It's completely possible for a newbie. I was fat as frick when I started lifting in high school and I cut about 25 lbs over a year, while my strength went up significantly (my bench went from 30kg to 100kg) and I got visibly more muscular.

still didn't manage to get rid of the love handles, I had the same problem with going from skinny fat, the last stretch to get rid of them is brutal
there are pictures of me as a 9-10 year old skeleton kid clearly at ~10% body fat and I still have love handles - that’s always gonna be my genetic curse
it’s not gonna stop me from working out. i’ve got another 7 months to slow bulk and 4 months to cut before next summer. it takes time to escape skinnyfat
what a weird thing to make up, you definitely were not skinnyfat with love handles at 10% BF as a 9-10 year old. you definitely have wide hips, but you can see the skinnyfat there now too.

I was as thin as a rail (not skinnyfat), other than love handles. It would be a weird thing to make up. It’s not like I’m denying I have them now. Or use them as an excuse to avoid anything.
I just really doubt it, I've seen plenty of people here mistaken wide hips for love handles.
No one in their right mind will bash your progress. It's steady, it's good. But there are plenty of pics on the net with guys at 8-10% bf, visible unflexed abs, and they have love handles anyway. I have a friend who's like that, he does HIIT cardio every single day. Perhaps there is more to love handles than just exercise.
I wouldn't be surprised if you are ultimately unable to get rid of them.

Salads, fruits and veg, meat, weights, and walking.
As someone who was skinny fat, cut immediately, ignore body comp recomp tards I can guarantee you aren't going to diet properly to make it work. Looking skinny will be an immediate improvement over being skinny fat instead of being a pudgy frick for another year.
Cut and lift, try one meal a day and fasting.
I'm in the skinnyfat category and just hit 30. Got tired of lazing around and feeling like shit after I got medded out of the army so I recently decided to get my life together and I'm noticing some improvements with the following;
>more cardio, light jog around my neighborhood followed by walking
>less drug/alcohol use, I only drink alcohol straight and on the weekends, only smoke weed if I don't drink that weekend and at most once a week
>quitting soda which is probably the hardest for me. I've been replacing it with teas and slowly cutting the sugar from those as well as chugging a bunch of water whenever I find myself craving a soda
>home cooked meals only, increased protein
>calisthenics every day during my lunch break
I've never had much desire to be strong but every since I got married and couldn't princess carry my wife to the hotel room I've been lifting weights and trying to bulk up. I would rather tone up first before I start doing heavy lifting so I'm sticking with body weight and arms.
