If your only goal was to lose as much weight as possible, what would be the best method?

Curious what the fastest way to lose weight is. Say you had a fatty who was 450 pounds and you had 6 months to get them to 250 pounds for a million dollars. What would you do? Ofc one of the conditions is they can't die and no hard drugs.

Wouldn't fasting with light cardio be the most effective method?

Also for the sake of this thought experiment, assume this fatty is being monitored 24/7 and cannot break whatever program they are doing.

just starve yourself by only drinking water and supplementing with every single vitamin. Dropping 200 pounds in 6 months will destroy your metabolism either way, so might as well go as hard as you can

Is starving the most effective method tho? Wouldn't something like eating very low cal (say 500) be more effective with medium activity?

Also not for me, it's just something I've been thinking about after getting into med school and dealing with a lot of fatties on rotations

Why would eating calories be more beneficial to weight loss than not eating at all?

Maybe the additional energy helps with doing more work? So the 500 extra cals translates to enough energy to move more which in total burns more calories. Thinking of how David goggins lost 150 pounds in 3 months eating like 500 cals in chicken breast and broccoli on top of training insanely

I am not sure how much extra work you can do on 500 calories. By taking vitamins, amino acids, electrolytes (basically everything that's 0 calories but is needed so your body doesn't completely shut down and destroy itself) you can maintain your metabolism to an extent, and if we hypothetically consider that the person has an infinite amount of willpower, they will force themselves to do very basic activities like walking, which in turn might burn more calories combined than if you had those 500 calories worth of lean protein to boost more intense exercise. But I'm not an expert and I don't know how to properly research the extent to which micronutrients maintain metabolism as opposed to macronutrients. I'm just going by what I've read about as the most extreme examples of weight loss, just as concentration camp inmates or that scottish guy that lost 300 pounds in a year.

500cal would probably keep their metabolism somewhat alive. Of course it'd be like, 200g of chicken breast and 3 eggs a day.
Interesting experiment if you could control outside variables and do it in a 100% controlled environment where fatties could not cheat

Your premise is wrong as faster is not better. It’s about sustainability both during and after weight loss. The art of dieting is neither doing to little nor too much but as much as is sustainable. For starters o would go only with counting calories in and protein intake, plus how much fluid is consumed and maybe some reasonable supplements. Nothing else, including no exercise, because at this point its not worth the downsides. If you 350 pounds you will be challenged to the max already with just the diet which is about managing hunger

This is a thought experiment with a point, there are many reasons why someone might have to drop weight fast, I'm just curious what the most efficient method would be

Eating very low calories is MUCH harder than eating nothing at all.

It's easier to eat nothing at all than constantly temp your body and play games with it.

        Protein-sparing modified fast.
You basically only eat lean protein sources and leafy greens/low calorie fibrous vegetables for calcium, potassium and what not. It's what that my-600-lb-life doctor puts all those cows on.

Which would do what, exactly? It can't be any worse for you than being extremely obese.

Chained to a wall in a basement, starving for the whole duration. I'd feed them only water, electrolytes, vitamins and a bit of yeast for aminoacids.

Pic rel fasted for a year and went from 456 to 180, so 450 to 250 in half that time might actually not work. In that case I'd hire some shady doctor to amputate limbs.

    fasting
but with water and electrolytes like
LMNT so that you don´t die of cardiac arrest from not having electrolytes.
a guy named Angus did this for a whole year.

I did this one diet that was kinda mental. Basically it was 200g of any lean protein source (lile chicken breast or canned tuna) per day and rest of the calories came from vegetables like tomatoes, cucumbers and like salad leaves or some shit. The goal was to keep daily caloric intake around 500kcals and to keep that up for 30 days. I managed to fo that for a week before I started to notice that it was taking a toll ony health, but in that week I lost like 7 kg.
