Nope. Got to be doing it from a young age unless your a genetic freak. MMA/Jiu-jitsu is probably the only sport a adult can pick up and even those are mainly filled with people who have wrestled in high school.
>MMA/Jiu-jitsu is probably the only sport a adult can pick up
What the duck are you talking about, this is insane. He has plenty of options for sports. Even shit like basketball or tennis or whatever. There are beach wrestling tournaments in some states. There's powerlifting (for fat morons). There are tons of options. He doesn't have to do a combat sport, and if he did there are other martial arts as well. Shit I wouldn't recommend a newb to something like bjj or MMA in his 20's or after. He will almost 100% get some chronic injuries from bjj especially. Even Thai boxing is safer.
Yeah I mean amateur. I don't have any friends so it seems like a good way to socialize and stay fit. The problem is I'm not athletic at all, how do I git gud as an adult?
I know a ton of people who get into squash. Fairly cheap and if you live some where with a longish winter most city gym facilities will have a few courts.
there are sports for everyone, 70 year old man writtled with arthritis? golf. 30 year old just wanting to have fun with your middle aging gay college frat brothers? tennis. work at a shitty factory and want to make a positive impression on upper management, while also having a fun outlet for whatever? start a company baseball team.
you arent gonna go pro unless you find out you have some insane talent for it, so who cares? do what you think you might enjoy, and what fits your lifestyle. if you want to play football but are a starving skeleton, you dont have to worry about making any cut. just play it and have fun
Pick up/rec league: Yes but this more a social thing than anything else
Competitive club leagues: Yes but you’ll need to actually put in some work to get any game minutes
Semi-Pro: Yes but you need to be in great shape, willing to push yourself, and be able to pick stuff up really quick
Pro: No unless incredible niche sport
What sports? If you try to pick up hockey you’re probably gonna fail unless you’ve been skating a long time.
I'm not sure which sports. I saw what looked like an armature baseball tam at my local park once and it got me thinking about the subject. The problem is that I'm abhorrent at all the sports I've tried throughout my life and I don't know how to get better.
>I don't know how to get better.
lol you get better at playing sports by playing sports. buy a basketball and go to the park, practice shooting and dribbling. if someone asks you to join a game just tell them sure, but let them know you are absolute shit so they know what to expect.
Baseball is decent, not too physically demanding tho, more of a skill based game, so it’ll be tough to catch up to people who have been playing for years.
Assuming you’re IST you’ll have more success with stuff where you can lean on your physicality in the short term and the skills can come with time.
I recommend rugby. The human body craves violent contact and most people in the US only started playing in college, so you’re not as far behind.
I got into cycling at 23 and have competed amateur/semi-pro level. Am 26 now.
It's not hard at all. I wouldn't even so you're at any real disadvantage, if you're younger than 30 you're young, period. You might even have the advantage of not being a dumbass teenager who'll make stupid mistakes.
I never played a sport in my life-
Picked up BJJ at 22- trained casually for 6-7 years maybe once or twice a week-
I did BJJ at an armature school and would just ruin people there one day I decided to challenge myself and go to a very tough competitive school I had heard about. I held my own/ beat most of the successful competitors there.
Last roll I went with the gym owner/ head instructor who is a multiple time world champion, he beat me pretty damn good but I gave him a very good fight for a guy who trained super casually.
He was impressed and told me I had a ton of potential which got me really excited, I decided to leave my novice school and train under him.
I did this when I was 29 and now at 30 I technically became a professional grappler training 6 days a week before and after work. I think I have a very good chance at winning a world title this year.
So to answer your question yes its possible because I did it.
get into a combat sport for fitness and self defense. i don't expect to go pro but i'm taking muay thai right now. i suck but i've only been doing it for a few months, two days or so out of the week. it's fun i get to punch and kick and if someone gets out of hand i'm at this point more capable than i would say 40% of the average population. just do it
I'm doing basketball since the beginning of the year and it's going poorly. Very limited opportunities to improve compared to what's being offered to the youth.
I'm kind of bitter because it turns out I ended up being pretty good at soccer and I found this out when joining an adult rec team, but I chose to play football in high school because it was the "cool" sport even though I sucked at it
It's not the same but no one is stopping you from doing it now.
Nope. Got to be doing it from a young age unless your a genetic freak. MMA/Jiu-jitsu is probably the only sport a adult can pick up and even those are mainly filled with people who have wrestled in high school.

>Powerlifting
There's no money to be made there. No one wants to watch powerlifting, it's like pickleball.
You are an IDIOT doomer
>Starting anything after preschool
It’s so over.
My mom started XC skiing in her late 60s. I seriously feel bad for you if you struggle so much with sports that you believe this.
>get into sports
what do you mean? join an amateur/pickup league for a sport? yes. go semi-pro, no.
it's like none of you guys have seen invincible starring mark wahlberg
Yeah I mean amateur. I don't have any friends so it seems like a good way to socialize and stay fit. The problem is I'm not athletic at all, how do I git gud as an adult?
same as everything
you git gud by starting
Get a regular job. Most of these athletes go broke and their careers don't last long.
I'm not talking about going pro or anything like that, I just thought it would be something cool to do on the weekend.
Anyone can go amateur.
I know a ton of people who get into squash. Fairly cheap and if you live some where with a longish winter most city gym facilities will have a few courts.
Actual geek lmao
Nah not him but shit like that is pretty normal in professional circles. That and golf.
yes, I have gotten into competitive table tennis very much so in the past year and a half
Sure, but you won't be good unless you both have Chad Genes and put in Chad Effort.
Sure you can, but don't plan on competing at any professional level, those guys practice since they're 4 yos

No. It is simply not possible.
It's Over?
...vast majority of people, actually, anon.

I really wish I could play amateur (American) football now but I'm 26 and I don't know how I would even find a team for adults who never played.
rugby, RUGBY, instant friend group, they play alongside women's teams who are filled with jacked lesbos and chubby broads who both put out with dudes.

Yeah, of all the sports I play as an adult, I only did one as a child.
I'm doing basketball since the beginning of the year and it's going poorly. Very limited opportunities to improve compared to what's being offered to the youth.
