Adjustable dumbbells allow you to work out your entire body. I really like the 90 pound ones from Bowflex. They've always worked flawlessly for me over 10+ years. And they'll save you a ton of room.

Then all you need is an adjustable bench that declines and inclines and has a leg extension. Just make sure that the foam cylinder pads on the leg extension are flush with the bench so that you can do reverse leg curls.

Those 2 pieces of equipment alone cover 90% of my home workouts.

Once you get those, then I'd get a weight cage so you can do squats and bench press safely by yourself + cable pulls. I also use mine to do pull ups and chin ups and to stretch my body by doing dead hangs.

My 4th and last piece of equipment is a dip and leg raise thingy. But you might be able to get those accessories in a weight cage. The weight cage I use is like 25 years old and never once given me issues.

You could also go miniscule and take the calisthenic pill and get a pair of olympic rings and simply rely on your own body weight. Honestly, if I could go back in time, this is the route I'd take. Doing olympic style moves just seems more fun and satisfying + they impress people.

What's wrong with Bowflex? I've never used adjustable dumbbells before since my office gym has a nice rack up to 30kg.

probably just an autist who thinks bowflex dumbbells mean dumbbell handles attached to a bending rod or some shit

because theyre plastic pieces of garbage that break instantly, will drop plates while youre lifting and arent even cheap

    What’s the budget?
If you got about a grand:
Squat rack, barbell, pair of 5s, 10s, 25s, 45s plates and a flat or adjustable bench.

Whatever you buy just think ahead of what you really want to do or have in the near future. Like if you wanna have a lat pull-down/low row machine, buy a rack that has the option to buy the attachments later, don’t just go for the cheapest non expandable rack you can afford today.

If you only got a couple hundred bucks I’d just a pull up bar, resistance bands, and the cheap adjustable dumbbells your dad probably had once.

invest in a really good power rack where you can add attachments like what
Ultimately it depends on your workout style and routine.

A good rack is where you'll be doing a lot of your exercises. A good rack, a good barbell, a good bench, and some free weight plates with some clips will cover a lot of what you want. Add in some dumbbell handles you can load the weights onto, a pullup bar attachment for the rack, and some gymnastics rings and you can do virtually everything there is for lifting. Anything after that, like a hex bar or a landmine attachment, would be for fun, or like an EZ-Bar would be good for curls, skull crushers, and the like if you have sensitive elbow joints.

I just have a power rack, bench, and a bunch of free weights right now. You can buy a good cheap power rack for under 500 and it’ll let you squat bench and do pull ups. Everything else you can hit with free weights or sitting on the bench

a cable machine with adjustable hook points is definitely a great idea. with proper attachments you could certainly work every upper body muscle group.

dumbbells and bench are also really great to have at home

you can get a power cage for pretty cheap on facebook marketplace, after that you just need a bench, some weights and a barbell and you are all good.

Bar and plates. You can clean and press instead of doing OHP from a rack and do floor press instead of bench.
