You can't use momentum(yes even people experienced to the movement use a little unintentionally) or stabilizers from the lower body or core. Also the path is slightly different depending on whether you use a back rest or not. As for dumbells? The same, path for DB is more to the side than in front of you.
How are you gonna progressively overload or increase the weight? You gonna wear a goofy vest and use the wall as support? This is not a suitable replacement, only some bodyweight reps added for variety or more volume.
You really think your natural muscle gain will be nearly enough for progression? Unless you are putting on fat and not muscle. I know this is bait but please have a nice day.

I specifically said that you could do both, just not the same as a replacement for a compound lift. I'll stick to seated DB and Arnold press. Have fun with barely doing one rep with the vest lol.

I'm sure he will have fun moggin 90% of IST (who doesn't consistently lift)
>50% of the ROM
You can easily increase ROM >300% of the injury rate
warming up wrists and shoulders, just like before OHP
To increase ROM you need something stackable and firm enough to support your weight. I use bumper plates for handstand pushups but are far more inconvenient than OHP.
Based.
I always used to workout in my backyard.
Didn't have a bench or squat rack or anything, just a barbells and a bunch of plates.
Felt great lifting heavy ass shit in the sun.
Deads, powerclean, snatch, OHP, front squats... All you really need. Throw in some single arm barbell curls for the gurls and bent press for shits and giggles.
>rippling muscles barely disguised by xxl shirt >gigantic penis outlined by by grey walmart cotton shorts >strong masculine features held back only by suboptimal chin >5’8
Real answer >small to large amount of excess body fat >poor cardiovascular conditioning >poor posture >clumsy movement. >either posterior chain dominant or arm dominant depending on type of lifter >very poor fashion. Wears tank tops outside the gym
Nah, hands apart is harder on the shoulders and recruits more side delts, but this is a compound and should be done in strict fashion and for strength purposes.
When I started doing it I had my hands apart like that and it completely fricked up my shoulder to the point I couldn't even raise my arm
I keep my hands in line with my shoulders now and have had no issues
i got a +5 monkey factor and i hate this exercise so very much and can barely even put up 101 pounds for more than 3 reps after like 3 months of training. jus end me now lads
The OHP is sort of a meme exercise. If your goal is to have big delts, lateral raises objectively work them more than any pressing exercise. It hardly works the chest or triceps in comparison to the bench, and it’s also a very fatiguing exercise that’s difficult to progress on.
You can just do bench or incline bench and side laterals to achieve a superior effect.
The OHP doesn’t really do much aside from increase your weekly tonnage a bit. It’s basically just fluff and pump.
If your bench is strong, your overhead press will also be strong. I say cut out the middle man, it’s a waste of time and recovery.
>but muh stabilizers
Really? Do you honestly believe the OHP works your stabilizers anywhere close to what a squat does? Even if you could press 225lbs for reps, which 99% of men will never do, that’s still only 225lbs of load on your core, not much different than a 225lb squat. And most men will be squatting over a hundred pounds more than that for reps by the time they get anywhere close to a 225 OHP.
>Really? Do you honestly believe the OHP works your stabilizers anywhere close to what a squat does?
Do you honestly believe anyone is suggesting OHP to replace squats?
I OHP'd 230 lb strict at 205ish bodyweight last time I programmed for the movement. Haven't done it since
OHP is indeed a meme noob/gymcel trap. Yeah its cool to lift 225 lb over your head (the attention from normies at peak gym times is HONESTLY the only real benefit/pro to the movement). Reasoning is mostly here:
You can’t list one objectively advantageous reason to OHP
>bench loads upper body better, more efficiently, and with less fatigue >lateral delt volume goes much farther and produces less fatigue for more aesthetics >seated machines load the front delt better
Even if your gym had no machines and you for some reason wanted to isolate front delts and couldn’t set up seated db press with the 100s, bench press or even incline bench press are STILL better.
Dummy, just think for a moment how far the barbell is from your lower back when you're holding it above your head versus how far away it is from your lower back when it's on your upper back. You haven't heard of a moment arm?
ITT: Actual trannies and Black folk that have never experienced the carnal desire to lift heavy shit above your head simply because you can. Cope more manlets lmao
My bench went from 225x8 to 225x11 over the course of a couple months after cutting the OHP out of my routine. All it was doing was fatiguing me and stunting my recovery, it’s pointless fluff bro.
Also Jason Blaha and Natural Hypertrophy said the same thing about the OHP, it’s kinda a pointless exercise.
Standing barbell ohp is a meme lift. I've only ever seen dyels or fat fricks do them. In fairness I fell for the SS/ohp meme when I was dyel to end got to around 80-90kg for 5 before realising they were shit.
Any fun primary shoulder strength exercises? Nothing against OHP just want a break. My gym has a viking press setup but the implement is moronic and makes it a pain in the ass to unload. Guess I could just not unload it.
Kettlebell OHP is superior due to involving more stabilizers ubt it's difficult/expensive to get KBs with high enough weights. But I guess KBs up to 100lbs then go with barbell OHP from 2plaet up.
currently im at 1.5pl8 for OHP. I dont do it regularly but id like to do 2pl8 sometime
It used to be my fav shoulder exercise but db shoulder press feels better for me
Its still fun to mog skinny zoomer dyels who finished squatting 1pl8 by pressing the bar for 8
>homosexuals seethe about ohp
Bet you worms cant even unrack lmao1plate.
But unironically, ohp is an absolute monster of an exercise. I couldnt break consistently 3 plates on bench. Started treating ohp with reverence on a separate day, worked roll 2 plates. Literally doing 3 plates of 3-5 reps in multiple sets on bench now.
>is autistic about programming because they don't get gains naturally >is too dumb to stay proportional because they didn't start lifting early >wears tank tops or powerlifting shoes >actually considers talking to free strippers at the gym
OP can't lift 1plate lmau
U mad
Ohp works front and side delt ??
Side delt not so much, seated + dumbell ohp both give incrementally more side delt work. Especially when combined.
Can u explain why doing the movement while seated works side delts???
You can't use momentum(yes even people experienced to the movement use a little unintentionally) or stabilizers from the lower body or core. Also the path is slightly different depending on whether you use a back rest or not. As for dumbells? The same, path for DB is more to the side than in front of you.
Please never post on this board again. You might wanna get checked for a cognitive deficiency.
That wouldn't affect whether or not your side delt participates. Caveman tier magical thinking in action.
It doesn’t, he just made it up. OHP is all front delta and a little triceps.
Yeah and their shoulders suck. I want frickin asteroid sized delts and a nasty lat/ribcage swoop.
In a minor way, it also works lats and traps if you do it right
how does it work the LATS, genius?
Works is a strong word here, but it does use them to hold the bar steady when locked out.
Lats work to stabilize your back and shoulders while standing and lifting a heavy weight over head, obviously.
it also works lets and upper back
So what would you propose be the replacement for them genius?
handstand pushups
How are you gonna progressively overload or increase the weight? You gonna wear a goofy vest and use the wall as support? This is not a suitable replacement, only some bodyweight reps added for variety or more volume.
You eat more and get bigger you fricking idiot

