No, you inhale smoke. Smoke doesn't belong in a lung.
    >Never held a cigarette in my hand.
Good. Did you ever stand beside a fire and had the wind turn the smoke in your direction? Did you notice that poeple avoid this smoke and come home saying >all my clothes smell like smoke. Cirgarette smoke is the same. Avoid it.

He is right though. The benefit of smoking is the alertness from nicotine but one cigarette contains about 1mg of absorbable nicotine. If you want nicotine the chew nicotine gum, you can get 2mg per piece, tastes alright, you get jaw gains, avoid all negatives of smoking, and consume a proven safe stimulant.

Seriously smoking is moronic now that nicotine gum is so easy to get and so cheap.

There's a theory that men were more manly and society had more traditional values and people were smarter in general in past decades (before the lead gasoline exposure to boomers) because tobacco smoking was more common among men and women and it boosted testosterone which promotes intelligence and masculine personality traits and virtues.

Nicotine itself has neurological benefits, such as heightened awareness and better short-term memory. Downside is addiction.
You might think you look cool smoking, because cool guys look cooler when they smoke, but smoking just makes most guys look trashier. The health downsides of smoking outweigh anything positive. Erectile dysfunction is common with smokers. I quit smoking 10 years ago and don't regret it at all.

I bought a pack to smoke on a day I seriously thought about killing myself once. Was always sorta curious and felt a bit of a weird pleasure doing it by my window sill. Maybe because I was a spaz and doing something naughty. The act itself didn't really do much for me aside from that. Was surprised by how little it affected me. I was like, "that's it? That's what people spend hundreds of bucks a month on?" Seemed silly. Smoked half that day and half the next. Aside from a few cigars I got at weddings over the years, I never smoked again

Depends how addiction resistant you are
If you can smoke 1 a day, not a big deal
If you smoke a pack a day for 10 years... it's over

Although I would personally recommend the occasional cigar over daily cigarettes, as some cigarettes have some very unhealthy filler in them.

  13. 6 months ago
    Anonymous

I had my first cigarette at 13. Started smoking daily at 15. Stopped smoking daily at 28. I still do smoke on occasion, but I can happily go months without smoking. Now I only smoke on special occasions. I am horrendously addicted to nicotine still tho. Vapes and zyns are essential groceries.

You probably should not start smoking. That said, I could never fully trust a man who can’t enjoy the occasional cigarette. Cigarettes have many social benefits, but they nuke your health. If I knew what I know today, I never would have started.

The big one for me is that they destroy your teeth. Not just by making them yellow af, but they also cause decay. I will need veneers. I have a girl, but if I was single, my teeth alone would be nuking my SMV.

The main reason I switched to vaping/zyn is the cardio. It was actually very difficult to frick well when I was smoking.

Smoking is also expensive. A pack of cigs costs on average $15. It takes a few years to get fully addicted, but in time it will certainly happen, and you’ll need about $450 per month devoted to your smoking habit.

Be able to smoke a cig without being a daily smoker. That’s peak cool.

      >I could never fully trust a man who can’t enjoy the occasional cigarette
i feel the opposite. cigarettes are for women and children (cf major/majorette, bachelor/bachelorette, wagon/wagonette). putting that tiny white stick between your lips just looks effeminate. smoke a cigar or a pipe like a real man.

I go through a pack of sobranie black russian a day for about a year now. It's not even a flex it's just that they are much smoother and easier on the throat/lungs than any of the cheaper options.

I go to sleep every night breathing heavily telling myself from tomorrow no more. But the moment I sit in my car my first stop is the gas station where I buy 20 bucks of fuel and a pack of cigarettes. I swear if you could buy a pack of like 5 cigs there'd be much less active smokers out there but obviously cig manufacturers don't want that. Anyhow don't start smoking, maybe steal a cig or two from someone if you need one in social situations and buy them a pack later to say thanks.

I keep thinking about that, it's impossible that these megacorporations haven't done their research and determined that a 20 pack is the most optimal amount of cigs to keep the user as hooked as they can be. The 10 pack ban is just virtue signalling by the politicians to make it seem like they are doing something to stop kids from smoking. I'm yet to hear of someone who was deterred from buying a pack because it had too many cigs in it

          Anonymous

I believe it wasn't the amount of cigs but the price. back then you could get a small pack for 2e, a nice round sum and a single coin any kid can get their hands on from their allowance and they wanted to make buying that pack just that little much harder.

