If you cant run, you are not fit

If you cant run a 5k in 20 minutes you are out of shape, Its as simple as that. You are fat and out of shape.

And thats a generously low standard, the average high schooler at my school ran a 5k in 17 minutes.

Running is easy if you weigh 60kg, so it's not a standard to abide to
Work output is the only valuable metric for cardio performance, so something like rowing is a much better indicator of fitness

      >something overly specific is a better indicator of fitness than the basic ability of moving around
      lose weight
if you are at an acceptabl weight for your height, no exercise, running pull-ups or anything, is going to be a problem
ideal weight is your height in centimeters -100 (minimum) and -90 (maximum)
bodyfat should never be above 15%, ideally it should be at 10%

I'm skinny as frick and I couldn't run a 20m 5k, you have a good cross country team

17 min is like bare min for varsity dude, you’re slow af. There are kids knocking it out in like 15min

okm maybe I exagerrated alittle, 17 is pretty fast (but still doable), maybe 18 minutes is a more realistic benchmark for average person

and not gonna dox myself but my high school still had a lot of people under 17 minutes see here https://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/meet/223171/results/892809

That’s not much of an exaggeration, but as you get older it gets harder. I’m almost 40 and still doing 18-19 min 5ks at 200lbs though, so there is no excuse.
Fatties gonna cope, but you’re right, 20 min should be expected.

When would I ever need to run where time is an issue.
From your DYEL, punk ass? Nah.
To keep up tracking some Mammoth for miles until it bleeds out? Nah.
To pass some military test so I can die for Israel? Nah.
To raise as much money for homosexuals dying of aids as possible? Nah.
Because I'm always late to be somewhere like some Black person? Nah.

I literally can’t run this slow anymore. I have to stop and walk to go slower than 10 minutes per mile. I remember when i first started and my goal was a 10m mile though. If i go slower than 8-9 minutes im basically just speed walking now

True. Though I'm *barely* there. Like 19:50 something when I time it, and I have to put in serious effort.

    >the average high schooler at my school ran a 5k in 17 minutes.

No they didn't. The average cross-country kid? Sure, probably faster, I would guess mid-low 16s. But the average kid? Nope. Not a fricking chance. Average high schooler couldn't hold that pace for a mile.

what's an example of how long 5k is? Like if you were describing the distance without measuring.

as long as 5000 1 meter rulers
      roughly 5500 yardsticks
      about 5000 1-meter steps
      50 football fields
      about 70,000 sticks of butter

maybe 2 bigmacs to a stick of butter? how about 150k. Can you run 150,000 bigmacs in 20 minutes?

That's a lot of big macs, I don't think they'll fit in my macros.
