Someone in my close family is getting the procedure done (Contoura Vision LASIK corrective surgery) to be exact.
I want to make sure it is safe and effect. Thanks.

it is, I was blind as a mole twenty years ago and my sight is still great after the surgery and the years
damn 2 completely opposite answers
if you get lasik you can never do any contact sports ever again
the flap they create will never heal. so any kind of hit can open it back up
there are tons of ''normal'' side effects that the israelites running this scam will convince you will disappear with time (they wont)
>oh yes its a great operation, I can see perfectly, well I cant drive at night anymore and I have to apply this expensive cream to my eyes every day till the day I die, and during the night my eyes feel like sandpaper is being rubbed on them constantly, but hey I can see great
watch this, whatever he's got isnt rare when it comes to this surgery
this is worrying.
The family member is -5 myopic.
Interesting results, but will need more opinions on this.
it sounds like this guy had questions about lasik that weren't adequately answered and did it anyway
so basically he's a fricking idiot, an outlier, and is now trying to say that lasik as a whole is a bad idea
LASIK = permanent flap in eye that never heals, sure to get night halos
Ain't rocket science
>sure to get night halos
i am
and i dont get halos. doc also said halos are extremely rare
i feel like people are hating on lasik this year harder than normal, maybe just noticing since i had it done. regret rates are around 3% and servere effects like that guy's around 0.3%
oh and the israelites didnt invent lasik, some muslim iranian did
ok but this is the first I'm hearing about the eye flaps never healing... this is concerning
heres your flap study bro
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16209440/
basically its 2.4% to 28.1% as strong as it use to be, thats how reopening a lasik flap is super easy for eye doctors to do if you want a touch up
people hate on lasik because of 2 reasons
1. the flap, it never fully heals, and it is possible for it to open , most notably during car accidents or high g events
2. you can never wear contacts again, so in the event your eye sight deteriorates (which happens to everyone in old age) your stuck with glasses
generally lasik is cheap , and effective , but it is objectively worse than prk or ICLs
prk takes longer to heal ,but leaves you with the ability to wear contacts and a lower risk of halos,
icls are lens implants , expensive , but probably the best option ,since its reversible, and can produce better than 20/20 vision,
there also SMILE, a variant of lasik, which doesnt leave a flap, but doesnt have as long of a history.
>, expensive ,
its 4k or 5k per eye.
So around 10k for perfect vision, thats a great deal.
lasik can be found for less than half that , so icls are expensive by comparison. though personally the peace lf mind is probably worth it., also forgot to mention the healing process is shorter and less painful too., no risk of dry eyes ect.
You're always going to get schizo answers here, unironically go to Reddit and read the reports there because unlike IST they're normal people.
i just got lasik in my left, prk in my right
they told me prk would be better after a month or two, they lied
my lasik eye was about 80% recovered the next day, just had to put drops in for a week- it was very worth it
my prk eye was complete shit for a month, drops for a month that tasted like SHIT (they drain into your throat) idk how anyone could do double prk and just walk around blind for a month
the kicker is my lasik eye is better than my prk eye 6 months later. shoulda got double lasik but still very glad i did it, wish i did sooner
get PRK if you want to ''fix'' your vision
stick to contacts if at all possible
lasik is a scam and WILL frick you up, you're just gambling to what level you get fricked up
There are risks and rewards with any optional surgery, How well can you see now without corrective lenses? If you can still drive and do everything for your job and day-to-day life without glasses, it's probably not worth the risk. If without your lenses you're effectively blind, then go for it.
I'm literally the ONLY guy ITT who could get that girl irl. Most of you social morons couldn't even string together a sentence without stuttering after every word. I'M the alpha male, I'M the one in charge. Come talk to me when I'm talking to her? I'd publicly embarrass you the second you interrupted my conversation. In fact most of you would probably come into our circle and just stand there, taking down "PUA" tips in that notebook you morons carry around with you. If you decided to speak (aka ask "how do you do it bro?") I'd not only shove you back (I'm 6ft 210 btw, you'd fall to the ground) I'd give you a lesson on manners simultaneously displaying alpha behavior to this girl. Boom. 2 birds with one stone. In fact it would probably go better if you did interrupt our conversation
Black person copy pasta facts:
You re short.
You have narrow shoulders
You are fat
You dont look good but hey at least your fat
You re addicted to this imageboard
You have no social life
You are bald
I had SMILE 2 years, 10 days and 8 hours ago. I had - 6 and astigmatism. And I highly recommended it. SMILE is less invasive than LASIK (no flap) and cost me only about $200 more than LASIK. I had this procedure in Poland btw.
I took eye drops for half a year (for dry eyes).
