I squat 5x5 at 180 lbs. By the 3rd set, I'm breathing hard.
By the last, I'm completely out of breath.
Is this normal? Are squats supposed to be cardio?
I've jogged at a 5.2 pace for 20 minutes straight and not be as out of breath as when I do squats.
You should be resting at least 2 minutes between sets. I rest 3 minutes between squat sets personally but you can rest more or less depending on your preferences.
I started out resting 3 minutes between sets, but because of the breathing problems I now rest 5 minutes between that last 2 sets. It helped out a lot, but it feels like I'm doing something wrong that I have to rest that long to begin with.
Because putting hundreads of pounds on your back and squating is extremely unnatural. Your body produces so much stress hormones because it thinks that you're literally dying.
Squatting and deadlifting is the biggest gymcel cope. You will ruin your spine and have decreased testosterone.
This is the reason why all long time lifters have to get on TRT in their late 30's despite leading ''healthy'' lifestyle.
unless youre atg high bar squatting its a waste of time and effort anyways
Just down some caffeine and blast metal so loud your ears bleed. You'll be fine
ngmi
Same
Same. I wish my gym had a hack squat machine.. Someday
I don't like them either. They also feel silly. I'm not tryna grow my ass.

a lot of people underestimate cardio required for high intensity lifts.

I started off hating squats but I got to the point where I love them and my body craves doing them.

Nothing gets my blood pumping like heavy squats. Can't wait to do them again
Just do box jumps and weighted box jumps instead
I hate deadlifts. Anons, what's your least favorite lift out of the big three?
Bench press. I blame my long arms, I don't know. Dumbbells work much better for me
me too anon so I just do bulgarian split squats and deadlifts
