the loss of collagen is what makes your hair and skin age and look dry and brittle. Collagen is why babies smell so good and the lack of it why old people smell old.

You can not supplement it, your body can only generate it. Collagen supplements are a meme yes

Old people smell is a specific chemical. You can't smell the lack of collagen, wtf is this post

      Anonymous

wrong, you can supplement with amino acids that are essential for collagen production, so your body will make more.

        Anonymous

collagen also provides the amino acids for collagen production since its collagen and has the amino acids.

        Anonymous

        No its not wrong.
Taking things to support bodies natural production is not the same as taking the thing it self. You can also not get your body to produce more of it then what your body's natural production rate of it is. And this rate goes down with age and you can't do nothing about that. (maybe top end science can if you throw mills at it)

        Basic logic goes
        Body naturally produces collagen
        Collagen production decreases with age.
Body cannot take up collagen from supplement.
You are bound to lose collagen and see your skin wrinkle and rate of repair decrease.
Yes you can optimize for health and get all nutrients to allow your body to operate this process at its peak but nothing more then that.

Are you sure about this statement? Im pretty sure Ive seen studies stating your body will use collagen supplemented.

I am very open to having it criticized and proven wrong. I have heard information that says that the body cannot take collagen in supplement form. Convince me it can be taken in supplement form and i will start taking it.

What does the research say on collagen supplements?

Most research on collagen supplements is related to joint and skin health. Human studies are lacking but some randomized controlled trials have found that collagen supplements improve skin elasticity. [3,4] Other trials have found that the supplements can improve joint mobility and decrease joint pain such as with osteoarthritis or in athletes. [5] Collagen comprises about 60% of cartilage, a very firm tissue that surrounds bones and cushions them from the shock of high-impact movements; so a breakdown in collagen could lead to a loss of cartilage and joint problems.

However, potential conflicts of interest exist in this area because most if not all of the research on collagen supplements are funded or partially funded by related industries that could benefit from a positive study result, or one or more of the study authors have ties to those industries. This makes it difficult to determine how effective collagen supplements truly are and if they are worth their often hefty price.

                Can You Eat Collagen?

Foods containing collagen or foods that help with collagen production including fish, shellfish, meat, oranges, kiwis, bell peppers, eggs, whole grains,There is a lack of research to show that eating collagen can directly benefit skin or joint health. When digested in the stomach, collagen is broken down into amino acids, which are then distributed wherever the body most needs protein. Still, many foods that support collagen production are generally recommended as part of a healthful eating plan.

At this time, non-industry funded research on collagen supplements is lacking. Natural collagen production is supported through a healthy and balanced diet by eating enough protein foods, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables and reducing lifestyle risk factors.

So it seems that, if you are eating a good diet and getting enough protein you got enough nutrients to support production. And the evidence that the body takes it up trough skin or digestion is lacking

There are quite a bit if you search for them. A lot of them are very recent as well. Most studies say it won't help much for patients who already have significant cartilage issues but it does maintain and improve conditions for those who dont

It is quite expensive for sure but its worth it for me. My joints feel a whole lot better on it than off. Not saying my joints are not bullet proof, just saying it helps maintain no pain or issues

                >This randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial confirmed that skin aging could be addressed using nutrients that are able to restore skin hydration, elasticity, and density. Objective dermatological measurements, such as cutometry and corneometry, have proven that oral collagen peptides together with other dermonutrients significantly improve skin hydration, elasticity, roughness, and density after three months of intake. These tests thus verify the results obtained in previous trials. Moreover, and in line with the objective measurements, the study participants, in their subjective assessments, concluded that their skin appearance had significantly improved.
Finally, the collagen supplement did not cause any side effects and proved to be safe and well tolerated during the entire period of application and thereafter.

A whole thread of morons talking out of their asses. So it works, and you can supplement collagen.

Most people are not inclined to read about how the particular amino acids in certain types of collagen are used and would rather reduce things to a yes or no answer as to whether or not it works.

I dunno, it's weird, bought some and took a double dose for 10 days or so, then I experienced a sort of "glow up" where my skin was near perfect and awesome. Then it vanished in a matter of days, and I never achieved it again.

Collagen supps are nonsense because your digestive system just breaks them down it doesn't recognize them as collagen and send them off to your face.

You're better just eating lots of protein and vitamin C.

the point would be to give your body the same exact amino acids needed for collagen production, by consuming collagen
it's probably useless in people who already eat plenty of animal protein
I can maybe see it useful in people who don't eat enough, or maybe in old old people

This and also topical collagen is nonsense too because the molecule is apparently too large to be absorbed b the skin.

Eating collagen is a meme, it's not any better than any other good protein source.

Some populations each such little protein you can see improvements with a little collagen, but you'd see the same with eggs or whatever.

Literally no one can explain what's so special about collagen in a way you wouldn't already get from a couple eggs, chicken, salmon, milk that it quickly becomes clear it's snake oil

Supplements are a meme. If you're young you still have time to hop on preventative measures tretinoin, moisturizer & sunscreen. But at the end of the day what difference does it make looking slightly less old at 30. What matters is your birthdate at the end of the day.

      >But at the end of the day what difference does it make looking slightly less old at 30
Very easy to say when you young and not 30 lmao. Once you get old, there is no turning back time and try to look younger. Its best to try to stay looking young for as long as you can, old dudes trying to pull young women wish they took better care of themselves when they were in their 20s

Yes so why wouldn't you want to take care of yourself and look good in your 30s? Most men will also have the best chance at marriage in their 30s since now they will be financially more stable. To tell young dudes to not take care of their appearance is extremely stupid and setting them up for failure.
