just know that as long as you're putting in work no one can say shit to you because you're doing all you can, and you going consistently will silently motivate a lot of others, but they're too scared to say anything. anyone who would criticize you is insecure in themselves and if you don't stop it crushes them.

go in the morning where it's empty, so comfy

      1) Go in the early mornings when it's empty, 2) Get yourself some noise cancelling headphones or earbuds to distract yourself, 3) Internalize the idea that nobody really gives a shit about your appearance in the gym. If you're fit, they'll know you put in the effort. If you're fat, they'll commend you or at least understand that you're putting in the work to drop the weight. Once it becomes a habit, your anxiety will vanish and you'll notice that gym bros are some of the friendliest dudes you'll ever meet

What do you recommend I start out with? I am fairly frail looking but I am short. I do not want to do exercises that will make me look lanky or awkward

Find any old empty machine and do some 10 reps. Move around to different machines. You'll blend in far more than you know lol. Gyms are full of losers worse than you brother. Change your mindset

just choose random machines and frick around for a month, make sure to look at guys working out to learn proper form. use JEFIT for exercises too. by the time the month is over you'll have gotten used to things and start to make a program

it's really easy once you get the habit going. remember, it's all about consistency. if you don't feel like going, just go and do a shitty job. you're not gonna be in your top form everytime. don't not go

oh and forget about appearance when you work out. you're there to work on yourself, it'll be hard not to be self conscious when you're using the punching bag or you're on you're doing that leg shit when you're lying on your stomach ass up mouth down kek
but it's something you'll have to deal with, and don't worry, we've all been there. just remember that the guys in the gym are more focused on their workout and if they're resting, they're probably zoning out

Honestly just go in and experiment for now. If you feel lost, look up some YouTube vids on how to use certain machines or ask someone nearby, but most are straight forward. If you can, try and get a personal trainer later on, but if not, you can find tons of free programs online on how to begin. Your goal should be to learn the form for all of the compound movements before increasing the weight. Don't feel pressured to perform, the gym is a fun place 🙂

r/fitness beginner routine is unironically a great introduction. Consists only of a few low volume barbell compound exercises, like squats, bench, deadlift. Watch form videos by Jeremy ethier and Jeff nippard to learn proper form for the movements. Run it for a month or two, by then you should be used to the gym. Machines are very easy to use and dumbbell movements are usually less complex them barbell compounds so covering barbell compounds early on is a good idea if you're willing to pay attention to detail in form.

Just go in and do your thing. Start at less popular times if you're more comfortable that way. But don't let this board give you a bad idea of what a gym is like. You might see some tiktok prostitutes but it's not as bad as the internet makes it seem. At the end of the day, most people don't give a shit about others in the gym. The only ones that do are zoomers who have literally nothing going for themselves except the fact that they pick things up and put them down.

Maybe you had the wrong impression of ISTizens. Of course there are gym dudebros out there but most people are helpful. Fatties are the ones with a bad attitude.

    Build a home gym.
Make one time purchases for equipment that you will have for the rest of your life instead of getting israeliteed by subscriptions.

OP I'll be 100% honest. The meanest people you will interact with aren't the fit dudes at the gym they are the people you are talking to on 4cham every day

Not even true. This thread is proof of that. Most people here seem to respect fatties that are putting in the effort to get fit.

Just scout out the gym, do something super basic like some db presses or curls whatever, just look around if something interests you next time try that interesting thing search up a video on how to use it before you go in. Eventually I’d recommend doing something kind of stupid just to move past what everyone thinks of you, for me it was zercher carry on the sled track, yeah everyone was looking but I got a mega pump and had fun.
