Is hunting based?

I got about 40lbs of free meat from this thing. I am thinking if I get another one that will be about 70-80lbs and heart and liver are super nutritious. I can feed myself and my family on lean venison and still meet my red meat cravings while also having chicken and fish throughout the week as well but I basically substitute any red meat recipes I was gunna do with deer instead of beef like filet, ground anything, steaks, roasts, etc. It was a large initial investment and you have to pay for tags but other than that the only thing it costs me is ammo and gas to drive to where i hunt

I also thinking rucking through the woods with all the gear to my stand has to be burn a few hundred calories, right?

How could you kill such a beautiful creature your frickec in the head

What do you mean? You sit in a blind or a tree until they walk by and then you aim at their vital organs. Or are you saying like why would you kill wild game? Unless you're 100% vegan kindly stfu, and even if you are you just lack knowledge. I'll eat anything I harvest myself before anything they have in the grocery store when possible....there are regulations around this stuff and hunters and anglers do more for the environment than all save the earth leftists activists combined.

It's pretty based, but unless you were raised in a family of hunters then it's hard to build that knowledge base and get started. I have the guns, just don't know how to find these frickers when I actually want to.

Head to IST. Or, if you can, start knocking on farmers doors or use public land. You just wanna setup a tree stand or a blind where you see signs of deer (poop, tracks, etc.)

Deer in my area die of starvation because humans killed all the wolves and replaced them with lawns. If I was deer in charge of protecting deer interests I would encourage more hunting.

      Ok doomer

This has nothing to do with fitness. Fat crippled boomers shoot deer all the time, so do women and small children. This is not any kind of fitness or athletic event.

Archery hunting is most definitely athletic

Eating healthy is actually the #1 thing that affects your health, more than working out, more than how much you can lift, you can lose or gain weight based on your diet more than anything. Fat crippled boomers probably turn their entire deer into cheeseburgers and tacos. I think its a cheat code if you're in the fitness community. You can basically get 40-80lbs of free lean red meat and not have to feel guilty about eating ground beef in a cut since its actually just ground venison.

Three ounces of lean beef contain, 247 calories and 15 grams of total fat. Three ounces of venison contain 134 calories and only 3 grams of total fat.

This still has nothing to do with fitness, you can buy venison and eat it, but you didnt make this thread about health benefits of venison or wild game, you made it about hunting which is entirely unrelated to fitness for reasons already explained.

Furthermore, unless you are poaching deer meat is not "free" you have to pay for a hunting license and tag and when you add up that and the equipment and time it's generally more expensive than just buying the meat.

What about hiking? Its the same thing with a weapon, and you shoot an animal if you see it..

Hunting is basically sitting still and freezing your fingers off.

God, I wish my boyfriend knows how to hunt. He doesn't even know how to change tires though.

I think hunting is good if you can kill the animal without a lot of suffering. Mass meat production is literally hell on earth. The meat also taste so much better.

You have to pay for the tags on a whitetail though right? I live in an area with edible nuisance animals that you can kill for free but it's not a guarantee everywhere.

Tags depend on the animal. For a wild game/hunt/fish combo license and 2 tags it costs about 70$/year in my state. So I guess roughly 35$ per deer and depending on how many fish you catch.

For waterfowl it is a federal law you have to buy a duck stamp, however, I do not waterfowl hunt anymore, too much work for too little meat.

Yes there are animals you can kill 100% with no tag year round scot free like rabbits and squirrells. I eat rabbits I shoot out of my garden with my bow and arrow all the time.

The only thing I cannot bring myself to eat is coyote

Hunting is based. Shooting a yearling buck that lost is spots the day before and taking of photo with its tongue hanging out is not.

some days I'm ok with the idea of eating what I hunt, seems noble
some days I cant comprehend the thought of killing a mammal

its weird, I have it in me to hunt I guess but I wasnt raised like that and I always was in a high COL elite environment so I dont have buddies/culture to support this lifestyle as well