Did you even read the second half of my post before typing, moron?
Yes I did, do both.
240lbs +20lbs
Mirin
Are you the monkey shirt guy?
Idk what that is so I’m gonna say no.
looks like more front delt than a regular bb ohp
not to say that it isn't impressive but it looks more like an incline bench press than an overhead press
So does the modern overhead press. It's essentially a bench press variant.
I’d say it’s pretty similar overhead mechanic, especially if I OHP anything about 225
Above*
I specifically said that you could do both, just not the same as a replacement for a compound lift. I'll stick to seated DB and Arnold press. Have fun with barely doing one rep with the vest lol.

Seated barbell or db press

Shoulder press machine

To increase ROM you need something stackable and firm enough to support your weight. I use bumper plates for handstand pushups but are far more inconvenient than OHP.
Get a pair of paralettes, great for push ups too and there's tons of different sizes so you can get ones that fit your needs
seated db ohp is a good accessory for the standing bb ohp

ypu mean a dyel. very rare i see anyone strong do barbell ohp.
very strong people do it, its only rare

It does. The guy who makes the pictures is just moronic.
Oh so I'm supposed to keep my hands so far apart? i lift LMAO 1plate OHP but my hands are lot closer, pls help.
Nah, hands apart is harder on the shoulders and recruits more side delts, but this is a compound and should be done in strict fashion and for strength purposes.

shut your gay ass up, I do them cause they are fun
Lateral raises are a meme and you're a dyel.
225 lbs with the barbell in your hands requires way more core stabilization than 225 lbs on your back you moron.
t. actual moron
>Really? Do you honestly believe the OHP works your stabilizers anywhere close to what a squat does?

Theres so many 100kg Overhead pressers on IST saying OHP is bad, crazy.
You can’t list one objectively advantageous reason to OHP

Lifting women up to your face for a little stand up lecca fica.
I just put a few fingers in their mouth and a few in their twat and I lift them up like the stanley cup
Nice work! Did you follow any program to hit 2 plates?
Dummy, just think for a moment how far the barbell is from your lower back when you're holding it above your head versus how far away it is from your lower back when it's on your upper back. You haven't heard of a moment arm?

Both are incompetent hacks that lie about being natural to get money from suckers like you tho.
I never benched at all but got my OHP 1rm to 225 and then when I tried benching did 275 for reps without much difficulty.
>a couple of months to go from 2pl8 x8 to 2pl8 x11
did you even lift during that time or only jerk off?
>3 reps in a couple months
lmfao
>this exercise is LE BAD because of irrelevant pseudopolitical shaming tactic
I’ve been lifting for only a year and the one thing I really notice is my deltoids are much bigger. I think it has to be from OHP
Not doing 2 bb presses, 1 pull + machines, and not doing vertical/horizontal while hitting legs just as much as bench.
>goal is 4/6/7
The WR is like 800, 900, and 1000 yall are on that t rex routine.
Being a noble natty
Standing barbell ohp is a meme lift. I've only ever seen dyels or fat fricks do them. In fairness I fell for the SS/ohp meme when I was dyel to end got to around 80-90kg for 5 before realising they were shit.

> 80-90kg

Lies, you likely don't even lift.
80-90kg, you do realize how big of a valley this is on ohp? Oh wait, you don't, because you'll never make it
the only reason to do OHP is to sexually dominate women
Yup that's me
Normalgays get out of my (home) gym
Any fun primary shoulder strength exercises? Nothing against OHP just want a break. My gym has a viking press setup but the implement is moronic and makes it a pain in the ass to unload. Guess I could just not unload it.
OHP just feels good. Lifting heavy weight overhead is a basic human movement. Much more so than stuff like bench press.
Kettlebell OHP is superior due to involving more stabilizers ubt it's difficult/expensive to get KBs with high enough weights. But I guess KBs up to 100lbs then go with barbell OHP from 2plaet up.
KB are for middle aged women that don't want to get "too big"
Never seen a woman use a KB over 20lbs.

Guys, I'm scared of the OHP. I'm on 47kg and I get really scared of failing it compared to other lifts. How do I get better at it?

Dyel here
I mainly do arnold press but been stuck on 22kg bells for a while (don't laugh)
I do bench first and end my workout on the press
Should I be doing them on different days? Really struggling to progress on both bench (3x5 75kgs) and press
