Yes. Ignore powershitter memes about muh "I can lift heavier though" lean composition is a primal indicator of fitness

I've been as low as 6%. You look pretty fucking skinny under 10. I'd say that's the sweet spot. Depends on your muscle mass. If you're muscular you can get away with lower. But once you start getting to the point where there's waistband spill and stomach rolls it's fucking over and I'd say that starts happening around 15%

See that diverse model on the top right? I mean the left, darker guy. Women will find that fine too. You don't need to look like the other leaner models. But you should at least strive for that look. The fat guy on the right is definetely too much.

No. You have to be taller than 6 foot 2 to get any benefit from being lean, and even then you will be at a lesser level than puffed up rugby physique mode. You will essentially have to be so naturally tall that you're unable to actually look good through lifting and thus cope by getting lean.

Don't even try to be lean at less than 5'10. You will only push yourself further into the "perceived as gay" zone of the spectrum.

This happened to me. I went from being super fat 250lbs to super skinny 140lbs and people started treating me differently. People would obviously smirk at me when I was fat and disgusting but then it's got better and better as I reached the 180 zone. Women became super nice to me, better overall human interactions, etc. I kept cutting because I wanted abs and I've never had them before. Once I finally hit 140 and got them I realized the smirks were back. It went from Fat loser to fag. I have gay thoughts but I repress them. There's no winning anons 🙁

How can I measure body fat percentage?

      Anonymous

Grab a fatty piece on your body.
Pull it out until you can pinch the skin between your index and your thumb.
Is that piece thicker than 1 inch? if so you're above 20% body fat.
This is how calipers measure it and it's fairly accurate.
If you have more than one reading you can take (say love handles and stomach) the more accurate this becomes.
The closer or higher above one inch it is the fatter you are.
The closer it is to just literal skin between your fingers. almost to the point it seems paper thin the skinnier you are.
At some points you're so skinny you can't even pull the skin away from the body to measure it.
My triceps for instance are like this. I pull on the skin and can't even get it between my fingers without seriously pinching.
You want that on the major points.
The thigh, the ass, the stomach, the chest, and the love handles.

        Anonymous

Using my Milwaukee measuring device, my fat pinch is seemingly 2 inches. Stomach and love handles. Might be 1.5 inches. The love handle might be 1 inch if I get a thin grip on it.
I just stepped on my scale for the first time in ages. It read 186 for a second before shutting off (low battery). I'm 6'3".

How does it not make sense.
It's literally how they test for fat and is extremely accurate if you use calipers. You can find the exact measurements online.

            >Sounds like you've got the typical skinny fat body of a novice
You are 100% correct. Also I do not lift. Here is my thread:

            [...]

. At most, I lift this 25lb weight I have my by desk. I lift it until my arms feel good, and I do this whenever I feel like.
I have gained massive gains to my back just by finding the muscles and tensing them. This has improved my posture incredibly. I have had severe computer posture, and it's probably because my back is nonexistant. Just working my back for 15 minutes for one day cures me for a week. I used to have actual swallowing issues. Now, I never choke when drinking. I think this is quite the accomplishment. However, I still have hypopnea when sleeping. I bought a $200 device to measure breath and fingertip O2, this is how I know I have hypopnea. When I'm not actively stretching my frame (like during sleep), it fucks itself, and my breathing becomes very shallow. I have felt like I don't have enough oxygen for the past 4 or so years. I am now living with memory loss. I am just beginning to recover. However, I have been just beginning to recover for about a year or 2. I haven't really tried, because I do nothing all day except stress relief. My most effective breakthrough has been to discover my diaphragm. How, I can actually breathe during the day, and I feel, sometimes, like I am living.

My advice is focus strictly mobility strengthening and cardio.
Seems you got some health problems and posture problems. Serious lifting isn't going to do you any favors. It can actually make breathing problems worse in some lifters.

Do your best, don't fall for any memes. Once you feel better you can always switch to real lifting programs. Until that point you need to focus on actually holding your body correctly.

Sounds like you should do yoga or basic gymnastics (Bodyline exercises, handstands etc.) for starters. You seem to get good gains with isometrics, so do them.
When you have normalized your body you can look at other training methods.

Btw if you want to do this "find muscles and tense them" stuff, look for muscle control courses from the early 20th century. It's basically that.

