      they look okay but in no way is looking like that worth regular weight training, except for the 1 year guy. the 1 year guy is the only one who has gotten a proportional reward for the work put in.

      that said, the 7 year guy clearly has not been isolating arms or delts, seems to hyperfocus on his chest while neglecting everything else. I think he got what he worked for, a big chest.
      the 5 year guy is too fat to judge. he may actually look good under all that, but not as big as one would hope after 5 years.
      the 14 years guy has fricked up posture and bone structure. I actually recognize some of my own problems like wide hips asymmetrical torso. even taking that into account he looks barely better than I do and I've been half-assing it with no gym for 1.5 years. my chest is already better than his. another case where I simply don't believe he's put in the work he says he did, just like the 7 year guy. except he has a genetic disadvantage whereas 7 year guy really has zero excuses, he's got the potential and just slacks off / trains wrong.

      one thing they ALL have in common is underdeveloped lats. probably fell for the "deadlifts build lats" meme.

To me, it speaks to someone’s vanity and ultimately says a lot about their insecurities. I also lift because of insecurities and vanity but I don’t think it’s a good look to take it to such an extreme. Roiders are stereotypically low-class and poor. I have a white collar job and lift and feel too big when I’m in the office at 5’10” 184lbs with abs. Going to lose 10 lbs and get back into running.

        Same dude. I did weighted pull-ups with +45 lbs for 6 sets x 5 reps today. Natty gains are fine. Only been working out a couple of years and I’m older. I understand being a pussy and not wanting to put the work in and cheating, and honestly I’d love to cheat to get the physique I ultimately want but I’m unwilling to frick with my hormones.             Well I pretty much disagree with everything you are saying but it doesn’t matter. I work out and run 40 miles a week because I feel a sense of emptiness inside me that I can’t really articulate. I think various things will make me happy and they do for a short while but then I’m back to realizing that I could be doing so much more. So exercising myself into the ground helps with that. In another 3 years my anxiety will have turned my physique into something incredible.

            This is 100% false and a ridiculous thing to say. Most natty gains from baseline are permanent.until you get really old. After weeks or months of not training yes obviously it will fall back a bit.

            It's in fact the exact opposite - the roider will not only return to his initial, he will be smaller than he has ever been, because he will have permanently destroyed his own testosterone production.

                im not gonna show because i will never post a picture of myself simple as. but i have 17 inch arms and i started out as 53kg in the gym. now i will admit i didnt measure my arms then but for a 53kg twink i wouldn't imagine they were bigger than 12 inches.

                I have trained for 13 years and I have gained around +20kg lean muscle mass.

    No. Those are just pictures of what an average guy with an average frame and average muscle building genetics looks like. You get most of your gains during the first few years and then. Most people will get that or only slightly better than that and it's perfectly fine. What's the point of roiding if you're just lifting for looks and health? The roids are not going to fix your frame or your genetics and, unless you're an athlete or bodybuilder, you're not competing for anything so you don't need a competitive advantage. Even if you wanted to be a body builder, unless you have the genes that let you put on 50 lbs of muscle just from looking at weights and having the ideal genes for androgen receptors, you'll lose every contest. You consider all the people at the gym who go on a cycle and look the same in spite of that cycle because they either didn't take enough, they didn't have the genes for maximal response to roids, or both.The roids would be a waste of money at that point and it would be better to just focus on making sure your exercise is sufficient to ensure you maximize naturally attainable muscle mass and maintaining it for the maximum fitness benefits, eating healthy, and not worry about comparing yourself to other people.

    I get the feeling that forums in general greatly underestimate 2 things (which also interact with each other)

    - 1) the ability to understand correctly what you need to do to succeed in lifting (you can think for months or even years that you're training well, that your form is good, all of this with information gathered beforehand, when in fact you're not)

    - 2) the influence of genetics (which, if it's good, can help you make progress even if point 1) isn't perfect)

    I think that as long as forums continue to promote the idea that "lifting's easy" (so point 1) isn't really a point) and that "yes, genetics count, but the differences aren't that large" (so point 2) isn't really a point either), we won't understand the disparities in results we see from anons posting theirs.

    To me, when someone posts their progress on the Internet, it's already a sign that they're more invested than the average yokel who pays for a monthly gym pass and doesn't go to the gym, and who doesn't get any information at all. Why assume that people who don't achieve incredible results are necessarily ALL to blame? Do you also presuppose that all those who have great results are doing everything right?