Do not get LASIK, it is a money making scam. One of the noted adverse effects is suicide because recovery is so painful.
The vast majority of ophthalmologists wear spectacles- must tell you all you need to know.
it was nearly painless. i was actually shocked because the discomfort was just watering for two days. the worst part was the cold water jets during surgery. prk.
no, the whole point is irreversibly damaging the eye *in a convenient way*. it never heals fully, there are scars. your vision usually worsens eventually, maybe presbyopia in your 50s like usual, maybe earlier. the best contact lenses can be worned uninterrupted for up to a month.
my dad got LASIK over 15 years ago and says his long distance vision is still perfect. his close range vision is worsening, but that happens to all older people. he never got night halo effect.
and wearing contacts for a month? frick that. I can stand to wear contacts all day. I wear glasses now but am interested in the lasik eye surgery.
Your wrong in almost every statement here
>irreversibly damaging the eye *in a convenient way*
You're reshaping the cornea to fit the size of your eye better. It's more like getting your appendix removed when it becomes bothersome.
>never heals fully, there are scars
Less than 1% of people get halos at night and unless you're doing MMA taking punching to the eye directly, the flap isn't reopening.
>your vision usually worsens eventually
About 10% of patients may need a LASIK enhancement after 10 years. About 20% find they need a LASIK enhancement after 20 years.
> the best contact lenses can be worned uninterrupted for up to a month
Every single eye doctor in the USA would say a contact you take out while asleep is safer than ones they say you can sleep in.
I have no fricking idea how anyone can wear a contact uninterrupted for weeks at a time. I wore contacts that were "approved for overnight wear" and only ever wore them overnight once and my eyes get so try even blinking can dislodge them.
it literally takes 10 seconds to put in contacts in the morning and 5 to take them out before sleep
im not risking halos, dry eyes and other bullshit
>it literally takes 10 seconds to put in contacts in the morning
it takes me 10 minutes to put one of those frickers on, how do you people do it?
>Rinse hands
>Place contact on right index finger
>Peel upper eyelid up with left hand fingers
>Peel lower eyelid down with pinky thru middle right fingers
>Vigorously jam index finger into eye (just gently press it on/about center pupil
>Blink a few times
>Repeat for other eye
Works on my machine.
this but I look up when putting it in then close my eyes and look down to grab it
or I did, before surgery which was 100% worth it lmfao imagine wearing contacts
I got contoura, it was GOAT better than 20/20 vision (20/15 for me) for like 6 months. Now it's super variable at 2 years and even being out in low light conditions like late evening makes it really hard to read text off of, say, an ice cream shop sign. Overall my vision is still way better than before and I don't need glasses, but it's kind of a shame I don't have eagle eye vision anymore, unless maybe it's super bright out
My MD told me he would literally kick my ass if i got lasik.
Permanent dry eyes is the major side effect, every person i know puts drops in constantly.
I got contoura haven't needed drops after the first month, ymmv
i didnt even have to use drops after a week, i just did because he told me to. five years from now i wont even remember i ever wore glasses.
>got lasik in 2019
>smell of burning eye was gross
>veryt squeamish about eyes
>afterward do a brief eye exam then they're ready to see me off
>fainted in the waiting room on my way out
>had 6 nurses walk me to my car
>one of my friends got it last year
>same clinic as he asked for a recommendation
>they're still talking about ISTanon that fainted in the waiting room postop
I made it bros...
I got PRK and it has been nothing but amazing. Got my surgery from the dude that proved the concept to NASA and does all the astronauts.
i had prk done by the best eye surgeon in dallas (he has done experimental eye transplants) and am 20/20 now. really only three days where i could barely see and now its razor sharp. everything is brighter though.
he told me contoura was pointless unless your eyes are jacked up. i just had simple myopia and very thick sclera. best 6000 i ever spent.
I got it like 13 years ago
Still fine
Not 20/20 though but w/e might be my fault
The plastic in contacts turns you gay over time, would you rather be gay but see or have LASIK but kys?
lasik is incredible and naysayers are homosexuals
My uncle had lasik and something went wrong. It was a worst case scenario type of thing, he had to quit work because he sees a constant fog now. Dont let this post shape your opinion but realize its not 100% safe.
I have keratoconus and I don't even think I'm a candidate for LASIK surgeries.
Doing collagen crosslinking at some point soon (hopefully), homosexual optho needs to get back to me. I heard it's painful (after the procedure) but hoping to do the epi-on version.
I'm 32 and they think it's strange there's been progression seen over 3 months still, so I became a surgery candidate.
i got lasik a few years ago and i’ve been great since, the recovery is very easy