As a former smoker just don't start any nicotine.
I was older than you when I started and only smoked for a few years but near the end I could definitely feel the effects.
First it started with having a smoke or two while out drinking. Then I discovered I could get an actual break in the smoke pit and not have some asshat sergeant grab me for stupid shit. I started smoking more to spend time with the female at my unit and not be called out for fraternization. Then we started living together and I smoked even more.
I was in great shape when I started and in even better shape when I stopped. But every morning I was coughing up nasty shit and I knew I smelled bad. Best decisions I ever made were to quit smoking and get divorced

    I used to smoke a lot (like 5-10 a day) in my early 20s, quit for about 5 years, then started to occasionally light up once a week or so. I’m late 30s, here is my experience;
    >is it worth it?
Not really, I haven’t noticed a benefit except brief stress relief. You’re better off just using nicotine gum, snus, or something not cured (curing and smoking is where the carcinogenic properties come from) if you’re after the nicotine. Nicotine is an awesome drug, like caffeine, but with a terrible delivery mechanism.
    >will it wreck you?
I don’t think so. But I don’t think it helps.
I was running a 16 min 3 mile, 1:26 half marathon, and repping 225 on bench/315 on squat when I was smoking fairly heavily and drinking daily. You get a crazy buzz if you shotgun a beer and puff a smoke right after running a 16-18 min 3 mile.
I will say that now that I’m older I can definitely feel alcohol and cigarettes more, and I wish I never smoked.
    >will I get cancer?
    It greatly increases the risk.
    >will it raise my test?
I doubt it, but if it does you can refer to the above section “is it worth it?” and reference the safer non carcinogenic sources of nicotine.
I did read a study that occasional pipe smokers (3 or less times a week) that don’t inhale are actually at a reduced risk of cancer vs non smokers, but inhalers or more frequent non inhale smokers are at a much higher risk. Dunno if that means anything.
This is my opinion as someone who has smoked and enjoys smoking; it’s better not to smoke, but if you must try nicotine use a non carcinogenic mechanism.

What do u think my odds are of just using nicotine patches and not getting hopelessly addicted are?

        Anonymous

I dunno, nicotine itself was never really addicting to me. It’s not that I couldn’t stop, it’s that I didn’t want to and it was a way to kill time as a milgay.
Currently I smoke once a week or so because a coworker smokes and gives me a cig if I ask, but the actual desire isn’t really there and it’s just a way to cope with a stressful day for a couple minutes, which I don’t really notice any real negative from.
The real issue I have is alcohol. I have gone 6 months without drinking but alcohol is like a demon that’s got it’s claws in me.
So I’d say 50/50, nicotine isn’t really addictive to some people, the same way alcohol isn’t to some people.
if you’re concerned you may be better off never starting, take it from me, you don’t want an addiction and alcohol nearly ruined my life.

      >Nicotine is an awesome drug, like caffeine, but with a terrible delivery mechanism.
Well said. NRT products are where it's at.

I'm 36, started smoking at 21. I'd give anything to go back and have never touched a cigarette. Take that for what you will.

Not worth it, trust me. When you realise you want to quit, you wont be able to for months, sometimes years. You'll just keep trying to quit and you just accept that you're going to get cancer.

major test boost, almost like taking steroids tier. great nootropics aside from just nicotine. destroys your lungs and oxygen uptake and gives you cancer. the safest way to use tobacco is cigars and pipes and you are 30 times less likely to get cancer using cigars/pipes than if you used cigarettes, but there is still the risk. also cigars and pipes are less damaging to your lungs but I don't know how much exactly.

    Are cigars better than cigarettes?
As far as I understand you don't inhale the cigar smoke and you smoke them on special occasions.

I stopped in February. Gained weight and developed rosacea and chronic diarrhea. Which CAN happen, but nobody tells you that, ofc.

Too expensive for me now, though, I miss it. Nicotine has some cool effect, but no effects without side effects. In normal times, people would trust you with your own body, but the nanny state today wants a say in what you smoke. Cest la vie.
