How useful is having a thick neck?

How useful is having a thick neck?

I have a relatively large neck compared to average without being fat and some judo practitioners who work out in the same building as I commented on me having a "crazy" neck a few days ago. Is it useful in Judo or other grappling sports?
Are there any pros of having a big neck that balances out the sleep apnea risks?

    Thick neck generally makes any guy look tougher and more handsome. Also helps prevent your head and its contents from jostling around if you receive a blow to the head.

      I kinda didn't. I used to have a skinny neck and it just grew from working out. I do some powerlifting and strongman where traps are involved a lot but i suppose the rest of the neck is just built from straining myself while lifting.

    You don't have a large neck. You're internally rotating your shoulders which pushes your neck muscles outward with your traps making it look wider. Standing relaxed your neck is no larger than 16 inches in circumference

          I think so, i literally asked my mom to go in to check on me while sleeping if I'm snoring or not and she claims im fine. But you never know. Thinking of taping ny mouth before bed

        No, that is you when doing that trick a bit more so than in first pic. If you genuinely had a big neck & traps there wouldn't be a visible gap between your traps & collarbones

    Attractiveness and injury prevention. Neck work is also really easy (weighted curls/extensions 2x a week) and neck grows really fast. Good for the majority of sports and life in general. Sleep apnea only happens if you are a roider or your neck has too much fat.

      My dad has sleep apnea and he isn't even that fat, just kinda old man chubby. Im so fricking afraid of sleep apnea.

        2x a week doing neck curls/extensions for 15-30 or 25 reps is something the majority of people can't go wrong with. However, if someone wants a giga neck they have to either go high intensity (old school strength method) or high volume (mike the machine bruce method). That or headbang for years on end but that'll usually end up in an injury of of some sort

    its useful in grappling because a lot of grappling, especially high level judo, involves posting on your head, bridging on your head, diving into the ground and standing on your head (while throwing someone) etc
    you cant do any of that without a strong neck
