gotcha, I'm pretty lean & work pullups into my back routine. I typically do between 40-50 total in sets of 10 then drop to sets of 5 when I fail 10. before moving on to other workouts.

I'll have to look up the russian method

                >for you i would say start with 10 sets of 3
                >every day add a rep to the rightmost set, so next day 9x3/4x1, then 8x3/4x2, etc

The thing is even though it's not a bad lift for an average gym goer there are literal kids benching 4pl8 and more. Obviously, they are extremely gifted, but it just puts into perspective how "good" a 2pl8 bench really is.

2 plates is a good amount of weight, something that is respectable, but nothing to flex on others.

I started benching consistently in october/september 2023 with a 1rm of 77kg, and I have an 89kg pin press atm (I did have previous experience with calisthenics, and weighted, but I had a chronic lack of volume for 2 years that made my progress really slow)
If we're talking purely about adaptability, then getting a 2pl8 bench is completely doable. What's hard is knowing how to train correctly withour prior experience.

I want to get to 2pl8 but really don't think it's really that easy do so in 6 months like people say. I'm 29, 6ft, 190lbs.
Lifting for 3 months and my bench currently is like 187lbs(85kg) for 8. Once I got to 80kg progress started to slow down and my tendons around the elbows are starting to hurt.
I do bench, incline db, tricep pulldowns, ohp, dips. I do everything I can imagine to get my bench strength up, but doing 2pl8 for reps will take a while. Don't get discouraged, most people lie about their numbers here.

Idk why people use 1rm to claim the bench 2 or 3 pl8t. Unless you do those weights for reps for actual sets, you are not really benching that weight.

        Anonymous

That's the issue with claiming certain numbers. When I say I bench 2pl8 I mean 5x5 with full rom, and I thought that was the agreed upon standard
But some of them mean 1 rep. some even mean half a rep with a fricking spotter taking a good amount of the weight. some mean they can do lenny reps where the bar literally moves 2 inches

Gee it's almost like people on the internet are full of shit...

Memes aside, I hit a PR recently of 127.5kg on bench with myself weighing around 80kg. According to people online every sub 60kg twink teenager is benching that, yet somehow in real life gyms I rarely ever see anyone going higher than 2pl8 and the ones that do are actually big, and in most cases bloatlords who sacrificed all aesthetics for strength. I regularly see people here saying they bench 3 plates with less than 2 years of training

Too many gullible idiots believing what they see on Instagram and tiktok with very obviously fake weights. When you genuinely have a big bench you know what it really takes. so easy to spot the guys who don't really lift

      >yet somehow in real life gyms I rarely ever see anyone going higher than 2pl8 and the ones that do are actually big,
what's 'big'? Some people just got advantageous levers for specific lifts.

Okay? Those things arent mutually exclusive though. 2pl8 bench is absolutely achievable in 6 months. The gains that most people have at the gym are achievable in 1-2 years yet ppl spin their wheels for 3-5 years.

I agree 2pl8 bench is somewhat rare and impressive but on the same note its achievable in 6 months. It depends on the arguement we are trying to make here.

I dont know what other example I could give you. Its like creating your own business. Statistics show that something like 99% of businesses fail, so if your business doesnt fail thats insanely impressive because you are in the top 1%, but its because most ppl are fricking moronic and their business ideas and plans suck. So thats why its not really that impressive if your business doesnt instantly go down under.

To go from 1pl8t to 2pl8t for reps as a normal, untrained human male you need more than 6months.
Just because some football kids, who by all means usually are freaks, can do it at 16-17 doesn't mean general population can.
You would have to have GREAT diet from the start, not have any setbacks due to tendonitis (they will hurt bad if you are progressing fast as untrained individual) and generally speaking know what the frick you are doing.

Maybe its possible, but it also depends on your starting weight, height e.t.c. Too many ifs, realistically, a year, year in a half of actually putting in work would be more reasonable. And again, thats without spinning the wheels and being mental b***h.
