In fact, showing too much dorsiflexion and not bending over enough is a complete mistake. You should just read the squat chapter in starting strength and learn to squat. The more bent over you have to be -- the stronger it makes you. It's a benefit for strength training. If your femurs were small and your torso was very long, so your anthropometry dictated you had a very upright squat, well then the squat will not be a great tool to train your hamstrings. But for me, for example it is. I've even torn my hamstring squatting.

How should I assist my mexibro with his legs? High chance he will injure down the line. But if you want to press on - elevate his heels, whether with the shoes or something else. Keep doing it until he can squat, but I doubt it will look pretty. And that's the "legitimate" powershitter competitions, this was relying on one guy to spot a squat (which never fricking works btw). There is a correct way to spot a squat as a solo person but it is really, really gay, and something nobody ever does for obvious reasons (you pretty much have to dry hump them and squeeze their body).