Building muscles takes far longer than losing fat, if you want "quick" gratification, focus on losing weight, but time is ticking and you're getting older, and it makes more sense to focus on building muscles first and dropping the weight later. If you're working out and eating right you'll drop some weight while building muscle, but you won't lose fat

You can and it’s not that difficult, it only takes dedication and persistence. Do intermittent fasting, restrict you caloric intake to eat just a little less than what your body needs, but enough protein and combine lifting with light cardio. The heart rate at which you burn fat is relatively low and can easily be achieved by brisk walking. 3 hours of walking every week at a firm pace, intermittent fasting and 3 times in the gym for lifting should get you proper results within 3-12 months, depending on you starting point

If you are fat you can gain muscle and lose fat. You simply train and eat. Your body will burn fat and will need to put some muscle for your training intensity.

You can and it’s not that difficult, it only takes dedication and persistence. Do intermittent fasting, restrict you caloric intake to eat just a little less than what your body needs, but enough protein and combine lifting with light cardio. It also works without intermittent fasting and cardio. If you are fat, just lifting is the easiest way to lose fat through sports. You simply have to watch how much you eat, so yes, lots of protein, so that your body can build muscle, while you lose fat.

There is a limit. It's individual. But you will look better as a man when you are below 15%. That should be your minimum goal. Some may get away with 18%, depending on your fat deposition genetics (especially in the face). Below 12% shouldn't be necessary. These are absolut realistic standards, not overblown /fit fag, roidchud bullshit.

          >no screens
          >no hyperpalatable food
Some people will say to eat blandly but I think that's probably too far. Just cutting out sweets, restaurant food, and junkfood will get you like 95% of the way there along as what you cook at home is healthy.
          >seriously consider not streaming music
Some people say no music at all but if you have it on a physical medium that should probably be fine. The important thing is that you only have it on a little bit instead of listening every free moment. Being limited to a disc or record will force you to cut down as a matter of course
          >do a bunch of reading
          >consider meditation, about 10-20min a day
          >make absolutely sure you're getting good sleep
          >get some sun if you can. It's good for you
          >cut stims like caffeine
High dopamine tolerance/low baseline dopamine level can fuck with your ability to start/stop tasks and lead to ADHD-like symptoms. Places like IST where you can get stuck doomscrolling are especially bad for that kind of thing so being here isnt doing you any favors.

Yeah. I actually had a good period of several weeks where I got away from IST. Still fucked around with streaming shit "in the background" at work, but mood was markedly better.
I've been trying to make the foods that hit my macros better, but trying to maintain more philosophy around it
            >no grains
            >no added sugars
            >no seed oils
But maybe I can lighten up a bit, incorporate rice again and have sauces I make or are more intelligent about using? Perhaps letting go of too strict of dogmas and making foods I'll want to actually eat day to day.
I like to cook. I make damn good foods when I am flexible. But I've pigeonholed myself into this corner where I'm so strict to meet high goals that I can't succeed.

For oils; coconut, avocado, olive oil, and butter/ghee will get you pretty much everywhere. You might also consider rendering fat out of meat if you have the time (or some quality bacon to fry up).

I've never really encountered bad health effects from grains, but white flour and white rice are something I try to avoid since they're pretty nutirtionally void. I use as much whole wheat flour as I can get away with and stick with brown/wild rice and similar.

For sugar, I avoid it 90% of the time in my own cooking. I use a bit in my homemade bread as a softener, but otherwise the only sugar I add to anything is usually in the form of local honey for tea or coffee.

Obviously there are exceptions to everything. I don't turn my nose up at my mom's cooking, or when my parents invite me out to dinner. I still get dessert sometimes, or make dessert for family get-togethers that's got a bunch of sugar (stewed apples in cinnamon and brown sugar are always a prize winner). I just keep that shit to a minimum and focus on cooking well for myself otherwise. Keeping things super strict might be what you need if you find yourself slipping into bad habits but 90% of the battle is just getting the right stuff when you're at the grocery store and not bringing home any shit to tempt yourself with.

                Anonymous

Yeah, I already make my own ghee and use that and olive oil for the majority of cooking. I get a lot of protein from pork loins too, so when I have enough trimmings I render lard from it.
When I say added sugar, I mean for shit like sauces -- I make my own teriyaki and barbecue sauces pretty regularly, and tend to use only honey as the sweet element. But that shit can add up quickly so I want to limit that during a cut.
But being super strict and attempting monotonous, but meticulously calculated, meal prep is obviously not working for me, so I may need to rethink shit. It's when I feel down on the food I have made that I tend to go retarded with junk foods to get that fucking dopamine hit.
