You don’t have a underbite, you have a underdeveloped lower jaw. You should align the lower jaw to the upper jaw and not vice versa.
And define overbite? Some orthodontists pull such things from their ass to give expensive treatment. Also sometimes jaws develop delayed. No reason to intervene with minor overbite with such a young age.

How do I tell if I'm recessed? A lot of the times I want to rest my lower jaw more forward but the upper jaw is farther back. I wonder if braces pushed the front teeth back like that?
