Zinc doesn't "deplete" copper, it competes for absorption, because both metals use the same transport protein in the gut to enter your bloodstream.
As long as you don't pop eat your zinc containing foods or zinc supplements within the same 3 hours as your copper supplements or copper containing foods you're fine.
So if I take a zinc pill every night 5 hours after I have dinner will it do me harm? I take no other supplements.

It won't have a significant effect on absorption of other nutrients, but your zinc is better absorbed when consumed with something acidic, ideally vitamin c (ascorbic acid).
I eat a kiwi fruit or an orange with my zinc tablet in the morning, then I drink cocoa at night for the copper.

Because most people take their supplements along with their meals and don't know how to optimally spread their supplements / meals to optimise absorption.
Putting some copper in your zinc supplement is meant to offset the loss of copper absorption from your food, but it's not necessary if you place your copper + zinc supps/foods at opposite times of day (morning/night etc)
