the only way I can get any of my lifts up is by targeting the same muscle group with various different exercises throughout the week (2-3 times)
you hit for example chest with 6 exercises of 4 sets each one 10-12 reps till your fricking chest falls off and then wait till next week to hit it again.

All depends how hard you're training. If you're getting no sleep and not eating nutritious food, recovery is harder. It's not all about how many time you hit a group per week
