.
I can't do more than 20 and I'm a lanklet. Pullups get harder the bigger you are, strongmen and terrible at them.
Go to any gym and you'll notice barely anyone does them because they can't
I've trained 3 months to do pull-ups and can do 2. Laugh all you want but I am better than probably 90% of men because doing a pull-up is unironically hard without training
i can do 23 with decent form
just did a muscle up for the first time yesterday
then did four more but only as singles with no negative, the negative scares me, feels like im gonna tear my shoulder
i can do +100 lbs pullup for two
>Why can i do 10 chin ups (with palms facing each other) but i can't do more than 3-4 wide arm pull ups (palms facing away)?
Because you're activating your biceps way more supinated, making it easier to pull >How can i improve this?
Do more regular pull ups, or even wide grip pull ups to hit your back muscles
I can do one a day. I've already trained my back today but I'm gonna go make one right now.
Ok I did it.
Also I'm low fat, I just have no strength.
I hope I'll get better at them with time, but I don't train very seriously.
Probably only 2 pull-ups to mog 90% of men and maybe 8 to mog 99%
How many to mog 90% of this board? I can do 11.
1
>I can do 11.
So can I, and I'm dyel who started to put in effort 6 months ago.
based
Over 80% of this board is sub-6 feet, so it's a shit metric.
I can do 16 and I’m a twink dyel
Not sure what to make of this
Men start at 200lbs
I’m 155

100% correct. They also do GOMAD.
The smaller you are, the easier calisthenics are. I've been fat and small. Trust me. Chin-ups over 200lbs are no joke. 135lbs is like baby mode. Though my tendons are too fricked to do them now.
If you gain weight, your progressive overload on pull ups should be that you maintain your reps. If not, you're over-bulking.
A 130 pound person may have less lower body mass to deal with, but they also have much smaller arms, lats and muscle to assist them with the movement.
If a 200 pound dude can bench 315 for reps, why is pulling up 200 pounds for reps so hard?
With a plate straped around my waist I weigh 215 and can still rep 10. Bw only 15 because I don't train endurance I guess.
>why does being small and skinny make it easy to do pull-ups?
c'mon dude
Lol probably true. The average person is pathetic
Probably true or pretty fricking close. A lot of people can’t do them because they don’t know how either though
In muttmerica? Yes. In Europe? I'd say 8 for 90% and 15 for 99%
1 to mog 90% of men, probably like 10 to mog 99% of men
I hate that this is true. I can do 6 and i'm a weak skeleton with a fat belly.
Is it the microplastics? Humanity is fricking doomed.
It is not that most men just do nothing past watch tv and working
they say they never could do a Pull-up but Pull-ups are pretty easy to learn as long as your under 220lbs and try for more then a week
I'd say 3, but I'm not from Fatmerica
I can do 7 muscle ups. I mog over 99% of men
true. 1 muscle up to mog 98%
on rings?
you mog 99 % of 99 % bro
7 muscle ups is really nice
how did you learn them?
Black person please. you are average at best
The "average male lifter" can't do a single one, because the average male lifter doesn't train muscle ups.
i dont train particularly muscle ups but can do nevertheless. just wanted to try and did it easily
I can do 70kg on the assisted pull up machine.
I can do 90kg on the asspull machine
>tfw max out assisted pulled up machine
I kneel
picrel is not "pull ups" that's "chin ups"
You are wrong, pic rel is a "Black person"
A supinated pull up is still a pull up, anon.
Only the military considers "supinated pullups" a thing.
Probably some very high ranking individual confused the two at some point Joe Biden-style and rather than him being wrong, everyone else was wrong.
Cope. Chin up does not equal Pull up
I can dp 12 with 10 kg. Bw 84.

Found the dyel. I swear every time the police form comes up is a dyel

Fricking this, high volume, fast reps slimcels got btfo.

no you can't
someone post that webm of some homosexual celebrity on a talkshow doing 10 half-assed pullups for the normacattle to be impressed

whitepill threads were pretty good until the digitsgays turned them into a pointless circlejerk but yeah good advice tbf
Seeing that 50% ofen can even do one, I'd say 5 for 90%, 15 for 99%, 25 for 99.9%
>90%
1
>99%
Anything above 15
1 pull up for 90%
11 for 99%
The only reason I'd say 11 is because 10 is a nice round number, so realistically anyone doing pull ups as part of their routine is doing sets of 10.
I do 5x5 weighted pull ups because that was the funny number from 2013 IST and it's been stuck in my brain ever since
Also doing sets of 20+ got really boring
Try fixing your rom and doing harder variations.
>Harder variations
Isn't adding weight a harder variation?
Please understand I am moronic
It all depends on height. You can counter the weight argument by saying oh well you shouldn't be so heavy but even when very low bodyfat/looking very skinny it's physically impossible for a tall person to do pullups very well.

if you can pull +150kg with your bodyweight included you're a mogger. women can do pullups it's not impressive doing reps
The only time I see chicks doing pull ups is in video, I've never seen a woman doing pull ups without a band IRL.
yes that's true. although i've seen it irl it's only a few reps. as a man if you're doing bodyweight pullups you're never gonna make it
Who the frick is putting 330 on the belt??
I put on 70 and feel like a beast and everyone mires
(for a set of five pullups)
>women can do pull ups
No, they cannot. One of the test to become a police in my country is reach 12 pull ups. Anything less or bad form and you are out. Women got their test changed to hanging from the bar 1 minute
At least 20
>talks about pull-ups
>image in the OP shows a chin-up
I get 10 neutral grip pull-ups
I mog this entire board I can do 18 strict full rom. Seethe and cope, dials.
I can do 25+ strict full rom.
Pull ups have been my main lift for years and I do calisthenics only as a 150lbs manlet. My arms and lats aren't even that big, at that point it's mostly endurance.
depends on body weight and arm length. you are under 170 and have short arms pull ups are a joke. Hard mode is being over 190 with long arms.

