When I was around 30 I went back to read some of the literature I had to read when I was in school and I enjoyed quite a few of them, and I'd actually say one of them happens to be my favorite book now. For me, that is absolutely no indication that a person hasn't read anything else since then, but rather that they are open to give things a second chance, and that they have matured. Also, the vast majority of attractive women don't give a shit about things like that. From my experience, unless they are impressionable and submissive, they never actually want an intellectual man or someone who is actually intelligent. They say they want an intelligent man or that they find it sexy, but what they mean is someone who is just about as intelligent as they are. Now, I am not saying that those women are anywhere near the ideal, but they are the average women you encounter.

unironic 130 iq here. 99% of women i meet are in fact less intelligent than me and every girl i’ve dated has told me that i always make them feel stupid. what’s ironic is that topic never comes up unless we were having some sort of argument and disagreement. women cant handle being intellectually challenged as their entire lives, their opinions included, go completely unchecked. they literally cannot handle being wrong about anything because they base everything they believe off their emotions and they do it to the point that they believe their emotional response = reality. they are baffling creatures that should be studied, not taken seriously

I value things based on their usefulness to me. That's why fiction has no place in my list of valued literature, and by proxy, a so-called "favorites" list. Textbooks are nice, but more important are the books which lead to some kind of paradigm shift or framework development - foundational texts, if you will. That's probably why Thus Spoke Zarathustra is in that valued category for me. I don't read often to be quite honest.

Women are so creative when it comes to Sexual Selection.

Remember : If you're a high value Chad, they will break the rules for you.
If you're a low value loser, they will make up rules or icks just to disqualify you.

Rules only matter for Mid level men, when they are unsure if they like you or not. Prsumably that's a large part of the male population, but it's better to improve your value as a man than try to keep up with women delusional standards.

Truth to this. If a woman isn't attracted to you based on actual mating qualities (physical looks, temperament, social status, wealth) they'll find a superficial reason to reject you.
A woman would rather tell her friends:
      >I rejected him because he reads Nietzche
      rather than:
      >I rejected him because he works at Burger King and has a weak jaw
Because the former excuse makes the woman seem like she's selecting based on some kind of conceited idea of her own intelligence.
When a man rejects a woman, he's honest with himself and others about the justification for it, but women aren't, for a variety of reasons.

Just remember, these types of women are not worth your time or effort. If they judge you based off of your favorite book, they will be even worse if you actually enter into a relationship with them. They will judge every single little thing you do.
There is a reason why these women post to dating strategy boards...their relationships do bit last.

Honestly, women who read a lot of fiction but are allergic to non-fiction are a major red flag to me. They're basically guaranteed to be a degenerate that laps up omegaverse fanfics in her free time rather than doing anything productive. You don't get knowledge from indulging in fiction, only comfort, so people who indulge in it are emotionally immature.

      Anonymous

Point taken re: women (or anyone) who obsesses over fiction, but to say fiction cannot transmit knowledge is a narrow view.

        Anonymous

Yeah, that's why I said indulging. I feel like for guys it would be with videogames and anime instead of reading, but there isn't enough people calling out women for that kind of thing. Women fiction is the number one reason so many have unrealistic expectations in real life romance.

It's really is that simple. We make fun of male losers for liking content where a double D cup highschooler instantly falls for generic self insert protagonists, and that's good! We should make fun of them... but the other side of the coin isn't getting their share of it and IT SHOWS. You got overweight women nearing 30 seriously holding out for Santa Clause to set her up with some green sweater wearing nice guy in a small town. Shits ridiculous!

True, anime and video games do form a lot of the bases for male fantasies these days.

The unfortunate reality is there are countless nice sweater guys available if only they would lower their insane standards. Friend of mine who is legit handsome and has a cool career gets rejected by fat waitress/hairdresser types on apps so often it’s a running joke.

Nah, it's more of you're a liar category.

This. I don’t believe anyone who says they’ve read it, it’s damn long, especially for today’s world

I feel like by the time anyone would get to asking about my favorite book they probably have already profiled me quite perfectly.
I read this in college for a software class and it's a nonfiction opinion piece about there author's ideas on media changing as computers offer new options for presenting ideas and stories. I like it because it's an easy read that makes reasonable suggestions to improve interactive media that web/game/software designers to this day aren't considering well. It should be a required read for anyone working in media.
Now if the pussy wasn't already dry, I'm telling you it's dry now.

Derrida and Foucault are the founding fathers of post-modernism, while the ideological basis of right-wing individualism relies on Kant's deontological ethics (ie "theft is an intolerable evil, no matter how many people it may improve the lives of")???

    >avoid anyone into Aristotle, Nietzsche and especially Derrida and Foucault. Kant and Hegel is generally okay.

Like fricking clockwork, lmao. Of course she would prefer that self-centered homosexual Kant with a superiority complex, who hated life so much he didn't want to have children "for their sake", who believed that doing good things to people you like is morally worse than doing good things to people you hate, over Aristotle, who laid the groundwork of western philosophy through his pragmatic, positive way of thinking. He was right about women, too, BTW.

Sun and Steel does suck, though. Mishima has written much better pieces, especially Haru no Yuki and the Sea of Fertility cycle in general.

No. They just hate it when you had to put effort into the way you look rather than just magically looking like that by default - because if you did, then you'll probably have expectations towards her that involve putting some effort into things too, and that's the last thing she wants.

I mean it's not wrong, biologically speaking women look for genetic fitness in a man. If you had to teach yourself and struggle upwards, that means your genetic potential isn't as good as Chad's and your sons would be born weaker too. Women don't care about the struggle, they wait at the finish line and pick the winner

The only reason Hegel and Kant aren’t on her blacklist is she wouldn’t have ever met anyone who was most strongly compelled by their work specifically. It Looks like she wrote this post by presupposing “people who read books are good” and then thinking about exceptions to this rule.

  119. 4 months ago
    Anonymous

All of these are either teen books or curricular materials that most readers would have burned through by 21 or 22, with few exceptions. If you’re 29 and your 31 year old date is actively contending with the ideas expressed in catcher in the rye, it makes sense to see that as a red flag. I think as people mature they not only develop a broader appreciation for literature (not just hyper-specializing in the works of dosto or Nietzsche), but they’re more willing to read classical literature for enjoyment rather than to garner lessons or philosophical concepts. So I think the perfect answer would be something like Zorba the Greek
