It burns a frick-ton of calories if you are doing an appropriate amount of time n work, so yes

Use to do it 10mn before each workout. Nice for cardio and calves (which has been said). Also, it's quite satisfying to jump double or "cross" jump when you master it. Keep it up

No because you can’t get more than 5 jumps without tripping over the rope

    >builds endurance
    >builds coordination
    >builds thick calves
    >builds good wrists if you have a heavier speed rope
    >most calories burned a minute compared to the relative effort
    >can be done pretty much everywhere with a high ceiling or outside
    >the only requirement is not being a 40 bmi lardgalaxy because it will frick up your knees
    There really is no excuse

I was hardcore into it for a while. Learned a lot of the tricks and got pretty good for my size- 6’4. I feel like it perhaps unsurprisingly was hugely beneficial for coordination and footwork and even speed. A year later most of those benefits have stayed. Solid cardio too. I put too much impact on my knees though doing insanity- plyometrics as cardio is fricking stupid never do this- so eventually my knees started to hurt this I stopped. Otherwise I’d still be doing it

this is why im reluctant to jump rope. have you tried using knee sleeves or something like that?

I’m 250lbs and I jump rope all the time. If your knees start to hurt just stop. I’ve been doing it since I was in middle school though (am tall, did it for basketball)

    Yeah
Just slow jogging around your home can increase your heart rate and help you lose body fat (my case).
Jumping rope is even more effective

Yes I skip for 15 min before every workout. Occasionally will do 30 min straight for cardio. Less joint wear and tear than running and will get a better sweat in as well. I tend to go at a fast pace at 2 skips per second.

that's pretty impressive. how did you work your way up to that intensity? how long could you go when you first started?

        Anonymous

Could do a few minutes when I first started and couldn’t do more than 30 seconds straight. Eventually worked up to 5 min, then 10.

why is this so cardio intense?
i bike a frick ton and im at 5 w/kg and can hold 180 bpm for over an hour easy and skipping rope really elevates the hr like crazy

The whole body weight being bounced up and down by the calves combined with the strain in the arms from continuous whipping is surprisingly challenging to do for a longer period of time