I can't do a pull-up.

get to work

i weight 105kilograms and my max is 3 pull-ups (overhand grip). havent tried but can probably do 4 or 5 chin-ups
that's pretty impressive tbf
Trick question, no matter how many pullups you can do it wont mog anyone. At least do weighted pullup 1rm
I'd say 5 to mog 90% and 15 to mog 99%
>in the army bootcamp

pretty sure they dont allow kipping in the military
that guy was definitely trolling you and it was a high quality troll at that
when i was in the army at 190lbs i could do 21 strict pull ups unbroken. now at 260 i can do about 3/4 of one.
I’m 6’4 87kg, my sets look like this actually giving 100% effort
1. 10 reps
2. 10 reps
3. 8 reps
4. 7 reps
5. 7 reps
Is it copium to think my numbers are bad because I have long ass arms? How do I progress to 5x10 and then add weight are there any tricks?
How long are you resting between sets?
Also, don't give us fake modesty, you know those numbers are good
I can do 7-8 strict pull-ups with 45lbs added, probably 15 rest/pause with bodyweight at 170lbs
I can do 15 chin ups as a dyel
id rape you
>the bar moving around that much
>from just a twink using it for the intended purpose
shit form.
heels face the floor
put some clothes on, you little homosexual
>Train only pull ups
>neglect everything else

Yup. Just like you can squat big and be a dyel.
Those are chin ups...
he calls them chin ups.
but yeah, this is a pull up thread and chin ups are gay; unless you're doing em for the bis, then they're bi.
Pretty good mate. I can do 15 neutral using rings, but my form is worse than yours
you look like you literally only train your back and you still have shit numbers
Hank Hill ass deluxe
This is one of those few times I think someone should do starting strength
zero ass
Most guys I talk with have said they can't even do a single pullup. Was at a park walking with 2 friends and there was a pullup bar, I did about 5 and they acted like I just did some superhuman feat
I can do about 10 at 6' 179lbs and I'd probably be considered dyel by everyone on here, so probably a lot.
I replaced deadlifts at the start of my back day yesterday with pullups, and for some reason my chest is sore today from it, like right at my armpit
i also get a chest pump (sometimes soreness) from pullups
i think for some people their build/muscle attachments makes their chest more involved in stabilization during that movement
I don't even get chest soreness from my chest days anymore though which is why this is especially weird.
This is normal. I don't get chest pumps from pull-ups, but if I do pull-ups after chest day, I can definitely feel it in my chest, it goes away after the first set though.

I can do 12 at 220lbs
At that weight I'd argue that you mog 99.99% assuming you have good form
I did these a while back. Quite a bit stronger with them now.
I train pull ups at the gym every time. I have been to many gyms and I have never seen another person truly train pull ups.
If you can do 10 strict ones you're probably mog 99.9% of other men.
Wonderful form
strict means deadhang
>If you can do 10 strict ones you're probably mog 99.9% of other men.
I can't do more than 20 and I'm a lanklet. Pullups get harder the bigger you are, strongmen and terrible at them.
>I can't
Can do. I am also moronic.
I think everyone arguing over how many pull-ups they can do is stupid (like most arguments on fit)
I can do 15 pull-ups, but any strongman could break me in half like a twig, even though he can't do more than 2.
It all depends on what you're training for.
I can do 19 or 20 with good form. Then maybe one more before I can't even lift myself half way up
Go to any gym and you'll notice barely anyone does them because they can't
I've trained 3 months to do pull-ups and can do 2. Laugh all you want but I am better than probably 90% of men because doing a pull-up is unironically hard without training
>3 months

"grease the grooves" anon
cant do pullups cause tendonitis but i can do 15 chinups. do i still mog?
i can do 23 with decent form
just did a muscle up for the first time yesterday
then did four more but only as singles with no negative, the negative scares me, feels like im gonna tear my shoulder
i can do +100 lbs pullup for two
despite all that i look dyel as frick lmao
probably because you weigh 140 lbs, imagine a 240 lbs guy doing 2 pullups, he's not going to look big
im 190 lbs and 6'
Why can i do 10 chin ups (with palms facing each other) but i can't do more than 3-4 wide arm pull ups (palms facing away)?
How can i improve this?
>Why can i do 10 chin ups (with palms facing each other) but i can't do more than 3-4 wide arm pull ups (palms facing away)?
Because you're activating your biceps way more supinated, making it easier to pull
>How can i improve this?
Do more regular pull ups, or even wide grip pull ups to hit your back muscles
Thanks anons yes my back (and shoulders and everything else) is really weak as i'm rehabbing after lots of injuries. Will just keep at it.
probably because your upper back is weaker relative to your biceps
palms away works more upper back, palms facing each other (neutral grip) works more biceps
I do sets of 8 going from dead hang to touching chest with zero kipping. If you skimp out on form at all it doesn't count.
>kid at gym asking me all my PRs
>starts making fun of me for doing fewer pullups than him
gen alpha is alright
I'm 6'3", 185 pounds and do 15 full ROM pull-ups on a good day. 12 on a normal day. 10 if I'm tired.
I do 7 'cos I was getting too big for what I'm going for
I'd say 10-12 weighted to mog 99
I'm 260-265 and I can do 10
I can do one a day. I've already trained my back today but I'm gonna go make one right now.
Ok I did it.
Also I'm low fat, I just have no strength.
I hope I'll get better at them with time, but I don't train very seriously.
I can do 8 with a 45 lb plate at 205
Anybody know why the frick I can do 20kg pull ups but not more than 8
it's my one rep max and I usually fatigue at around 3 bw pull ups
