I can only go to the gym 3 times a week, would doing upper body, legs, then upper body again, rest the next 4 days, result in decent gains?

Pick a program and follow it. Doesn’t matter how many days per week it is, you can just adapt it to your own needs.
Why would you go to the gym three days in a row and rest for 4 days in a row? Why not just go every other day, that way you'll have recovered more in-between lifts?

Fair enough. But yes, 3 days a week with a PPL split is enough for hypertrophy, especially if you go hard. Don't worry too much about the actual data of it all, just get in there and do your best and you'll have results to show for it. The obsession with "the perfect split, routine, diet" etc. is mostly a hinderance, and most would be better off just getting the work done.
thanks, my girlfriend also decided to come along with me to the gym but she insist on doing 3 days straight of legs. Isn't that a bad idea for recovery? I could put her on a split as well where she does upper body for atleast one of the days or would she be fine as is?
I gave up on trying to train my ex and give her training tips since it just created arguments and whatnot. You just have to learn to roll with what a woman wants to do in the gym, and just give her advice on lifting form or something. Since women hate training upper body in the same way many men hate training legs, it's best just to let her, although maybe try and hint and training her core, back and upper body atleast a little bit for health and wellness reason atleast. But yeah 3 days of leg workouts are going to be quite brutal if she goes at it seriously.

This is similar to what I was doing, except I did triceps/biceps on same day and specifically worked shoulders on chest day. This sounds good if I want to switch it up though

it's fine to even train your legs 5-6 times a week anon. those oly lifters are doing absurd shit like 5x5 + 3x10 back squats everyday and havent gotten their recovery fricked. hell for me i'm doing 5x5 + 3x8 back squats on MWF and 3x5 front squats + leg/butt accessories on TTS and my squat rocketed up by 30kg in 3 months.

Decent gains when you're new - yes.
If you want to grow you have to do volume and that quite often.
Work hard but be careful of your expectations.
