How much weight did you start with at the beginning?
I can't lift anywhere close to what a beginner is supposed to lift on the common exercises. Am I just incredibly weak?

I couldn't bench press the bar when I started.
I couldn't lift the bar when I started either. I went with my buddy so he could show me how to use the gym and he thought I was joking around pretending I couldn't lift it :/
Let me guess, you were a little kid when you started, or are a woman?
i would say so yeah. its been 12 years so i literally just dont remember but my first bench was between 40kg - 60kg. i was around ~55kg bodyweight so if you cant lift "anywhere close" to 47kg i'd say you are incredibly weak. again i was around 55kg, i wasnt a big guy. i was a goblin playing video games 13 hours a day
You were 55kg and could immediately lift your own bodyweight or even more? Man that shit is demoralizing. I weight about 70kg and can lift around 25kg for 8 - 10 reps
It doesn't matter where you start, but where you end up. I couldn't even lift the oly bar lmao and now I can rep 2 pl8, after a year of consistent lifting and bulking
dont worry breh noob gainz happen fast, you can get to 1pl8 quick even without a super strict program
10kg for 10 reps
I started with 70kg
I was around 58-60kg when I started and could only lift the bar on first day, getting to 1pl8 took me around 7-8 months
I started with 85lbs/38.5kg. I got pretty stuck at 130 lbs/59kg for almost 2 months when I was first lifting. Just couldn't get past that 1 pl8 barrier.
I'm definitely not super strong now, 1.5ish years in. I can lift a little over 2 pl8 (240lb/109kg is my max working weight for my 5 rm) but I don't really care that much about pushing that number much higher. I'm pretty happy where I am. It'll get higher over time but I'm not in a rush.
I could barely bench the bar the first time I tried but I think I was like 9 years old.
Been lifting for 6 years, have barely gained any strength at all.
Started at 14, was able to do 195lb/88kg, today at 20, can only do 270 lb/122 kg.
I'm 65 lbs lighter than I was then though, 232 > 166, same height 6'0".
Based never give up. You'll get your strength in your 30's
>I'm 65 lbs lighter than I was then though, 232 > 166
holy based
I started lifting at 13 and my bench progression went like this
>13 years old
85lb 1rm
>14 years old
265 1rm
>15 years old
315 1rm
>16 years old
350 1rm
>17 years old
385 1rm
>18 years old
405 1rm
I don't remember my exact body weight but I was about 180lbs at 13 and I'm currently 240lbs at 18
Empty bar on everything, 15 kg bar on OHP. I was a little skinny fat b***h
very very sedentary people get severe muscle atrophy almost as bad as having limb in cast. even stuff like carrying grocceries few floors upstairs, making laundry with your hands or lifting 10lbs boxes at work makes big difference.
I could bench about 100lbs for 5 as a complete skeleton high schooler. Still managed to hit 3pl8 in college. Don’t worry about where you start. The human body has a tremendous capacity to change when subjected to the right conditions
Your image makes no sense. You need the persons bodyweight for context.
empty bar, going up 5lbs each workout for the first half year or so. 5x5 too, didn't even get close to failure for weeks. was nice for learning form tho
what the frick is kg
it's short for keg, like a keg of beer, a bit like the galleon. europoors use that as a substitute for measuring weight. it comes out as about 4 lbs in a keg
killer goy
I was doing lmao1pl8 when I started and quickly moved up to about 45+25 each side.
In about 9 months I was doing lmao2pl8! for reps.
I think most people on the site are either LARPing or it is just incredibly biased towards tryhards because most normal people in the gym wouldn't even get the idea to record their numbers on some autistic website.
You don't remember what you started out benching?
45kgx2 was my first session
next session did 55x2 but got stuck at 65kg for sets of 5 for ages. Can do 152.5 now.
So youre telling me that an obese lard who lives a sedentary lifestyle who struggles standing up, picking things up off the ground, or walking up a flight of stairs can bench 220lbs?
Its the opposite side of the same coin as BMI which doesnt take into account people who have a very active lifestyle can be considered "obese" just by weight alone. I guess this time its just being "strong" by weight alone.
>So youre telling me that an obese lard who lives a sedentary lifestyle who struggles standing up, picking things up off the ground, or walking up a flight of stairs can bench 220lbs?
Yes. Fat people are living life with a 150lb weighted vest everywhere they go. Also weight matters a lot in lifting leverages and ROM, just look at how fat powerlifters bench and how skinny people bench.
Those strength standards are complete cancer. They demotivate anyone outside the average and they do nothing for those who are average.
The only relevant thing is whether you're progressing over time compared to your old self.
I dont have friends so I dont know what my max bench is
>How much weight did you start with at the beginning?
I literally wasnt able to lift the bar, that was a year and a half ago.
Now i can do 80kg for 2 reps.
