Why do people keep implying spotter is a substitute for safties, it's moronic. Safeties are for catching the barbell if it slips, spotter can't fricking do catch it midair. All spotter can do is help you lower the weight if you he sees you struggling.

My gym's safeties suck. Basically they are either so low they do nothing or so high they stop bar a way before it touches my chest
